About the Game
STANDBOX is about that urge that you might have had as a kid, when you were more interested about the tech-demo than the game advertised. It's an interactive sandbox where you get to bully a smart ragdoll. He can stand, tries to balance himself up, fall and get back-up, and is animated by an approximation of a medical system that includes organs.
You can damage him or play with him, throw him around and more.
What is this game?
The game is built like small-scope sandbox experimentation tool, inspired by video-game tech demos, centered around experimenting the behaviors of Stanley. Stanley can get balance, receive damage, suffer from concussions and brain damage, break bones, try to get back up (and fail if damaged enough), pass-out from bloodloss... There are 3 maps, and a few tools.
What is planned for the future of the game?
I have more ideas for STANDBOX and I hope I can make them happen for the game. That being said, I encourage you to not purchase the game for what it could be but what it is right now. Please only purchase this game if you believe you would be satisfied with a small scope sandbox with a few satisfying behaviors. This is not a huge complex game. This is a very fun physics toy.

Update 1.27.3:
New STANDBOX versions will now include a changelog directly in the menu! Most of the stuff will be shown in there, like this:
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43324293/f9f722adbc367b41e1cb1bf36aa57d9fc1c5088c.png
Added severe brain damage
We now have "severe brain damage", that is essentially quite similar to regular brain damage, but Stanley will never recover from it. It will happen from times to times from bullet wounds to the brain.
Improved bullet wounds
The effect for bullet wounds has been improved to show a fake 3D parallax effect on the inside of the bullet holes.
Halloween removal
Halloween is finally gone. Some of the musics have stayed in some hidden places, but besides that, the maps have left. For now.
New Inventory UI (drag and drop)
New system to change your toolbar! You can now drag and drop from the new inventory menu; which also includes categories and a search bar.
Fix sniper bullet color
Sniper bullet was weirdly glowy and white. No longer!
Attempted Fix for low FPS wobble
We're trying an experimental workaround to help players with very low-fps. It should improve stability a bit under low fps (<40fps) so that Stanley doesn't oscillate and wobble and fall on his own after a while.
Not listed, also a fix for the grenade bug (only in the playtest) and an issue where Stanley wouldn't wake up after being knocked-out.
STANDBOX SDK:
STANDBOX SDK has been added to all the STBX owners on Steam! You no longer need to request specific access to it. You WILL need to have Unreal Engine 5.1 installed to be able to do anything with it though, so do keep that in mind.
Regarding the Workshop, it is currently under open-playtest. To join it, you will have to join the STBX BETA group on Steam, and add the "-modding" launch option to STBX from the Steam launch options.
The reason why we're keeping it under limited access is to finish filling it up a bit but also to make sure there's no issue we missed before we make a big announcement to release it. You're welcome to come check it out if you don't want to wait though!
Changelogs for 1.24.4:
-Stumbling
-Bracing for falls
-Stanley can grab ledges and objects
-Old Pit map is back
-Devmap added per community request
-Grenade explosion redone+sound
-inventory/hotbar improved
-standing back up fixed a bit
-blood decals used in areas where blood didn't appear before (and on the new map)
Experimental:
-adding jugular hit dizziness for testing
-adding balance affected by how much the head is damaged for testing
Known issues:
-The stumbling can lead to some sliding!
-On Devmap and Old Pit, the blood doesn't stay forever.
My apologies for the inconvenience! Achievements should not be reset again in the future.
Here's the full list of changes:
- Physics change
- Stanley can now die from head trauma (single very powerful, or repeated over time)
- Fix for the blood loss speed
- Fix for inconsistent blood size (TheRoom boxes and the bottom of TheBunker)
- Fix for missing limp and tetraplegia behaviors (got broken with the physics change in 1.021)
Stanley should now be more reactive, easier to kill from blunt impact, and lose blood at proper speed. I expect their might be some other issues popping up due to the physics change, but those will get fixed as they get reported!
Have fun.
-Foot shark FIXED!!!!-better blood splatters in slow motion (used to be broken)
-altered foot damping
-slightly changed physics
-game now has a "music manager", for now he only manages the slow motion but building block for later
-Ripped off the eyes of the 3D model
-Camera smoothing
Very small update, mostly to fix the issue where people couldn't save their settings properly. Now it should save properly, and two new features to go along:
The long awaited decapitation
The ability to set a chance that a blood droplet doesn't create a decal on the walls/floors to save some performance. So you could have it that only 20% of the blood droplets make a decal per example.
0.22.1:
changes:
-blood is now non-reflective in low graphics to save some perfs
fixes:
-everything should save properly
new features:
-decapitation
-new preset variable ChanceToCanvasBloodFX (0->1, % of chance to make a blood decal)
Contents for 0.21:
fixes:
-fix for brick colliding with the glass panel feature
-fix tone inconsistency for The Room with off global illumination
-fix tone inconsistency and overall ugliness in The Spinning Room
-fix for sliding (i hate it please never look at my code)
-fix for a dismemberment bug
changes:
-adjusted cardboard boxes colors to better fit the level
-changed lighting in the Pit because everybody complained it was too dark
-internals for the wound system redone
-because of the wound system redo, fractures should be more obvious now
-big retuning of the balance system, should be more enjoyable now
new features:
-new decal for open-bruise
-new organ: spine
-new wounds: paraplegia and tetraplegia
-new system for landing on his feet, increased chances of saves during falls
On top of the previous known issue, the new balancing will reintroduce some sliding. This will be fixed later.
