Official update history
- Fixed bug where some European users were not getting offline earnings
- Fixed bug where alt-tab feeding stopped working
- You can now close the collection highlight menu
- Fixed a rendering incompatibility error which was causing the game to crash on older machines
- Fixed an issue where the Oarfish was not showing up. If you had any and played before this hotfix, they may be gone now unfortunately, sorry about that!
- Fixed a bug where the lights would refuse to change during the day
- Fixed an infinite money glitch where buying 100 golden pelagic dudes packs caused you to actually gain money instead of losing it
- Fixed bug where swap tank buttons still showed up on newly added fish.
There are still more things to fix, but these should be the most important, and I wanted to publish this ASAP since it was game breaking for those of you on older machines.
Thanks for your patience! Again, I'm just one guy, I appreciate y'all for bearing with me through any growing pains.
Best fishes,
-Ben
In the meantime, I tried to also address some of the common complaints I've noticed with the recent update.
Changes
- New fish-specific menu in collection with a cleaner interface for checking alt-painted variants (and also a 3D card shader effect stolen from a certain poker-based-roguelike).
- Performance improvements when adding and feeding fish, and navigating the tank menu and collection menu.
- Added an extra freshwater and saltwater tank for the living-dexers out there
- Added a mercy timer for mythics and painted mythics
- Added some new visual particle effects for rainbow cards and tweaked the mythics particle effect to be cooler and less obnoxious
- Large amounts of money are now abbreviated
- Costs in the shop are now obscured until you have reached a certain amount of money (so as not to spoil the surprise of "These cost *15 Quadrillion$!* etc.)
- The game now saves whether or not gold packs were selected in the shop
Bugfixes
- Fixed bug where offline income appeared to max out at 92 Quadrillion (this was actually just a visual bug, the real amount seemed to scale properly)
- Minor tank menu layout improvements
- "Equip" tank button removed from the shop because it was confusing
- Switch tank button no longer appears if there is no other valid tank
Happy fishing!
-Ben
UX Improvements
- The game now saves and creates a backup when it is closed via alt+f4 or the exit window button.
- Achievements now require all 26 fish rather than 25, which was confusing for a lot of people. (Don't worry, if you already had the achievement it will not be taken away!)
- Reduced volume when opening golden packs.
- Cards now warn you if the tank has the wrong water type.
- Card packs now display the water type they need in the shop.
- Scroll bars are now more prominent.
- Removed the sell fish hotkey because it was only ever pressed on accident.
- No longer need to wiggle the mouse to collect cards.
- Improved performance. This is just two words but it took a long time. Hopefully the game should be running more smoothly with full (and overfull, for the hackers out there) tanks!
Bugfixes
- Fixed bug where rare fish were much more prominent in golden packs.
- Fixed bug where golden cards would chime extremely loudly when the game was first opened.
Note About Tank Space
Conspicuously missing from this list is the addition of more tank space -- I realize this is very important to the folks who are trying to collect one of each fish and I want to add it, but things have been busy on my end and I want to implement a bit more involved of a change than just having an extra freshwater and saltwater tank. I am going to be out of town for a while, and I really wanted to get these UX improvements and bugfixes online ASAP rather than waiting until this was ready.
-Ben
- Fixed a bug where new achievements weren't updating if fish grew up while the game was closed
- Fixed a visual bug where fish with very high incomes displayed "Earning $0.01 per day"
- Added a manual rollback system that lets you revert your save file to a previous session in case of save file corruption.
- Older backups are sent to the system recycle bin rather than deleted completely.
- Fixed one more known issue that was leading to backup saves being corrupted.
My hope is that this update should kill save file corruptions for good, because even if something corrupting happens it will only mean that the previous session is lost rather than everything.
Just want to say a sincere apology to anyone who has lost their save file. This has been an issue that has plaguing the game since release, and every previous attempt I've made to fix it - as documented in the update patch note history- has reduced the number of occurrences but never eradicated them. In my opinion this kind of issue is unacceptable for a professional product, and it represents the growing-pains of me figuring out how to be a real developer instead of just a hobbyist.
Thanks again for bearing with me! My hope is that solidifying save file integrity will free up space for me to actually work on new content that adds to the game for everyone and makes it as good as possible.
Happy fishing!
-Ben
- Fixed a bug where Spring Pals achievements were not updating properly
- Added a framerate cap option
- New rainbow fish now display as silhouettes
- Updated schooling behavior for Spring Pals
- Fixed a bug where cards could get stuck on screen
I've been meaning to launch this update for a long time! Life has been very busy my way, as I've just gotten married and moved into a new house, but things are finally slowing down enough that I can get more dev time in!
Happy fishing,
-Ben
- Reduced strain on filesystem to combat save file corruption.
- Newly earned Mythics now display properly in the popup.
- Reset Data UI is improved. Resetting save file now starts the tutorial again, so the quest money can be earned.
- Fixed a bug where an additional controller being plugged in could cause the menu screen animation to loop, rendering the game unplayable.
