About the Game
You are the Viceroy – a leader charged by the Scorched Queen to reclaim the wilderness and discover lost riches for the Smoldering City, civilization's last bastion against the Blightstorm that destroyed the old world. Unlike most survival city builders where your focus is on a single city, in Against the Storm you must build a vast, prosperous network of settlements populated by diverse fantasy races, each with their own specializations and needs.
The wilderness holds many hidden dangers, and never-ending storms will batter your population into submission. If your settlements should fall, then the expedition may end – but not the game. Against the Storm is a roguelite city builder, meaning you will carry forward the resources, upgrades, and experience of your past expeditions each time you set off for a new journey into the wild.

Foxes, beavers, and lizards stand alongside humans and harpies in the struggle to survive. Utilize each group's strengths as you balance their varying needs, from housing and culinary preferences to taste in luxuries and recreation. Will you manufacture raincoats, brew ale, and bake pies to boost morale in the face of the oppressive hostility of the forest, or will you prioritize the needs of one species over another to operate more swiftly for the Scorched Queen?
![]()
Experience core city builder gameplay enhanced by roguelite replayability. Build and manage multiple settlements spread out across a large world map, all while collecting valuable meta-progression resources to upgrade the Smoldering City. Feel the pressure of an expectant monarch as the Scorched Queen demands constant progress while recurring Blightstorms pose an inevitable threat to your settlements. Manage your reputation to secure your success at any one settlement before moving on to establish another, constantly seeking new opportunities for growth, taking on unique challenges across multiple biomes, and bracing for the inevitable destruction of everything but the Smoldering City itself. How will you maximize each cycle to not just ensure the best fate for the Smoldering City, but for your career as Viceroy as well?
![]()
With hundreds of gameplay modifiers and 6 distinct biomes, every city location presents unique challenges for even the most resourceful Viceroy. Adjust your strategy to changing weather conditions and experiment with rosters of building blueprints and perks that can help your society thrive or bring it to ruin. Will you take on and complete additional objectives and delve deeper into the dangerous forest for potential boons, or will you approach with caution to ensure you operate within your capabilities? All the while, you never know what wares the Trader will bring next year, and the forest holds treasures and resources, but also ancient threats.

Laying the foundations for a new city is one of the most exciting moments in a city-building game. In Against the Storm, you'll have the opportunity to repeatedly experience this by creating new settlements, while still interacting with your network of previously established cities in a growing world.

Greetings, Viceroys!
We’ve just released a tiny hotfix to address an issue that slipped past us after Friday’s 1.8.11 patch:
Fixed an issue where installing Commons would subtract 8 Planks for each constructed Hearth, which could result in players having negative Planks.
We’re grateful to you for bringing this to our attention and for making our day with your comments!

Greetings, Viceroys!
We released another small batch of fixes and improvements. We're extremely grateful for all your reports, especially for your patience and support as we were trying to reproduce the rare Fluffbeak freeze. Thank you!

Fixed a bug that caused the "Unassign Woodcutters" button to stop working when reassigning workers to camps with a Rainpunk Shredder.
This fix will take effect starting with your next settlement.
Shortened the "villager saved" alert in the Escaping the Shadows effect.
Fixed a bug where the Black Market popup wouldn't disappear when moving the building.
Bat buildings now correctly display the species icon in the in-game encyclopedia.
Fixed an issue where the Devastated Forest effect had a green frame instead of a red one.
Resolved a bug that made certain tiles inaccessible on some Coastal Grove maps.
Corrected a description inconsistency in the Scout's Toolbox perk.
Fixed a bug causing the Fluffbeak to stop at 100% instead of 99% when producing fertilizer beyond the limit.

