About the Game
This is not a hero's tale. It is a record of observed history.

The End of History is a historical sandbox simulation set in a medieval fantasy world.
In this world, NPCs live with their own wills and intentions, just as the player does.
Even without your involvement, they wage war, fall in love, betray one another, and sometimes perish.
From the accumulation of countless such events, a completely different history emerges every playthrough.
Living as one person in this world, you sometimes intervene in history and sometimes simply observe from a distance, experiencing a one-of-a-kind story that only you can witness.
Every NPC Is Alive

The defining feature of this game is that every NPC continues to act autonomously.
Glance at a character's biography and you may discover they've been living an extraordinary life.
Before you know it, an NPC you were fond of has quietly married the king of another nation.
A once gentle ruler, after enduring war after war, accumulated hatred and began acting with shocking cruelty.
Even without your involvement, the world moves on its own, and NPCs create their own drama.
At the heart of this game is the joy of observing these unpredictable developments.
Prevent the Collapse of the World, Your Way

You are given a single mission: to stop the collapse of the world.
This world moves toward ruin as hatred and division accumulate.
There is no single path to prevent collapse. Diplomacy, economics, warfare, or intervention in personal relationships are just some of the approaches available to you.
Live Freely. Write Your Own History

You begin as a nameless wanderer, and how you live from there is entirely your choice.
Serve a nation or faction and build a legacy. Found your own realm and aim to unite the land.
Rally behind a favorite NPC and spend your life as their loyal advisor.
Or simply live as an observer, watching history unfold.
When you belong to a state, you may occasionally receive difficult orders from your liege.
Once you have your own faction and retainers, you can pass those orders down to your subordinates, tackling challenges as an organization.
Whichever path you choose, the sum of your decisions shapes the world and becomes a history that is yours alone.
Technology Advances, Eras Change

Combat begins with swords and bows, but as time passes, technologies emerge: gunpowder, firearms, cannon tanks, and flying warships.
When the age of knights gives way to the age of firepower, the nature of battle changes dramatically.
Whether to embrace new technology or deliberately hold it back. That choice, too, colors your roleplay.
Uncover the Mystery of the "Obelisk"

Fragments of clues are scattered across the world.
What is the true nature of the massive structure known as the Obelisk, said to have once held infinite wisdom?
Discover for yourself how it is connected to a world on the brink of collapse.
A World Where Unique Histories Are Born

There is no predetermined scenario in this game.
The "history that is observed" through countless events becomes a story that is yours alone.
"My spouse was killed in battle, and as I fought to avenge them, the world collapsed."
"I spent twenty years as a loyal advisor, rallying behind a beloved NPC until we unified the continent together."
"I kept executing all prisoners from every nation I conquered, until the enemy countries declared war of vengeance, again and again."
These are all one-of-a-kind stories experienced by real players.
A different history unfolds every playthrough, leaving you thinking "I want to try this differently next time" even after dozens of hours.

NPCs live, fight, form bonds, and sometimes perish even beyond your sight.
Yet a single move on your part can leave a lasting impact on their lives.
That accumulation is the one-of-a-kind history that only you can observe.
Is This Game For You?
This game has very distinct characteristics, so we want to be upfront about what makes it enjoyable.
Highly recommended if you:
Enjoy observing and interacting with NPCs who feel genuinely alive
Can appreciate events that do not go your way as part of the story
Love the experience of watching a world evolve on its own, stepping in only occasionally
We recommend trying the free demo first if you:
Want to fully control or "complete" every NPC (NPC behavior is unpredictable and won't follow your plans)
Are primarily looking for satisfying action combat (this game's combat is strategy- and command-focused)
Want to follow a fixed story to its conclusion (this game has no predetermined scenarios or scripted endings)

