About the Game
The free, major update, Phantom Brigade 2.0, is now available!
The 2.0 update is extensive, transforming nearly every aspect of the game, but the highlights include:
Fully realized pilots – Recruit pilots with over 100 unique pilot traits and abilities which allow for in-depth buildcrafting and synergies with your mechs. With a new recruitment and class specialization system, expansive leveling with varied progression trees, combined with new visual customisation options, you can build your own flavor of deadly (and stylish) ace pilots.
A reworked campaign – New maps, new quests, and new combat scenarios along with fully rebalanced factions ensure you face varied squads with different equipment, armour and unit configurations. You have even more reason to collect new equipment and experiment with different loadouts to take on these new threats.
Completely reimagined overworld – Explore new provinces, varied landscapes and overhauled campaign systems. New liberation and overworld mechanics, new points of interest and events, new province modifiers and improved mission generation provide a varied, constantly evolving environment to encourage players to adapt and overcome.
A HUGE amount of community driven quality of life updates – New salvage and debriefing menus, new mission previews and reward generation, reworked workshop and crafting, improved damage logic and prediction, new options and difficulty settings, comprehensive weapon balancing, subsystem reworks and much more!
Phantom Brigade is a cinematic, tactical mech strategy game with an innovative timeline-based command system. See the future, predict enemy actions, and plot your counterattack on the timeline! Recruit and level up your squad of rebels to retake war-torn Fyrland from the Kaskad occupation.
KEY FEATURES:
Cinematic spin on the turn-based genre – Predict enemy movements, orchestrate precisely timed countermeasures, and hit “execute” to watch the physics-based action unfold in real time.
Extensive customization – Featuring a rich customization system, Phantom Brigade enables you to fine-tune the performance of your mechs, install a wide selection of equipment, and access a wealth of cosmetic options. Prepare your squad for any challenge - in style.
An expansive arsenal – Railguns, beam weapons, missiles, energy swords, and more! Rain destruction down upon your homeland’s invaders with weaponry salvaged from each enemy mech you defeat.
Strategic tactical combat – Make high-level tactical decisions on the world map, manage your mobile base, and decide how to apply your limited resources. Take command of your squad in varied missions ranging from sabotage of enemy equipment and convoy ambushes to liberation battles and challenging outpost onslaughts.
Destructible environments – It's not a proper game about giant mechs without destructible buildings! Phantom Brigade allows every square meter of each battle map to be destroyed. Shatter your enemy’s cover and collapse buildings on top of them!

