About the Game
On September 21, 1986, two priests arrived at the Martin Family home in rural Connecticut to investigate an apparent case of demonic possession. Only two people would leave alive.
FAITH is a pixel horror game inspired by classic 8-bit gaming and the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980s. Use your holy crucifix to perform exorcisms, fight back against possessed cultists and cleanse haunted objects. Discover a world of dread, isolation, and mystery as you explore desolate forests, abandoned churches, and the inner sanctums of a Satanic cult.

GENERAL
- Added Japanese language localization (text and voices). Language options can be changed in the Main Menu
- Game audiogroups have been significantly optimized to improve loading times and lower overall file size
- Cutscene skipping is now done by holding down B button or ENTER key
- Modified certain title/intro sequences so that they can only be skipped by holding down B button or ENTER key
- Fixed issues related to skipping cutscenes (game event flags weren’t changing after skipping)
- Addressed bugs where skipping certain cutscenes would activate the “auto cross” glitch
- Fixed bugs where loading a save would activate the “auto cross” glitch
- Optimized texture pages for all 3 chapters
- Turbo is deactivated in pause menus

CHAPTER I
- Fixed bug where “heartbeat” controller rumble effect made the controller rumble non-stop if player changed screens

- (Flashlight/Lantern Modes) Flashlight/lantern modes activate once John gets out of his car
CHAPTER II
- Fixed code handling saving/loading that was preventing audiogroups from loading properly
- Fixed draw depth issues with Thrall enemies
- Audiogroup for Garcia’s apartment now loads in properly upon starting a new game
- Fixed behavior where Spindly Lady was spawning right on top of John before rushing him
- Fixed bugs related to the demon hand not being able to grab the child in front of the confession booth in the church
- Fixed softlock in church basement where John would get stuck if going back into the clock symbols puzzle from the “Mother of Demons” room
- Adjusted position of Blind One enemy to not be right on top of John when he re-enters Blind Ones room after getting the key in Sanctum
- Fixed softlock in Sanctum where player could get stuck re-entering the Blind Ones room after getting the key
- Fixed audio glitch during first Miriam cutscene in Sanctum
- Fixed bug related to extra pause menu handler obj spawning at the start of Miriam boss fight

CHAPTER III
- John’s cross is now the proper color during certain flashback sequences
DAY 1 - Skipping the intro cutscene of John and Allred in the car now properly stops any voice line playback
- Player can no longer get stuck inside John’s gurney when getting saved by rent-a-cop or returning to the Clinic basement
- “Get back on?” trigger for John’s gurney now much easier to activate
- Bug where players would get stuck between the two Clinic basement rooms and/or between the Mommy boss room and the hallway before it is, now and forever, assuredly, eternally, and irrevocably fixed (real) (not fake)
DAY 2 - Player can now press B button or Escape key to exit elevator “Which floor?” prompt
- Elevator Friend’s breathing/aggro/fleeing cries will interrupt each other instead of overlapping
- Controller rumble stops when screen goes black during the “Alu possession” cutscene
- Pressing a floor button that you're already on does not reset the Elevator Game sequence, only new floors that are out-of-sequence
- Elevator Woman spawning now resets if player resets the Elevator Game
- Changed chance of Elevator Woman spawning to 50% (see her lore on the web)
- Game no longer spams you with loud “carswerve” sfx when Elevator Woman attacks player
- Fixed bug where Tiffany would fly far off-screen during her DVD logo bouncing attack and take forever to get back
- Fixed bugs related to the background music tracks playing/not playing when they’re supposed to after loading saves and/or defeating Tiffany
DAY 3 - Removed stole from Father Allred’s sprite in Flashback 4
- Daycare music will restart if player exits Garyland before getting locked in
- Exiting Garyland before getting locked in will no longer reset the moon/chalice/bird/star puzzle
- Big Demon Head can no longer warp John to the Asylum area if John collides with it while it’s in its “dying” state
- Moloch chains sfx playback now stops properly when exiting Moloch room
- Lantern no longer respawns if John collects it, leaves the room, and returns to the room it originally spawns in
- Fixed softlock related to skipping the “seal breaking” cutscene while progressing through Nowhere Forest
- Removed code resetting cross “active” state during Astaroth boss fight
- Changed pathetic groveling simp Gary’s sprite draw depth during “Amy…Amy mea…” cutscene to look better
- Ending 3 audiogroup now loads properly when starting that sequence
- Opening the locked door in John’s house no longer takes the key out of the inventory
- Fixed visual bug where “fade from black” effect wasn’t displaying properly in cutscene of John kneeling before Amy
SURVIVAL:
- “Fight it, John” prompt now works as intended in Lisa/Alu room
- Fixed stray black pixels that appear on top of John when he exits the second Peekaboo room
- Fixed draw depth of chain link fence at top of the screen just before Tiffany’s room
NO DEMONS WORLD:
- Fixed mis-matched audio and text for some of John’s dialogue lines
KNOWN ISSUES:
- Possible compatibility issues with some directInput controllers
- Possible control issues when Steam Input is enabled
- Possible issue with bluetooth 8BitDo controllers while playing on Steam Deck (updating controller firmware appears to have fixed issue)
- Background music track issues may persist when loading saves during the latter part of the Apartments area
- Rare instances where game manually disables cross “active” state (mostly during certain boss fights) - if you’re a speedrunner you likely already know where these instances are
- John is still able to collect the Chapter II cemetery key, summon and defeat Pentarox, re-enter the Save Family tomb, collect the key again, and re-summon Pentarox indefinitely (does not appear to cause game-breaking issues also it’s funny)

