About the Game
Den-Den: Tokyo Horror is a J-horror RPG where every choice carries the weight of human lives.
Japan’s birthrate has collapsed. The elderly now outnumber the young three to one, and Tokyo is dying. A brutal geopolitical blockade has cut off food, medicine, and power. Society is unraveling and violent crime is on the rise.
You play as a caregiver whose job is to keep the neglected elders alive for one night. The only problem: there aren't enough supplies for everyone.
How many of them will still be alive when the sun rises?
Welcome to Den-Den: Tokyo Horror. There is no happy ending to this story.
Features
Events unfold in real-time, with the game taking place over a single night.
Each hour that passes, the city falls further into chaos. Time is always moving forward and every choice you make has a consequence.
Manage your limited supplies while scavenging the city for whatever you can find in order to survive another hour.
Turn your trash into treasure by using recycling machines scattered around the city.
Enter into the nightmarish senior living facilities located around the city to care for the neglected elders you're responsible for.
Collect and equip powerful charms that grant supernatural blessings.
Fight or flee using improvised weapons such as kitchen knives, tasers, black-market pistols, and much more.
Your actions have permanent consequences. Every character in the game can die because of you.
Scavenge
Rummage through abandoned apartments, overflowing dumpsters, and dark alleys for anything that might buy one more hour of life. Food, painkillers, batteries, bullets… or nothing at all.
Discover
Talk, listen, lie, threaten, or comfort. Every conversation branches. Every relationship can save you or doom the people you’re supposed to protect.
Fight or Flight
Desperate people, violent criminals, and things far worse stalk the streets. Swing a rusty kitchen knife, fire a shaking pistol, shock with an electrifying taser, or simply run. Do whatever it takes to stay alive until sunrise.
Fear
Something evil has awakened in the darkest corners of the city. It feeds on neglect, regret, and bad decisions. Make too many wrong choices… and it will come for you, and everyone left in your care.

- We added a "Government ID Card" to the "Water Delivery" abandoned house.
- We added some blood to the dead dog that was killed in a car crash.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed a bug where the cough syrup item was not working correctly. We have also adjusted the values of the original effect.
- Fixed a bug where the Stalker who killed himself had a item on his corpse that shouldn't exist.
Major Fixes:
- Fixed a bug where players couldn't immediately pick up the bomb from the back of the Church if they had just received the quest to do so.
- Fixed a bug where NPCs that had weapons would have the weapons duplicated in their inventory every time they would become re-loaded into the game world. This bug allowed people to basically have infinite guns and ammo, which was not desired.
- Fixed a bug that prevented players from being able to purchase batteries from the convenience store. Players now have the option to purchase batteries from both convenience stores.
Minor Fixes:
- Fixed a bug where the number of seconds on the clock wouldn't appear when the player had the vending machine UI open.
- Fixed a bug where when you looted a shotgun from an NPC that was using a shotgun, the shotgun mesh wouldn't visually disappear from the corpse.
- Fixed a bug where there was two NPCs duplicated on top of each other in the Shin-Kagutaba zone.
- Fixed a bug where the map would say KageTeku Plaza was locked, even after it had been unlocked.
- Fixed a bug where only one of the rioters in the Senior Prison Facility level had a pistol, but the dialog with the security guard said there was two missing pistols. There are now two rioters that use pistols during the prison riot sequence.
Major Fixes:
- The "Dog Lady" quest line is now working and has been re-added back into the game.
- We fixed the original crash that would occur whenever a "Pack Leader" enemy would spawn into the game world. The "Pack Leader" enemy type now spawns correctly when the conditions have been met in the game.
- Players are now able to succesfully earn the achievement called "Forbidden Meat".
- Players are now able to succesfully earn the achievement called "Happy Dogs".
- Players are now able to succesfully earn the achievement called "Pack Leader".
Minor Fixes:
- Added back the loading screen. We have received reports from users that the change we made did not fix their initial startup crashes.
Major Fixes:
Removed the loading screen we were using previously from the game. Previously we were using the "Async Loading Plugin" for Unreal Engine, but we believe this was the root cause of most of the startup crashes people were having. We will implement something new ASAP, but this should stop people from crashing while we come up with a new solution.
Fixed bugs with Higashi-Kagutaba Underground dungeon, including some issues with "Pazuzu Puff".
Minor Fixes:
Fixed a bug where ibuprofen played the wrong sound effect when you used the item.
Fixed a bug where potato chips played the wrong sound effect when you used the item.
Developer Notes:
We think we've finally fixed the issues with the "Pazuzu Puff" quest that takes place inside the Higashi-Kagutaba Underground dungeon. Unfortunately, this fix will not be retroactive for old save files.
After removing the "Async Loading Plugin" from the game, players will notice that at times they can see the game in the background before our temporary loading screen appears. We hope to be able to re-enable to Async Loading Plugin once we identify the issue that is causing some PCs to crash.
Major Fixes:
- Some users have reported crashing on the startup movies where the Frozen Lake Software logo and Unreal Engine logo appear. We've removed the startup movies from auto-playing while we identify the root cause of the issue.
- We've fixed the bug related to the Shinto Priest and Goth Girl NPCs. Previously, players were unable to complete the quest if they chose the "Good" ending after speaking with the Demon in the cave.
- Two new items have been added into the game as quest rewards for the Shinto Priest and Goth Girl NPC quests: "Omamori of the Old Man" & "Omamori of the Child".
Minor Fixes:
- We've made adjustments to the Yakuza quest. When a player fails the Yakuza quest, we've added some additional visuals outside of the bar to indicate that the Yakuza Boss has been killed by the police. We've also added a map marker showing the location of the failed quest. Originally, it was confusing to some players why they were not able to enter the izakaya after a certain time in the night.
- Fixed bugs related to some floating assets that could be found in the city level.
Minor Fixes:
- Fixed a bug where some users had a corrupted save file and were unable to complete the quest inside the Higashi-Kagutaba Underground dungeon. With this change, if you are one of the users that were being impacted by this, you should now be able to load from an existing save and complete the quest rather than having to start a new game.
Game Balance changes:
Developers Notes: To help put the following changes into perspective, it would be helpful to know that normally, a player has a maximum stamina of 200. This can be increased with items found in the game, but in general, a player has max of 200 stamina.
- When using a Taxi, your health and stamina are now restored to 100%.
- Stamina regeneration now begins after 3 seconds instead of 5 seconds.
- Stamina now regerates 150% faster.

