About the Game

Overview / What Is TaleSpire?
TaleSpire is a beautiful way to play pen and paper RPGs online. Bring your stories to life and embark upon campaigns together with your friends, regardless of where you are in the world.
With Talespire, the beauty and physicality of tabletop gaming meet the endless possibilities of a digital world. Here you can collaboratively build your worlds without compromising the handcrafted aesthetic of using traditional miniatures.
As a player, you can take on the mantle of multiple heroes and creatures, manage your stats, and express yourself using the growing emote system. Perform dice rolls directly on the board and interact with your environment — at least, as far as your GM will let you!
As a GM, you can dazzle and thrill your friends by building expansive maps, setting up shots, and controlling immersive soundscapes to bring all your delightful and devious designs to life.
TaleSpire is not tied to a specific game or ruleset. Whether you’re running a one-shot or a sprawling campaign, if it's on a square grid then we have your back. We are now in Early Access, so now is your chance to raise up your sword, rally your friends, and take your next adventure online with us.
Building and play are one
Setting the stage for your story takes no time at all with Talespire, but even if you forget to prep, it can all be added in while you play. Want to destroy a wall to reveal a secret passage? Do it! Want to rain down piles of gold from the heavens? You have the power. At any moment during your adventure, you (or multiple GMs) can jump into building mode and change the world without interrupting anything else. Our persistent online boards can be created at a moment’s notice, and everything is synchronized in real-time as you dice-roll your way to glory.
A slew of tools to help you on your adventures
It’s dangerous to go alone, but luckily we have a bunch of tools that can help, and all are as pleasing as they are useful. Beautiful dice, rulers and area markers, a range of emotes, and special modes for turn-based combat and cinematic sequences are at your disposal.
A growing library of assets
Pick from a plethora of pieces to create your scenes! The current roster stands at 280 miniatures, 2100 tiles and props, and 60 unique audio tracks. Our library is ever-expanding; we produce fresh asset packs every month.
Share your creations
TaleSpire boards are designed to be easily shared, whether with friends or with the wider community on sites like TalesBazaar or TalesTavern. You can copy sections of your boards (slabs) and paste them as text outside of TaleSpire. Simply paste the text back into TaleSpire to summon the slab to your hand.
This tale has only just begun
Being in Early Access we still have plenty of adventures ahead of us. We have an active Discord community, which you can find in the social section, and alongside your feedback we’re looking forward to developing the game’s features. So come, journey with us a while.

Official update history
It's time for another Beta! For all details and instructions on how to join the Beta, see: https://talespire.com/welcome-to-the-hide-tweak-beta
The visible changes are:
Hide volumes now respond to the hide plane
If the camera gets too close to a hide-volume, the volume can hide.
[img src="{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36943214/313c2dee0f237f73d5aa937449cc9c78ed47cf87.gif"]
Behind the scenes, the way hide-volumes are represented and rendered has changed. Unofficial modders will want to kick the tires of anything that hooks into that system.
The Beta is expected to run for a week before it gets merged into the live branch. Reports of bugs and other weirdnesses are very welcome.
See you next time!

The next code release coming is a fix to hide-volumes not being hidden by the hide plane.
Back soon!
This patch contains some simple bug fixes.
The current build on the beta branch is now what we intend to release.

See you then!

Assorted small bug-fixes
Back soon with a release!
This patch brings a fix for the new cache for mod.io requests.
The Beta is going well. We'll have some more tweaks landing before the release next week.
Have a nice weekend folks
This is a very unexciting patch from a gameplay point of view, but it has some stuff we need to make the game more robust.
Changes include:
Fix the console as it was starting late and so was missing some important logs during startup
Internal changes to support better workarounds in case of server connectivity issues
Assorted low-level code fixes and improvements
Hope this finds you well. More fixes and news as they happen!
p.s. If you are into the behind-the-scenes stuff, you can find the dev-log over at https://bouncyrock.com/news/
Hi folks,
Apparently, there are still bugs, who knew!
In this release, we fix the following:
An error that would occur if you joined a board while players had an open request for a multi-creature attack
A bug in physics that could cause an error on exit.
Poor handling of a reasonably rare connection issue.
A full crash when TaleSpire was given a malformed tsMod file.
We are already hard at work on the next set of fixes, so look out for those soon.
p.s. There may be a slight increase in start-up time due to the validation we've added to the files. We are going to look into speeding that back up in a coming release.
Hi folks, we are coming in hot with a pile of fixes for you.
We have:
Fixed a bug where a portion of the symbiote might not be clickable.
Tweaked the tools so gm-blocks can be placed on the surface of hidden tiles & props.
Fixed a typo in the cut-tool description.
Improved symbiote documentation for the picking tool. Information on the data the function returns should now be clearer.
Improved Isolation mode so now correctly cuts AOEs
Tweaked HeroForge downloads, so they don't start until you reach the board.
Fixed a bug where messages being sent to the server during a disconnect were mishandled.
That last one was responsible for some cases of TaleSpire loading your boards infinitely. We don't believe this was the only bug that has that symptom, but we are still happy to have one less reason for it to happen.
We have more fixes coming tomorrow, so we'll see you then.
p.s. We have been alerted to an issue where HeroForge miniatures have stopped downloading.
The problem was that, when TaleSpire asked HeroForge for the download information, the URLs returned to us were incorrect for some miniatures.
We have been in contact with HeroForge, and they are in the process of fixing the problem. We will let you know when they have finished that work. You should not have to do anything on your side; the miniatures should repair themselves once HeroForge has completed its fix.
We have a couple of little fixes and a small feature improvement for you.
You can now configure which folder the photo mode saves your snaps to. You can do this from both the Settings panel and photo mode itself. There are also little buttons to take you to the saved photos folder.

We also fixed two little things
We fixed an issue where photos might include the "syncing" UI
Popup messages now truncate if the text would overflow
Alright. That's that for this patch. We'll see you again soon with more.

p.s. Our bi-monthly banter is coming up this Friday (December 12th) on Twitch at 21:00 UTC. If you'd like to ask us questions and hear the latest behind-the-scenes updates, you can find us there. The vod will, as always, be uploaded to youtube afterwards. Hope to see some of you there!
Today's release brings four fixes:
Unsubscribing from community content and TitanCraft minis could fail to delete the local files. TaleSpire will clean up the unwanted files on the next launch.
Fixed a case where spawning subscribed creatures from the community browser wouldn't work for almost 30 seconds after the creature finished downloading. Now it should take at most a few seconds.
Previously, a player could change who the party-gm. That's a GM-only option now.
Deleting the last dynamic tile or prop in a region could leave it's invisible colliders behind.
We have more fixes and small features on the way, so stay tuned!
Thanks to the help of some lovely folks in the community who provided logs and tested builds, we have a new fix for you.
On my machine, with 300 miniatures installed, this patch reduces memory usage from 5.1GB to 1.3GB, a 3.8GB reduction.
In short, a bug caused TaleSpire to load every installed miniature into memory upon launch. Which, for some folks, was disastrous!
Thank you for bearing with us as we fixed this issue.
And now, back to your regularly scheduled gaming!