Skippable Cutscenes: Players can now hold down the space bar or the action button on their gamepad to skip virtually all rotoscoped cutscenes and most in-game conversations, making it easier to get back into boss fights, attempt speedruns, re-attempt Good Christian Boy achievement, etc.

More Consistent Demon Combat: Previously the game would manually turn off John’s cross at certain points during certain boss battles, requiring the player to un-press the space bar/action button and use the cross again. This was mostly during transitions between bosses’ various phases and was meant to encourage adaptive, strategic play. However it’s clear that players were just left confused why their cross stopped randomly working while holding the cross up, leading to frustration. This should make boss battles like Amy and Miriam (especially when it comes to keeping Father Garcia alive) a little easier

Audio and Texture Optimization: Duplicate/unnecessary audio files and texture images were removed. Some very large sprite images were downsized to fit better in texture pages. Players should get faster loading times for “hymns” during the bootup sequence and less delay when the game loads certain texture pages
Skippable Long Notes: Players can press space bar/action button to skip to the bottom of long notes if they don’t feel like scrolling through them
Go Back With Esc/B Button: Player can now press B on the gamepad (or esc on the keyboard) to instantly go back a screen when navigating menus
STRETCH-O-RAMA Now Fits Retro Monitors: Fullscreen Stretch-o-rama now properly “fills” your display, whether it’s 4:3, 5:4 or ultrawide

DirectInput Gamepad Functionality: Added limited functionality for PlayStation DualSense and other dinput-style gamepads. Please note that rumble probably won’t work with these gamepads (it’s a GameMaker issue) and some buttons that the game doesn’t use might have unpredictable in-game effects
Flashlight Visibility Adjustment: John’s sprite is now a little easier to see when using the flashlight!
New animated cutscene: A brief animated cutscene has been added to one of the flashback sequences

Chapter 1:
- Fixed “nasus” text overlapping with dark gray informative text at the bottom of the pause menu
Chapter 2:
- Fixed bug that causes the controller to rumble continuously during the secret ending cutscene of Chapter II Prologue
- Fixed bug that, in some cases, spawned an extra instance of the cross’ “holy” volume at the start of Chapter 2, resulting in the cross being twice as powerful as it should be throughout the Chapter
- Fixed bug that starts John out with the “auto-cross” glitch when loading their game at certain points of Chapter 2
- Fixed bug that made the Cemetery maze not resolve even after the player walked the correct path
- Fixed bug that didn’t properly save the “last room” global variable to the Chapter 2 save file
- Fixed bug in the Church that caused the controller to rumble continuously until the player pauses the game
- If Miriam morphs into a larger size in phase 1 of her boss fight, she will stay that way in phases 2 and 3
- Fixed coding error that checked for Chapter 1 ending 2 instead of Chapter 2 ending 2 when calculating the total number of Chapter 2 endings that the player has reached