- "Omamori of the Pheasant" now increases your max stamina by 50, up from the previous 20.
- "Coffee" now recovers between 40-45 stamina. This is down the previous 50-75 stamina.
- "Beer" now reduces stamina by 25-30. This is up from the previous 20-25. Health recovery for this item remains the same.
- "Soda" & "Diet Soda" now recovers between 32-37 stamina. This is up from the previous 26-31.
- "Energy Drink" now recovers between 70-75 stamina. This is up from the previous 35-43.
- "Cigarettes" now recovers between 25-30 stamina. This is up from the previous 18-23.
- "Energy Bar" now recovers between 25-30 stamina. This is up from the previous 20-25.
- "Sports Drink" now recovers between 45-50 stamina. This is up from the previous 30-40.
- "Water" now recovers between 25-30 stamina. This is up from the previous 18-22.
- The effect from drinking "Sports Drink" has been increased from 60 seconds to 90 seconds.
Major Fixes:
- Updated the visuals for the "Water Delivery" abandoned house. This change was made based upon player feedback, with many players being unable to identify the cellar door that is required to proceed.
- Fixed bug where after leaving the "Water Delivery" house, players would be teleported to the train station instead of the front door of the house.
- Fixed a bug where if players completed the "Water Delivery" house, exited the house, and re-entered the house, they would get locked inside and couldn't leave.
- Fixed a bug where the "Kamikaze Kana" ending was playing the final cinematic too quickly, causing the first few seconds to be hidden behind a loading screen.
Minor Fixes:
- Made some adjustments to the Japanese translation. These changes were made based upon player feedback.
Major Fixes:
- Removed the animated eyeball that follows your mouse cursor from the main menu screen.
Developer Notes:
We continue to receive reports from a small number of people that when they launch the game, before even being able to click "New Game", the game crashes for them. Thus, leaving them unable to play the game.
Because of this, we've had to make the very difficult decision to remove this animated eyeball from the main menu.
Internally, we've been unable to replicate the reported crash. On October 17, I mentioned that we had tested this internally across 7 different computers without being able to make the game crash. Today we have tested on 3 different budget consumer laptops that don't even have a dedicated GPU, and the game still doesn't crash.
After this fix, there will be nothing more we can do to fix the issue unless we are given more information from players.
If you are one of the users being impacted by a startup crash, it would be tremendously helpful if you can send the following to us:
1. Crash report logs which can be found at the following location on your PC: %LocalAppData%\DenDenTokyoHorror\Saved\Crashes
2. GPU Model
3. GPU Driver Version
4. OS + OS Version
You can email me the crash report data directly at my personal email - [email protected] - I will do everything I can possibly do to try and fix this issue for you that you are able to play the game.
Major Fixes:
- Added a rendering optimization to the "Moving Eyeball" on the Main Menu. This change has been made due to a small number of users reporting that the game immediately crashes when they open it from Steam. This adjustment has been made to try and fix the issue for the users that are being impacted.
Developer Notes:
We have received reports from a small number of users that the game crashes for them either after selecting a language the first time when launching the game, or anytime they navigate to the Main Menu.
The team has tried to replicate the crash across 7 different computers but are unable to do so. The change we have made in this hotfix hopes to address the issue.
If you are one of the users who are being impacted by this rare issue, please let us know if this patch fixes your issue.
Major Fixes:
- Fixed a major issue that causing the game to crash for all players whenever the "Pack Leader" enemy type would spawn into the game world. We have temporarily disabled the "Pack Leader" enemy type from spawning into the game while we investigate the issue further.

- Fixed a bug where a very small number of players would get into a situation where the children at the playground would disappear.
Major Fixes:
- Fixed a critical bug that was causing some players to not be assigned at least 50% of the abandoned homes that are part of the Police quest from being assigned to the player.
- Fixed a bug where Takeshi, who is one of the old people that you take care of, wasn't having his HP properly calculated during the "End of Hour" sequence.