🆕 New Features and Content
Added dynamic display of stability in unit overlays and unit details
It can be challenging to know whether a unit will crash or not based on the weight class icon alone, without seeing the internal stability value
Stability depends on unit types and armor classes and changes with movement, shielding, dashing and other events; so having it displayed can help you make informed decisions during combat
Stability numbers on overlays and unit details refresh dynamically, reflecting all the contributing factors as combat plays out
You can see the new UI element in the screenshots below:
[img src="{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33272985/3c995b5fd1c983903e644bb74bb8e0c67e79eb99.png"][img src="{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/33272985/45fefd98b7e07b3ccd13c7d06693ed78775fe82a.png"]
Added two toggles to disable the notifications in the top right corner of the screen:
The two new "Show notifications" toggles are located at Settings > Game > World UI and Settings > Game > Combat UI
With the setting disabled, only the critical notifications will continue to appear (game saving, overdrive damage, errors on deployment)
With the setting enabled, you will see secondary notifications about loot, unit status, inventory changes and more (previous default)
🔁 Changes
Changed the "Unstoppable" pilot action to gain stability that is one point under the maximum, preventing draws against fully uncrashable units like turrets
Changed some behaviour around pinned units
Pinned units no longer get maximum possible stability and instead possess normal stability for a given unit type
Pinned units can be crashed, interrupting the pinned state
Pinned units can be impaled with a spike launcher, interrupting the pinned state
Changed Contract squad pilot levels - they will now be randomly promoted to level 3-5 instead of staying at level 1
Changes to railguns (check Fixes section for more!)
Reduced railgun projectile speed based on how many obstacles a projectile has penetrated, improving hit registration and making railgun shots easier to dodge when they've passed through multiple obstacles
Reduced railgun penetration by ~30%
Reduced projectile speed of RF Flux railgun splitter from 1000 to 500m/s to make fragmentation more reliable at low frame rates
Changed the inputs for accessing unit editing from the Squad menu on controller and keyboard
Empty slots, filled pilot slots and filled unit slots now have separate input hints, with filled slots pointing out how to reach the edit button (e.g. "edit unit: Y")
Y links to edit unit from filled unit slot (X/Z on keyboard)
Y links to edit pilot from pilot slot for consistency (in addition to d-pad up) (X/Z and arrow keys on keyboard)
B on edit button brings you back to a filled slot instead of jumping to exit button (ESC on keyboard)
🛠️ Fixes
Fixed each contract difficulty being infinitely repeatable without leaving the base. Each completed difficulty is locked until you complete a fight with your squad, resupply, camp or travel.
Fixed the incorrect spread of rewards on contracts of all difficulties. Easier contracts are intended to spawn fewer rare parts.
Fixed the warnings about the player squad triggering on contract deployment
Fixed province modifiers inserting unintended rewards into contract scenarios
Fixed province modifiers inserting unintended units into contract scenarios
Tentative fixes to a handful of exceptions that could occur across the game
Fixed several localization issues (correct localization not being used, localization not being displayed correctly etc)
Fixed allied tanks not being able to retreat
Fixed Enter on keyboard and X/square on controllers not focusing the exit button after finishing combat
Fixed the main menu sub-screens not closing when clicking the 'Continue' button to load the latest save, causing the confirmation dialogue to overlap with other UI
Fixed the "reset on inactivity" setting resetting prediction time without resetting the inactivity timer, causing time to jitter back and forth in some cases
Fixed camera movement and rotation not resetting the inactivity timer
Fixed the UI not re-enabling timeline scrubbing when the UI hidden via Numpad + is forced back on by entering the pause menu
Fixed the attack prediction not considering railgun penetration
Fixed the railgun penetration not registering exit hits on the environment
Fixed the railgun SMG and railgun splitter displaying incorrect weapon classes
Fixed the ceiling collision being set one meter higher than intended on all underground levels, allowing projectiles to disappear into the ceiling
Fixed dashes and movement actions being allowed to reach the top of the underground levels
Fixed the event log in battle spamming notification SFX even when closed
Fixed lossless screenshots preserving rendered alpha, making UI in lossless screenshots look semitransparent
Fixed the spike collisions being slightly too short to pin enemies at an angle
Fixed impaled units not losing spikes when hitting edges of the map, causing them to fly out of bounds or jitter at the border when impaled
Fixed impaled units not recording velocity correctly, causing them not to push other units
Fixed impaled units phasing through collisions
Fixed impaled units not playing hit react animations
Fixed overzealous logging for a few features bloating log sizes and causing hitches while playing
Fixed the out-of-bounds unit crash logic triggering within level bounds
Fixed AstarPath potentially initializing too many threads and causing a NotSupportedExceptions on machines with over 64 available threads
Could be one of the causes behind the rare issue where players can't move in the overworld!
This fix is retroactive and should not require a restart of your campaign!
Fixed a bug where gameplay tips weren't appearing to players after the first breakthrough mission.

That's it, that's the update!
🆕 NEW FEATURES
Added texture streaming to reduce memory use. When enabled, the game will continuously adjust texture sizes depending on objects in camera view, saving approximately 1-1.5Gb of memory depending on the scene. The new option is on by default, but can be toggled through the graphics settings.

