About the Game

Bruisers is unlike any boxing game before it. Don’t let the pixel art fool you, because the boxing is real: slip, counter, move your head, control distance, break your opponent down. Climb from amateur bouts to the top of the pros, and deal with anyone who wants a piece of you on the way up. Tread lightly. Some consequences here are fatal.
Build your fighter from scratch and take them as far as you can. Plan your meals, make weight, watch your vitals, hold down a job between fights. Stock your corner and work your way through the amateur, professional, and bareknuckle circuits.
Your boxer ages in real time. The years wear on you. So do the injuries, as damage accumulates. A career full of hard fights will show. Every decision compounds. A bad camp, a missed weight cut, the wrong fight at the wrong time: it all matters and it all adds up. Rivalries develop along the way, and some of them get personal.
Outside the ring, the world has its own rules. Your career might not go where you expect: every playthrough tells a different story. Shady dealings, illegal gambling, a mob presence that lurks just below the surface. Need an edge? There are “options” if you know where to look.
Blood. Stoppages. Knockouts. Some referees stop the fight. Others don’t. Backyard shows, dingy gyms, smoky clubs, and packed arenas. Every fight has a life of its own.
Need to settle a beef with a friend? Pull up a seat on the couch and jump into quick play with 100+ fighters inspired by real boxing history. Winner takes all.

FEATURES

Jabs, straights, hooks, uppercuts, and overhands — choose your punch selection and make it count. Master timing, counters, slipping punches, head movement, and parrying to edge the upper hand, in boxing that's built to feel real, not scripted. Your stance shifts to in-fighting the moment you get up close and personal with your opponent. Slick, Bully, or Balanced: three distinct boxing styles, each with its own strengths, weaknesses, and way of winning a fight. Learn yours, or get exposed. Tie up your opponent and deliver punches in the clinch to wear them down, before the referee steps in.

Start from nothing and climb from amateur to pro through training, wins, and tough choices, with every step feeding a career that actually grows with you. Or drop into the underground bareknuckle leagues instead.

Balance workouts, job shifts, and nutrition to stay healthy, level up, and make money to fund your needs between fights. Train, eat, survive, in that order.

Push too hard and you'll pay for it. Managing your injuries and your health matters as much as anything that happens in the ring. Stay sharp and recover smart.

A throwback art style carries modern gameplay systems and detail underneath. Retro on the surface, deeper than it looks.
Whether you’re a hardcore fight fan or just love a gritty, underdog story with old-school flavor, Bruisers 2D Boxing brings you the chance to create your own boxing journey.
Alongside the gameplay, Bruisers benefits from a 16-bit-inspired soundtrack, with hours of music lovingly handcrafted by Nick Bassett.

