Our releases are packed into .zip archives — older ones are .rar — and compressed with zstd, a modern format that extracts dramatically faster. Here is how to open them, and how to fix the one error people occasionally run into.
Got an "unsupported method" error? Start here
If extraction fails with a message like unsupported method, unknown archive format, or data error — your download is not broken. The file is fine. It only means your extractor is outdated and predates zstd support.
The fix takes about a minute: update 7-Zip (7-zip.org) or WinRAR (win-rar.com) to the latest version — install it straight over your old one — then extract again. Current versions of 7-Zip and WinRAR both handle zstd perfectly; only old builds fail.
How to extract — step by step
- Download every part of the release. A single missing part means extraction will fail.
- Make sure your 7-Zip or WinRAR is up to date (see the section above).
- Right-click only the first part — the
.zipor.rarfile, or for split releases the first file in the set (for example.part01or.001). - Choose Extract Here or Extract to….
- Run the installer or the game from the extracted folder.
The two mistakes behind almost every problem
1. Extracting each part one by one. For a multi-part release you extract only the first part — your extractor automatically reads the rest (part2, part3 and so on) by itself. Right-clicking and extracting every part individually will fail, and it is the single most common reason a download looks “broken.” One right-click on the first part — that is the whole job.
2. An outdated extractor. An old 7-Zip or WinRAR simply cannot read zstd archives. Update it — see the section above.
Still stuck?
If your extractor is current and extraction still fails, the cause is almost always an incomplete download — re-download any missing or partial parts and try again. For anything else, hop into our Discord and the community will help you out.
