About the Game
Rhythm Doctor is a rhythm game in a world where defibrillating patients' hearts in sync with their heartbeats has healing properties. Slam your spacebar in perfect time on the 7th beat, and they might just come out okay. But beware - every patient has unique illnesses based on complex music theory: polyrhythms, hemiolas, irregular time signatures...if you don't know what they mean, don't worry. Rhythm Doctor is designed to make you learn music and rhythm theory without even realising it!
- 20+ handmade levels, each with their own story.
- Every level introduces a different concept of rhythm theory in an accessible way
- A large cast of doctors and patients feature in an overarching, character-centric storyline
- Play the story solo or grab a friend for drop-in drop-out local multiplayer throughout the whole campaign!
- Robust level editor to make, share, and play community levels! Use your own music, place notes snapped to the beat, and use 50+ different visual effects and backgrounds
- Challenging "Night Shift" versions of each level for the brave
(Note: 2P mode only works locally. Online 2P via Remote Play is enabled for this game, but it does not work that well right now due to varying latency)
Rhythm Doctor features flashing lights and colors. Please use caution if you have experience with epilepsy or any of its symptoms.

Official update history
Hello interns!
We've got a few things to talk about today, including our crossover with Beatblock and some Rhythm Weightlifter news. Also some new Level Editor additions!

New Level!
You can now find público cautivo from the game Beatblock in the Basement section of Story Mode!
Song by CV35W (John Foong) with voiceover by Spiffy
Level by fancybread
Inspired by a level by azabi
Museum background by CV35W (John Foong)
Also: you can now use the mascot of Beatblock, Cranky, as a character in the Level Editor.
Beatblock is a great new indie rhythm game, with developers that originate from the Rhythm Doctor community! We're even in a bundle with them if you want to receive a discount. Check it out!
Rhythm Weightlifter News
You can now play Rhythm Weightlifter, the polyrhythm-centric minigame from Act 5, as its own standalone game! We've released it on mobile (iOS and Google Play) as a free game. When you beat it, you unlock the new Infinite Mode. Let us know how far you go!
Game Improvements and Changes
The game has been migrated to Unity 6 from an older version. Ideally, this shouldn't change anything for you.
To improve our development workflow, this will be the last version where we will be delivering 32-bit builds for Windows. We’ve observed Steam stats and there seem not to be any more people using 32-bit computers in our userbase.
Rhythm Weightlifter: Added infinite mode, plus many small improvements.
Pause Menu: Item height has been increased for better text legibility in certain languages such as Polish and Spanish.
Misc UI improvements.
Level Editor Improvements and Changes
\[Set VFX Preset] Most properties (intensity, color, etc) in the Set VFX Preset can now be disabled, similar to other events. Disabled properties remain unchanged, allowing each property to be eased individually
\[Set VFX Preset] Most presets now start at 0% intensity instead of 100%. This means that enabling an event and easing it to 120% will ease from 0-120 instead of 100-120. Old levels using this behaviour will automatically have the oldVFXEasing mod added. Values are automatically reset to 0% every time the VFX preset is disabled
\[Set VFX Preset] Added a VFX preset for the eyes from 6-X, along with various custom methods for finer control (search "eyes" in the Call Custom Method event.)
\[Set VFX Preset] Added more properties to the Drawing and Radial Blur VFX presets
"Skip paint effects" is now enabled by defualt for the Set Theme event
Added "Run random event from tag" option o the Tag Action event
Set Game Sound has been migrated to the new event system (meaning it had major internal changes). Functionality should be unchanged but it's worth testing
Internal changes to Set Counting Sound and how sounds are loaded in general
Fixed being unable to disable certain corners in the Set Room Perspective event
Added default beatsounds for characters that were missing them
That's it for now. Thanks for playing!

First of all: a huge thank-you to all of you for the support and kind words we've received since our 1.0 launch! It's been great, and surreal, to see everyone's reactions to the end of the story and the very ambitious final boss that we worked on for a long while.
As you might imagine, most people on the team have been taking a well-deserved rest and getting back to work at their own pace. Aside from some quick bug fixes, we haven't really made any big changes to talk about.
Although we're done making Acts of Story Mode, there are still some standalone levels that we're working on. One of them is a collaboration with Beatblock, which we recently posted a teaser of.
Today's update includes a new Accessibility setting, various fixes to Story Mode, and a bunch of new options in the Level Editor. We look forward to supporting Rhythm Doctor bit by bit throughout the year with smaller updates like this!
New Accessibility Setting: Reduced Flashing
In this patch, we've added a Reduced Flashing setting in the Accessibility menu. It weakens and reduces the amount of flashy effects across Story Mode, like full-screen white flashes. This will hopefully make the game much more comfortable to play for players with photosensitivity.
To be clear: this setting reduces many instances that may cause eyestrain but does not remove every effect that may cause eyestrain entirely. If you've played the game, you'll know how intertwined some of the effects are to the overall experience and concept of some of the levels. Our goal is to reduce overall eyestrain while still retaining animations and distractions in the levels, so that users of the setting don't get a lesser experience. Players who struggle with epilepsy should still exercise caution while playing the game.
As with all of our Accessibility efforts, this will be an ongoing project and an ongoing conversation. If you try the setting, please send us feedback on what you think about it. You can let us know what you think on our official Discord server or by sending an email to [email protected] with "accessibility" in the subject line. We would love to know what you think of the toggle and if any levels are still causing discomfort for you.
We are still discussing a strategy for making the "window dance" levels cause less eyestrain, which might require a more thorough reworking of those levels and a separate toggle.
You may be wondering if the Reduced Flashing setting affects Custom Levels made by the community. It does, but only if the creator of the custom level you're playing has properly tagged the events that cause eyestrain in their level. Because the feature is brand new, this will likely be a small minority of custom levels at first. Please keep that in mind if you decide to try custom levels while using this setting. We encourage all custom level creators to apply these tags to their levels, in order to make them more accessible.