Bruisers 2D Boxing: Fight Tapes, Heavy Bag Combos & Pugilist Overhaul
Thanks for all your feedback since launch! This update adds highlight reels you can save, a new heavy bag drill, a reworked speed bag drill, further Pugilist AI balancing, and a long list of fixes from your reports.
NEW: Highlight Reels & Fight Tapes
* After every fight, a highlight reel plays back your knockdowns with commentary.
* Like a knockdown? Save it to the new Fight Tapes library on the main menu and rewatch it any time, with pause and frame-by-frame controls.
* During the reel, use L1/R1 to cycle through replays, or press Start to skip.
NEW: Heavy Bag Combo Drill
* The heavy bag is now a combo drill. Throw the combos shown on screen: the longer the combo you land, the more points you score.
* Land clean combos in a row and they get longer.
Speed Bag Rework
* Phase 1: keep the indicator in the target using your left and right hands.
* Phase 2: keep a steady rhythm and switch hands when prompted.
Career Mode
* New Records page: every opponent you've faced, with the date, their record at the time, the result, how it ended and the round. Track your rivals and go back for rematches. (New careers only.)
* Jobs count as training: working at woodcutting, the assembly line or fishing no longer costs you a skill point for skipping the gym.
* Better Auto Train: it now gives at least 75% of your best score in that drill, so getting good at a drill pays off. Best scores are saved per career.
* Fewer heavy-set fighters: about 1 in 5 generated fighters, down from half.
* A fairer mob:
* They leave you alone until you actually do business on the dark net (buying, betting or gambling).
* After that, they only take your cash while they're unhappy with you.
* The happiness meter turns red when they're angry and green when they're not.
Fights
* Referee and doctor stoppages have been rebalanced.
* Push and clinch only work when your opponent is right in front of you, within punching range. No more shoving someone from across the ring.
Replays & Commentary
* Press Start to skip a knockdown replay.
* The referee now waits for the replay to finish before restarting the fight, so nobody gets hit without warning.
* Replays only play in arenas with a commentator.
* New commentator lines as the fight resumes after a replay.
Pugilist Difficulty
* The Pugilist AI has been further balanced.
Fishing
* Every trip now has at least one fish worth eating, and you might just hook a rare monster…
Audio & UI
* New mail sound, which now plays once you're back on the career hub.
* Towelboy no longer pops back up when you press Triangle during mini games.
* Volume balancing for commentary, trainer and menu sounds.
Keep the reports coming in the Discord. We read every one!
Thanks again for all the feedback since launch! This second hotfix takes on some of the more pressing things we’ve noticed.
Judging
Judging is updated for pro, bare-knuckle and amateur bouts, in both Quick Play and Career Mode.
Pro and bare-knuckle fights: fair judges come up far more often, and swing judges are now much rarer.
The predicted scorecard between rounds is more reliable, though it can still differ from the official judge (intentionally).
Amateur judges now score purely on clean punches landed, rather than the pro criteria like work rate, ring generalship and effective aggression.
Fight Stats
CompuBruise has a new layout: percentages for every punch, head and body shots, the official score for the fight and for each round, and the judge’s name.
The between-round cards now show head and body shots.
The post-fight card now shows head and body shots.
Career Mode
New fighters joining the pro rankings no longer all arrive with sky-high stats. You’ll now see a mix of journeymen, solid fighters and the odd top prospect.
Meal plans: save your own presets or pick from premade ones, all stored in the meal shop.
Replays
Knockdowns now get a replay. You can switch it on or off in the display options.
Fixes
You can no longer pin an opponent on the ropes and spam single jabs, straights or 1-2s to the body.
Eating a fish no longer caps out at 2 lbs gained. It now adds half the fish’s weight.
You can no longer work or train with less energy than the activity needs. A message now tells you when you’re too tired.
Items that can’t be used between rounds are now greyed out in the between-round inventory.
Thanks for playing, and keep the feedback coming! It directly shapes what we fix and build next.
Your neighborhood, actual boxing fans.
Jev & Nick
Thanks to everyone who’s jumped into Bruisers over the last day and a half! We’re excited to roll out our first hotfix, shaped by your feedback, our own notes and everything we’ve spotted since launch.
[p align="start"]This update rebalances the difficulty levels, speeds up career progression and tightens up Pugilist mode. You’ll also find a new performance option for lower-end machines, fresh announcer lines and a batch of fixes.[p align="start"]DifficultyEasy is now more casual and forgiving: CPU fighters slip less, react more slowly, and your stamina drains less.
Medium now sits between the new Easy and Hard.
Healing costs now scale with your level: cheaper early on, pricier as your career grows.
Training pays off faster: auto training is now closer to that of the mini-game training, and normal training gives the opportunity for even bigger gains.
Early amateur opponents are now a fairer match for a new fighter’s starting skills.
Aging now a bit later, so late-career fighters stay challenged.
Mob emails:
If you delete the dark web code before using it, it’s sent again.
Once you’ve entered it, it won’t come back.
Once you’re cut off from the black market, the mob emails stop.
Headbutts now count across the whole fight instead of per round, so disqualifications can come sooner, for you and for CPU fighters.
Broken hands are now four times less likely.
CPU fighters can no longer use moves players can’t: Bully no longer sidesteps, and Balanced no longer probes.
Balance changes across all Pugilist fighters, including the heavier builds.
The draw result text no longer appears off center after fights
The commentator no longer says both fighters were knocked down when only one fighter goes down twice.
Quick Play: when player 2 backs out, player 1 gets control back.
Meals: cancelling a dish no longer leaves the price as if two dishes were picked. The price is now worked out when you buy the full meal.
Fishing: the tutorial now correctly says to move left or right.
Mac: Xbox controllers connected over Bluetooth now have the correct button layout.
New announcer lines between rounds.
New performance option to help the game run faster on lower-end machines. Automatically detects but is switchable in the display settings as well.