Official update history
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue where the game would become softlocked if the Combat Art selection popup was closed with the Esc key when learning a Combat Art after winning a battle.
Fixed an issue where, during a territory invasion battle, using a Combat Art that targets an enemy unit when no enemy units were present would lock the game in target selection mode, making the game unable to progress.
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue where bombardments from artillery, gun carriages, and airships were not dealing damage to castle gates.
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue where button prompts for entering/attacking territories would display gamepad icons despite no gamepad being connected.
As gamepad is not yet supported, button prompts are now fixed to keyboard keys regardless of gamepad connection status.Fixed an issue where time could progress during dialogue in the ending sequence.
Updates
Added a feature that allows fast-forwarding dialogue by holding down the Ctrl key during conversations.
[img src="{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45019907/80d753030ab530315bf74155183af89d3727cc28.gif"]
Added functionality to close or cancel UI panels and various selections by pressing the Esc key.
The general priority of Esc key behavior is as follows:If there is a closable UI panel, it will be closed.
During conversations, if there is a cancel-related option such as “End Conversation,” it will behave as if that option was selected.
In territory facilities such as taverns or lord’s halls, if there is an option to leave the facility, it will behave as if that option was selected.
When performing domestic or development actions such as agricultural development or soldier training, it will behave the same as pressing the interrupt button.
If none of the above apply, the Save/Load and related function panel will be displayed.
Added a feature that grays out dialogue options which repeat the same content once they have already been selected.
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue where the game could become unplayable if the player, while belonging to a nation as a faction leader, was invited to join another faction leader’s rebellion.
Fixed an issue where, if multiple vassals proposed granting the same territory to the player as king, approving all proposals could cause a single territory to belong to multiple factions.
Implemented other minor fixes and updates.
Hotfix (Added at 22:05 JST)
Fixed an issue where you could sometimes be unable to end the conversation with Witch Ashberry.
Updates
This update focuses on improving tactical depth and overall comfort during combat.
Added the ability to assign formations by unit type. This allows for more strategic play based on force differences, positioning, and unit characteristics— such as encirclement, central breakthroughs, securing firing lines for ranged units, or drawing enemy frontline troops away to expose their leader.
[img src="{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45019907/2b55408809a780e7fe064b2788023810fc3d0f4c.gif"]Added a visual indicator showing the predicted impact point of cannon fire.
Added an “X” indicator effect when the player’s arrows are blocked by hitting an ally.
Balance Adjustments
Improved camera behavior when looking upward in battle, making it easier to see castle walls and flying units.
Adjusted NPC behavior so leaders do not recklessly advance to the front line while commanding artillery units.
Reduced the HP of artillery vehicles so they can be destroyed during prolonged artillery exchanges.
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue where failing a territory defense battle under certain conditions could result in a black screen and loss of player control.
Fixed a rare issue where time progression could stop if a siege occurred during domestic actions (such as agricultural development) and the player chose not to observe the battle.
Fixed an issue where confiscating territories from a vassal faction between the planning and execution of independence/rebellion could create a nation with no territories.
Fixed an issue where, if multiple factions shared the same name, an incorrect faction could be designated as the dynasty faction upon the creation of a new nation.
Fixed an issue where the “becoming best friends” event could be permanently skipped if a conversation was interrupted or the NPC’s impression was low at the time.
You can now become best friends later once the conditions are met.Added automatic repair for inconsistent faction territory data and prevented new inconsistencies from occurring.
Fixed issues where item and product filters did not work correctly in the Trading Post, Tool Shop, and Inventory screens.
Fixed an issue where the player’s banner and rank did not update after joining factions such as bandit groups through field conversations.
Fixed an issue where an incorrect message (“The order has been canceled due to changes in the situation.”) was shown when reporting completed orders at taverns.
Fixed an issue where repeatedly selecting “Spread a good/bad rumor” in tavern conversations could open multiple duplicate dialogs.
Fixed an issue where footstep sounds could continue playing after pausing during combat.
Updates
Added a feature that allows you to track and auto-move to an NPC.
You can start auto-movement by clicking an NPC on the map, or by clicking a character in the field.

[img src="{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45019907/333b056448a55448c6dbda0e0e2bfc1d7928e3f4.png"]
Balance Adjustments
Adjusted pregnancy likelihood when playing as a female character.
Adjusted so that when you accept a guild request for the first time, you will always obtain a hint when gathering information at the tavern.
Even if the informant has the “Lying” trait, they will provide the correct hint in this case only.In territory battles, adjusted bow attacks so that they can pierce certain objects, making it easier for arrows to reach enemies.
Bug Fixes

Also removed the rule that forcibly ended battles after 30 days.Fixed an issue in Trial of Love where the player could sometimes become the subjugation target.

Fixed an issue where, when inconsistencies occurred in diplomatic relationship data, an infinite loop could occur in in-game processing.
Fixed an issue where multiple instances of the same NPC could exist in the world.
Fixed an issue where dead NPCs could remain in territories.
Bug Fixes
When identical NPCs existed simultaneously in the world due to certain conditions, removing one of them could cause a crash.
This issue has been addressed so that the data can now be corrected without triggering a crash. The underlying cause of the bug that allows identical NPCs to exist simultaneously in the world is being investigated and will be resolved in a future update.
Added a feature that allows error logs to be sent when the game crashes.
If the following screen appears, we would greatly appreciate your cooperation by clicking the Send button.

If similar issues persist, please try lowering the graphics settings from the Options menu.
Updates
Revised the conditions under which target NPCs can be attacked in Subjugation Orders and the “Trial of Love” quest.
Target NPCs can now be attacked even when their morale is at 0 or while they are in a tavern.
When the target NPC belongs to a nation that is not at war, players can now challenge them to a duel in a tavern.
Implemented a Conversation Log feature.
By scrolling the mouse wheel up or down on the NPC conversation UI, players can now view previous dialogue.
Please note that conversation logs are not saved to the save data and only display conversations that occurred during the current session.

We recommend checking both for reference.
