About the Game
Rusty's Retirement is an idle-farming simulator designed to sit at the bottom of your screen allowing you to work on other tasks while caring for your farm!
Grow crops:
Plant crops and watch Rusty get to work as he waters, nurtures, and harvests. Unlock new crops as you progress, from crispy carrots to ripe tomatoes.
Produce biofuel:
Use crops to produce clean and energy-efficient biofuel, a vital robot power source. Sell biofuel to other machine inhabitants and reinvest the money into expanding your farm.
Automate with robots:
Deploy a team of cute little robots to assist with planting, watering, and harvesting. Customize and upgrade your helper bots to increase efficiency.
Multitasking:
Rusty's Retirement is built to sit comfortably at the bottom of your screen allowing you to do other tasks while caring for your farm. Zoom in or out for a less distracting view, or alternatively turn on 'Focus Mode' which slows down crop production.
Vertical mode:
You can also create a new vertical farm that sits comfortably at the side of your screen.
Twitch Integration available:
Streamers and viewers can build a farm together. Viewers can control what task their robot should focus on through chat commands like !plant !water !harvest.

Official update history
Here are a few improvements and fixes:
- Improved biofuel yield on the new berry bushes. I've balanced their cost as well.
- New spooky decorations have appeared on Rusty's House! (Only for October)
- Fixed: biofuel bots will now carry the new berries to biofuel converters.
Hey folks,
I'm happy to announce that the new Autumn mini-update is out now, just in time for spooky season and the falling leaves!
[img src="{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44767508/a03f8cf7abd7319e36d5fea85b1c5c3edcf45a3c.gif"]
What's new?
New autumn-themed map where mushrooms spawn randomly across the farm.
Note: Mushrooms spawn on unused tiles.
Mushrooms can be harvested by harvest bots.
Pumpkins and white pumpkins are Jack-o-lanterns for the month of October.
Giant pumpkins and giant white pumpkins also have Jack-o-lantern versions.
Sonnet now sells Halloween decorations.
Rusty will put on a special costume on the day of Halloween.
10 new berry bushes have been added (finally!)
The number of bees/butterflies allowed on a single bush at a time has been increased from 2 -> 3.
Beehives now spawn an additional 4 bees. Previously, bees were only tied to crop patches.
Fixed: Reaper's shop would get stuck if you sent him off and then moved the outpost.
Fixed: small visual bug on the animal feeder, exclusive to the Balatro map.
No new achievements unfortunately. It didn't feel right to only add two achievements with the new content, so I decided to include them later (in a bigger update)!
Why is it a mini-update?
Since it's mainly cosmetic stuff, and the addition of a new map, I thought it would be more fitting to call it a mini-update. I am working on a few more mechanics, but I want to release them as part of a bigger update!
That's it for today, happy spooky season! ːorange_heartː
Hi folks!!
I'm super excited for today's update, so let's jump straight into it!
Introducing the new Balatro-themed map!
In other words, Rusty's Jimbo's Retirement!
The new map has complete character swaps, new houses, and a brand-new mechanic: harvesting crops spawns poker cards that can be played for spare parts.
Just like in the previous crossover, I wanted to take a specific mechanic from Balatro and try to squeeze it into Rusty's. I had to do something with poker cards and the joker effects!
[img src="{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44767508/a5dfbe7b7d469519709ad664ff3bc2b98c26cd62.gif"]
How does it work?
Normally, when you harvest a crop, you are rewarded with a small amount of spare parts instantly.
Now, when you harvest a crop, those spare parts are automatically played in a poker hand, and the joker will apply its effect to the result.
It's pretty OP, so we had to adjust some prices from the normal base game.

I'm super pleased with how this collab turned out, especially with how the poker mechanics are implemented into the game ːorange_heartː

If you haven't played Balatro yet, I wholeheartedly recommend it. It is truly one of a kind, and it actually has nothing to do with gambling (if you were worried about that!)
If you own Rusty, you can get an additional -10% off of Balatro, and vice-versa.
My little brother made a game all by himself!
Okay okay, I might have helped here and there with a few things but he did do like 95% of the work! I'm very impressed with how fast he picked up coding in Unity's game engine, plus the visuals look absolutely amazing - it really makes you want to decorate.
Skatehouse is a simplified version of a shop simulator with some idle mechanics. It's his first game, and I'd really appreciate it if you showed him some love and checked it out ːorange_heartː
[dynamiclink href="https://store.steampowered.com/app/3153020/Skatehouse/"]Proud big brother moment!!
That's it for today folks, I hope you enjoy the new Balatro map!