- Fixed bug where the game background changes to “Sutexii” when starting Chapter 3
- Fixed bug where John could walk behind the walls in Mother boss’ room
- Candles found throughout the apartment complex no longer appear lit when the player is supposed to be in total darkness (basement, camera sequence)
- Lisa no longer appears “damaged” while running away from the Alu boss fight room
- (Flashback 3) Fixed the color of John’s cross as it appears in the master bedroom mirror
- Entering the moon/chalice/bird/star puzzle room in the Daycare no longer resets the music if the music is currently playing
- Fixed draw depth bug when the chairs in the Garyland chair puzzle change position
- Fixed bug where Garyland audio files don’t load after the chair puzzle and completing Flashback 4
- Fixed Moloch room bug where the flame that appears in one hand after sacrificing a key will jump to the other hand if you exit and re-enter the room
- (Ending 2) Blood rain no longer appears in front of dialogue text boxes during certain cutscenes
- (Ending 3) Lightning flashes coming through through the windows of John’s house no longer stay permanently after quitting/dying and re-loading during the home invasion sequence
Survival:
- John can no longer walk through the east and west walls in Amy’s (boss) room
- Fixed second Basement Demon fight where it was warping outside of the room boundaries during its “YOU CAN’T CATCH ME” phase
- Draw depth of giant gore pile outside of Tiffany’s fight now works properly
- Fixed bug where John could get stuck in a wall when moving from one Jeffrey room to the next
- Fixed visual and scripting bugs with the 3 “plagas” cultists when they are all running around trying to grab John with their tentacles
- Fixed bug where John’s “extra chances” during the Super Miriam fight would not reset to their full amount after dying and re-starting the fight
- Game now correctly keeps track of demons defeated (if any) during “Demoned” mode. Note that enemies that spawn indefinitely like Miriam’s thralls and the Malphas Acolytes will not count towards your demons defeated stat
Misc:
- Added code properly shutting down Steam API functionality when the game ends
- Game now properly remembers the window size when switching from fullscreen to windowed
- Fixed certain backgrounds showing tiny white/green lines on the outer edges on some screens
Adjustments
Chapter 1:
- If John dies to Amy during her first phase, they no longer have to hear their entire conversation again to restart the fight. Rather, they re-spawn at “SHE IS MINE, PRIEST”
- The GWOB (gun with one bullet) now correctly displays in the pause menu
- New save point added just before John grabs the gun and shoots the mirror a third and final time
- Added audio cues for the house front door and attic door opening
Chapter 2:
- Church music now pauses during Spindly Lady fight
- If Rumble is enabled, the controller will now vibrate with each stab during Thrall stabbing cutscenes
- Pausing is now enabled during cutscene of John melting
- Added water drips to pipes in the Candy Tunnel
- Added heartbeat-style controller vibrations (if Rumble is enabled) when Peekaboo is close to John in the Candy Tunnel
- Toned down how much the gamepad vibrates during Miriam’s boss battle when she sneaks up behind you in her second phase
Chapter 3:
- In the sequence where John is strapped to the gurney in the Clinic, it is now super obvious which curtain the player is supposed to hide behind
- The wait time to get the Clinic secret basement door to open has been reduced by half
- New save points added after John cleanses the ritual knife/ritual mask
- In the Lisa/Alu boss fight, Alu has slightly less influence over John if he possesses him and tries to get him to kill Lisa
- New audio cue plays if John successfully completes the steps needed to enter the Unseen World in the Apartments
- Bob Martin can now be repelled with the cross when he appears in the master bedroom mirror in a certain flashback
- Father Allred’s stole is added to the “opening the door” cutscene and it can now be found a short distance away from his body during a certain flashback sequence
- Adjusted speed of “Plagas” cultists from Garyland/outside the Crucible when they rush John’s position or try to get to either side of him to be a little slower
- (Ending 3) During the home invasion sequence, John must retrieve the item from the basement before he can leave out the front door
Survival:
- “Are you sure” prompt now appears when starting a new Survival run
- Improvements to how ranks are calculated
- Big arcade-style flashing arrows now point John in the right direction after certain boss encounters
Misc:
- The game window no longer constantly re-positions itself to the top-left corner of the screen during play
- Slowed down the rate at which the player can scroll through menus when holding down gamepad analog sticks
- It is now much easier for the player to toggle Chapter I Flashlight/Lantern modes on/off
- The borders of “closer look” images like the Michael polaroids and Clinic ultrasounds are now solid, matching the borders of dialogue text
- Added controller rumble for each stab of the “Thrall attack” cutscene
- Enabling/disabling demons can now only be done from the main menu configs screen (not from the pause menu)
- Screen says “end of chapter” instead of “game over” at the conclusion of Chapters I and II
- If the player has controller rumble enabled, cleansing objects will rumble the controller a bit when the little ghost thingy pops up
- Text of John’s comment about “fresh cheeseburgers” now matches the audio
- Improved the “Invertis” screen effect to more accurately represent inverted colors
- Added a tiny disclaimer to the game credits