🪲 Known issues
For some users, the game may take up to 5 minutes to launch.
We're unsure of the cause at the moment and are continuing to investigate - if you are having trouble launching the game (no game window appears after a minute, the game sits on a black screen for a minute, etc) it may be that it's still initializing. If the game continues to fail to launch, please email logs to [email protected] - these will help us troubleshoot the issue. Thank you!
The game crashes on Intel Arc GPUs due to DX11 support limitations
For now we recommend installing and using DXVK as a workaround
Discord overlay may not be compatible with the game and may prevent keyboard inputs from being registered
Combat prediction holograms can stop working, failing to show bullets, current facing direction, and other important combat actions
If you run into this, relaunch the game. We are actively working to reproduce and resolve this, so please look forward to a future hotfix.
Sometimes, UI in salvage screen cannot be clicked
To work around this, use the buttons at the top of the columns to change the entire category, then adjust the ones that you can click. We are still troubleshooting this issue
Bosses or base defenses may have overlapping UI icons if multiple boss fights are completed in the same game session
Some pilot traits don't display their effects in the briefing squad UI
Backpacks are not listed in the briefing squad UI
UI during transition event after first capital battle can be confusing; some players report being stuck after the first fight in the capital province, with the screen being blurred and province movement locked. The campaign requires you to camp at that moment. Please check the bottom left corner of the screen and confirm camp to proceed. If you do not see the camp button in the bottom left corner of the screen or if the button is unresponsive, please submit an in-game report to help us investigate this issue further.
We'd like to thank our amazing modding community! Make sure to check the Workshop to see what other players have created (or check the SDK if you're interested in making your own)
We've been working hard on the next update and can't wait to share it with you. We really appreciate your continued support! Please stay tuned for more details and keep the feedback coming, your input is invaluable to us!
🔁 Changes
Added a resource conversion workshop project to allow changing Uncommon or Rare components into Basic Components
Improved the spawn criteria for enemy reinforcements in base defence missions to prevent them from spawning close to the mobile base
Lowered the cost of scrapping an Uncommon or Rare piece of equipment in the salvage menu to from 10/15 to a flat 5
Increased the speed of the mobile base in the tutorial province
Re-enabled scanning of the Steam Workshop downloads folder in preparation for the Mod SDK update at a later date
Steam Workshop will reopened alongside the 2.0 SDK update. The updated SDK will allow Workshop mod developers to upload new versions of their mods compatible with 2.0.
⚒️ Bugfixes
Fixed several pilot traits (Frost Giant, Nimble Giant, Scout and Feather Leap) not working as intended
Fixed common rarity gear built in the workshop sometimes being training level instead of common
Fixed a rare issue in the briefing menu where a piece of grass was spawned in front of the camera, obscuring the squad
Fixed non-crewed units such as turrets, drones and generators in breakthrough missions not being counted as destroyed if they were destroyed by overheat damage
Fixed the game loading old mods that aren't marked as 2.0 compatible
If you have a locally installed mod that hasn't been updated for 2.0 by its developer, and you are absolutely sure it remains compatible with 2.0 (for example, a mod adding new liveries), you can force it to load.
Find the metadata.yaml file in the mod folder and adjust the line reading gameVersionMin: to gameVersionMin: 2.0. We'd like to remind you that we do not process bug reports from modded game sessions, so do this at your own risk!
Attempted fix for a rare softlock in the tutorial where the frontline base failed to spawn
Attempted fix for an exception that could occur when enemy reinforcements landed
Attempted fix for an exception that could occur when units crashed in certain circumstances
Attempted fix for an exception that could occur that prevented movement on the overworld
Attempted fix for an exception that could occur when units collided with a destroyed projectile

Added additional logging to attempt to resolve an issue where the base cannot be moved on the overworld
Added a link to the bug reporter and to Discord in the pause menu

Changed patrol speed
Many players were having trouble avoiding them - we've reduced their speed for the time being until a more comprehensive fix can be made
⚒️ Bugfixes
Fixed a crash on startup due to audio device logging
Fixed a regression with the previous hotfix - rewards, enemy squad makeup and loadouts, etc were not being saved correctly, leading to differing results when loading a pre-combat save
Tentatively fixed an issue where the mobile base would move extremely slowly due to misbehaving low framerate compensation (compensation kicked in and slowed down time at high framerates instead)
Fixed the softlock that could occur during pilot recruitment tutorial if the player had previously spent resources elsewhere, when those resources were reserved for the tutorial
Fixed an issue that prevented unlocked backpacks from being listed in the workshop
Fixed patrol spawn chance during the Contest phase of province liberation - was accidentally set to 0%, is now set to 25%
Fixed a premature deletion of the battlesite when retreating from an Incursion mission causing multiple issues with player resources and squads
Fixed several typos in English

Fixed the top left livery button being inaccessible
Fixed a softlock in the tutorial that could occur if a movement action was being placed before the tutorial finished displaying its text

- Improved lighting on distant terrain
- Improved the appearance of dissipating missile trails
- Improved backgrounds on several maps
Fixes

- Fixed a large number of bugs and deficiencies in the modding system. More information available here
Known issues
- Enemy mechs may not eject when they normally would
- Occasionally, destroyed mechs are flung around the map after viewing replay mode.
- Tooltips can flow off the sides of the screen in some circumstances.
- On launch, it seems audio is occasionally not playing on the main menu and in gameplay except for cutscenes. If you do encounter this please relaunch your game.
- There is a chance of the province liberation event being interrupted by other post-combat events, meaning the opportunity to participate in the parade is not given to the player when the province is won.
- Some events do not end correctly - this could be caused by playing with an older save file.
- Sometimes patrols can get stuck behind the mobile base without engaging in combat. This can be resolved by entering liberated territory briefly.
- Performance issues are common.
- Fixed camera getting locked during tutorial
- Fixed camera bouncing when taking actions