That's it for today folks, I hope you enjoy the new Balatro map!
Here are two quick fixes:
- Giovanna's icon was not displaying properly - fixed!
- White chips had a 100% spawn rate - also fixed!
I accidentally left on the 100% spawn rate while testing. I guess we can just call it an April Fools joke (a real one this time)
:laugh_rusty:
(I also have some big life news to share but I'll briefly touch on that towards the end)
Some of you may have heard of the smash hit indie, Vampire Survivors. Well, the kind folks over at Poncle were playing my silly little game, and had the idea of "What if Poe retired?". They reached out, I loved the idea, and we got to work on it!
Introducing the new Vampire Survivor-themed map!
In other words,
This new map has complete character swaps, new houses, and a brand-new mechanic; plant garlic to prevent bats from stealing your crops.
Aside from the obvious crossover reskin, I wanted to introduce a new (and slightly different) mechanic to the game so that existing players would also have something new to enjoy.
Bats will spawn from the edges of the map and try to steal your crops. You can defeat enemy bats by planting garlic that does damage over time (just like in VS). After defeating a bat, they will drop a gem which can then be picked up by nearby characters for extra spare parts or biofuel. As you expand the map, the bats also get stronger.
All of this can be toggled off if you are looking for a more casual experience!

It was fun to experiment with some light combat while trying to keep things feeling like the original game. This collaboration has opened the doors to more opportunities, so you can expect a few more of these crossovers with other games to come. That leads me to my next topic:
Mini Morris has entered the chat
[expand type=details]
Yup, I'm a Dad now! This little fella only just recently spawned into the world and he is such a bundle of joy. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to stay at home and help Mommy Morris raise the baby.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44767508/aaf5f57d2a226c5299c52b209eb30787b729b783.png
These crossovers feel like the best fit right now as we navigate these first few months of parenthood. I can bring more content to the game (in the form of skins), they also help bring new players, and I can experiment with different ideas without worrying if they fit into the overall vision that I have for the game.
The future
I still have plans to expand the base game, and to add more late game content, which seems to be the thing that most people have been requesting lately. While I don't want to promise anything specific, I have been toying around with mining, conveyor belts, and an electrical system that runs off of biofuel.

That's all for today folks,
Happy April Fools' Day, and I hope you enjoy the Rusty's Retirement x Vampire Survivor crossover!
Here are some minor bug fixes that have appeared with the new influx of players from the Daily Deal and the Idler Fest that is currently running on Steam.
- Setting a massive Taskbar height would launch the game completely off the screen. This should be fixed now (I accidentally broke it with the Winter update :sigh_haiku: )
- If you accidentally hit the spacebar to pause the game, you can now click on the pause icon to unpause. It's a small thing but people reported that they were getting stuck.
- Rusty/Haiku were glitching out when trying to move a box that had been deleted. This one was hard to reproduce on my end so I just added more checks to make sure that they wouldn't get stuck.
- Upgrading bots immediately gave the upgrade even if Echo was still working on the building. This should also be fixed now!
- And I've also fixed a few things which were mainly cosmetic :happy_splunk:
As always, thank you for playing, and I hope these small improvements help!
- Improved the odds slightly in the Reaper’s shop - now you have a higher chance to get a chip for a crop that doesn’t have any chips equipped.
- I’ve added a double confirmation when buying chips so you don’t accidentally overwrite an existing chip with a misclick.
- The crop information panel is now displayed when hovering over a chip allowing you to compare what chips you have equipped more easily.
- Added visual feedback for when you don’t have enough biofuel, spare parts, or fossils.
- Chickens, cats, and dogs should now appear correctly in the Statistics tab.
I hope these changes will help with the "Heavily modified crops - Unlock all chips" achievement ːorange_heartː
- Moving a chicken coop or a pet house would contribute to the "Cluck, cluck" and "Have a few pets" achievements. It should be fixed now!
- The !plant command for the Twitch integration was causing viewer bots to plant "ghost" crops. This should also be fixed!
Some of you have raised concerns about unlocking chips for all crops (and its respective achievement "Heavily modified crops"). I'm gathering feedback and I will most likely apply some balance changes in the upcoming days.
Currently, the shop will try to give you chips for your most recently unlocked crops, because these are more beneficial when it comes to earning biofuel and unlocking subsequent crops. Once you've unlocked all the crops, the chips are then completely randomized, giving you more chances of getting chips for older crops.
I'm closely monitoring the balancing of the shop and I will keep you posted on any updates ːorange_heartː
Update! Chip shop balances can be found here: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/2666510/view/571491226772046720
Lastly, how does Splunk feel with the new changes? Does he feel more productive?
Thanks!