FEATURING... SURVIVAL MODE, A SPECIAL "NO DEMONS" MODE for people who have gotten the hardest achievement in the game and MORE:
- That's right, there's a special play mode with new art and music that is available for players who have earned the 'GOOD CHRISTIAN BOY' achievement and you can now also disable demons from the Options menu. Finally a video game achievement that's as rewarding as going to church!
- SURVIVAL MODE is available after finding the good endings in Chapters I/II/III and finishing the Chapter 2 Prologue. Fight your way through a brand new environment encountering every demon we can throw at you. Finishing a Survival run earns you one of ten ranks!
- We've added FOUR new animated cutscenes. Wowza.
- There's a new unlockable background by @DragonRoIlZ

- Game window remembers the window size % when enabling/disabling full screen
- Numerous fixes for issues related to cultists that transform into hideous tentacle creatures, particularly in rooms with multiple instances of these enemies
- Fixed moments where controller rumble won’t stop rumbling (rumbling can always be canceled by pausing)
- Pausing the game while in Turbo mode returns the game to normal speed to make menu navigation easier
[Gameplay Adjustments]
- Quitting the game now takes you to the Airdorf Games splash screen instead of putting you through the “bootup”/”LOADING HYMNS” screen again
- Reduced Alu boss’ hp by 25%
- Slightly reduced hp and movement speed of the secret DUSK enemy in Garyland
- (Survival only) Gary’s RAIN OF SPIDERS attack has a ⅛ chance of reading “AUSTRALIA”

- Replaced code that executes only while certain audio assets are playing with code dependent on a runtime timer. This may help players with under-performing computers to avoid softlocks, bugs, etc. resulting from audio files not being loaded and played on cue.
- Implemented controller rumble across all three Chapters. Added new moments where the controller may rumble
- Achievements and unlockables can now be activated without Steam overlay needing to be enabled
- Draw order of text boxes versus "closer look" boxes has been fixed
- Fixed bugs where John could move around behind cutscenes as they play, potentially resulting in John wandering off-screen or warping to a screen he isn't supposed to
- Fixed bug where rapidly switching between values for "WINDOW SIZE" in configs causes window resizing to not work properly
- Cleaned up audio assets that were pre-loaded to and streaming from the game directory

Chapter I
- Re-instated Michael jumpscare when attempting to pause the game when he is onscreen and aggro'd
- Michael "kill screen" cinematic now plays if Michael kills John at the end of the chapter
- Fixed bug where John could shoot the mirror from the side and never get gotten by the mirror demon
Chapter II
- Fixed Garcia's animations during phase 3 of the final boss fight
- Fixed crash that sometimes happens when moving Garcia back up the basement stairs in the intro sequence
- Fixed crashes resulting from thralls getting confused about their intended target after killing Garcia during the Miriam boss battle
- Fixed crash resulting from waiting in the darkness and not doing anything after Garcia attempts to exorcise Michael in the intro sequence
- The mist clouds in the cemetery now disappear for good after beating the Mist Demon
Chapter III
- Added a new spooky animated cutscene
- Fixed some existing cutscenes that used the wrong colors, had small graphical errors, etc.
- Fixed bug where the torches during the final boss fight may not serve their intended function
- Fixed bug where the camera flash wasn't working properly on slower computers (note: if your computer falls below the minimum specifications you may still run into this issue)
- Fixed crash after colliding with certain objects while strapped to the gurney
- Fixed crash resulting from leaving the room with Timmy's corpse without collecting his note
- Fixed crash after the outro cinematic showing the elevator after the apartments
- Fixed typo during flashback sequences
- Fixed bug where John can trigger the secret boss area cutscene by going one screen north instead of going to the door