Greetings, Viceroys!
We’re back with another hotfix to address issues you've brought to our attention since the Update 1.8 release.
Most importantly, we’ve identified and resolved the problem of prolonged loading times. We’re sorry for any inconvenience it may have caused. We haven’t experienced it before Update 1.8 went live, and it caught us by surprise just as much as it did you. We’re therefore very grateful for all your reports!
Changelog:
Fixed and improved loading times.
Our internal testing shows loading times now match or are even shorter than those from version 1.7.
Improved the UI scaling of the construction menu on ultra-wide monitors.
Fixed a bug that sometimes prevented the Cornerstone icon from disappearing from the HUD after selecting a Cornerstone.
This would sometimes lead to the game being paused indefinitely if an ephemeral cornerstone was offered. This should be fixed now as well.
Fixed a bug that caused the Tree Grazer to sometimes open more glades than intended.
Fixed a bug that caused the Riverlands modifier to sometimes fail to generate a proper map and display an error during loading.
Fixed a bug that caused the need orders to sometimes switch between "done" and "undone" for a split-second when need fulfillment changed at the last second.
Fixed a bug where the Hearth Resolve value in some need tooltips was obstructed by incorrectly scaled text in Simplified Chinese.
Fixed a bug that caused flame effects to disappear when mirroring certain decorations.
Fixed a bug that caused builders to misjudge the distance to local storage when deciding which building to construct.
Fixed a rare bug that caused empty map fields to sometimes appear as inaccessible after cancelling building placement.
Fixed a few typos in the Ukrainian version of the game (Aunt Lori, Seal Contracts).
Fixed a few typos in the Simplified Chinese version of the game (citadel resources upgrade, Stormbird Egg world event).
Fixed a few typos in the Japanese version of the game (Protected Trade, Plague of Fishmen).
Fixed a few typos in the French version of the game (species tooltips, Dedication, Book of Water).
Thank you once again for all your support. We wish you a great time with the game and hope you have a fantastic weekend.

Eremite Games

Greetings!
We’ve just released a hotfix addressing a couple of issues you’ve reported since the release of the latest update. We’re grateful for all your support, feedback, and reports!
Changelog:
Fixed a bug that caused minecarts to remain on the map after a mine was demolished.
Fixed a bug that prevented workplaces from appearing in the Smithy and Academy ruins.
Fixed a bug that caused some glade-dependent cornerstones to appear in games near the Riverlands modifier.
Fixed a bug that caused a phantom building with an unlocalized name to appear in the Recipes panel.
Important: If you experienced the rare Mine bug, your settlement save may be corrupted (you may not be able to load the game). If that is the case, please email us at [email protected] and include the zipped contents of the entire game saves folder. It’s located here:
%userprofile%\\appdata\\locallow\\Eremite Games
We’ll manually fix the file for you.
In the case of the Smithy/Academy bug, the ruins will be fixed in new settlements, but not in existing ones. Your save should overall be fine, though. If you want, we can also fix your save for you to enable these two ruins.
We deeply apologize for the inconvenience, and thank you for your understanding.
May the storm be gentle on you,
Eremite Games
Greetings, Viceroys!
We deployed a tiny hotfix to get rid of the remaining instances of the Ancient Seal panel issue that we described in the previous patch:
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1336490/view/509572974349648517
There are no other changes to report. Off we go to develop the next update!
May the storm be gentle on you,
Eremite Games
Greetings, Viceroys!
We’re here with another small patch that addresses some remaining issues from the recent Quality of Life Update (1.7). Thank you for bringing them to our attention!
- Fixed a bug that was causing some fertile soil exclusive orders to appear on non-fertile soil maps (and thus not have rewards because they were tied to farming).
- Fixed a bug where the Healing order would have one less reward in biomes without Insects. It now offers a different reward if it can't be generated with the Dye Extractor perk.
- Fixed a bug where the Quick Transaction order was missing a blueprint reward.
- Fixed a few other orders that could inadvertently exclude rewards (based on map or species conditions). They will now have alternative rewards for these cases.
- Fixed a bug where the Efficient Brewing perk was being sold by traders in games without Humans (because the Brewery is a species-locked building).
- Fixed a bug where unbuilt Big Shelters were sticking out of the ground a bit.
- Fixed a typo in the Polish version of the Prayer of Courage effect.
- Fixed a bug where the game would automatically unpause after selecting one of several Cornerstone choices.
- Fixed a bug where the production multiplier text in the production building UI was cut off if it was 10 or higher.
The current game version is 1.7.4.
We hope these fixes enhance your experience, and we wish you tons of fun with the game.
May the storm be gentle on you,
Eremite Games

- Fixed a bug that allowed the Queen's Gift cornerstone to appear in games without orders.
- Fixed a bug that caused the Zelous Scout order to appear in games without lizards.
- Fixed a bug that was displaying the wrong maximum Hearth level on the town stats screen.
- Fixed some typos in the French version of the game.
