Official update history
Hello Shipbreakers,
Last year we announced that we had re-acquired full ownership of the Hardspace: Shipbreaker IP and would be taking over publishing responsibilities from its previous publisher, Focus Entertainment.
Today, we have published a very small update (patch 1.3.0.1263554) that contains purely cosmetic changes to reflect this change in publishing and IP ownership.
Here is a brief summary of what has changed in patch 1.3.0.1263554
Removed and/or modified branding, logos, and legal small print on splash screens when the game first starts.
Adjusted data collection notices.
Updated developer and publisher credits.
Patched the Unity engine version used to create Hardspace: Shipbreaker to address a possible security vulnerability present in older versions of the Unity engine.
We also want to take a moment to thank our wonderful community. Since announcing we acquired full ownership of the Hardspace: Shipbreaker IP last year, the outpouring of love and support has been incredible.
We also understand how eager you are to learn more about those Hardspace projects we confirmed in our original announcement. Our teams are hard at work and cannot wait to reveal more when the time is right. We appreciate your patience and understanding!
Sincerely,
\Steven
In-Game Update
We at Lynx are happy to announce the latest iteration of our Everwork Program firmware. This firmware patch makes new spares 0.12% more resistant to excessive caffeine intake, which in our calculations will reduce caffeine related workspace incidents by at least 0.0009%*.
Additionally new accessibility options have been included on all Lynx proprietary helmet visors, which will lead to an estimated 0.092% increase in worker efficiency.
*To offset the incurred cost of the new firmware upgrade, Lynx is increasing the fee for Caffeine Capsules by a mere 256%, any additional company income relating to this price increase will be invested in further genetic R&D.

New Element: Radiation
This update introduces a new element into the mix of hazards players can encounter in the salvage yard: Radiation. We’ve planned on including radiation for a long time now, as an appropriate staple of any good space game. Players can encounter Radiation Filters in ships with Hazard Level 6 and above, starting at Certification Rank 9.
Radiation Filters appear in wall-sized Containment Units, and can be extracted from the ship’s interior or the crawl space. Filters are extremely fragile; even small bumps and damage can cause them to drop a cloud of Radioactive Particulate, which damages organic matter and electronics upon contact. If a cloud comes into contact with fire or heat (such as, say, the beam of your cutter) it will agitate the particulate cloud, making it more dangerous for a short period of time. The clouds expand slowly over time, meaning they are best dealt with early. They can be neutralized with coolant (though chucking a coolant tank at one can be a dangerous maneuver itself), otherwise they dissipate naturally over a very long period of time.
Our goal with this element was to create spatial challenges through it’s placement, and to have players think on their feet and adjust their path through a ship depending on changing circumstances. We also wanted to create an element that did not have a binary state of catastrophic failure or perfect salvage, and provide more of an escalation of danger.
Rad!
HAB Screen Updates
As a follow-up from the previous update which saw an overhaul of the entire HUD screen for the game, 0.5.0 now continues this work with an overhaul of the HAB screens. A lot of the UI overhauls play into other features we are working on at the moment for future updates, so we aim to unify the style of the UI across the board and improve usability flows, especially for screens with a lot of information. We’re also preparing these screens for integration into the 3D HAB scene in a future update.
Pretty!
Weekly R.A.C.E Update
We are interested in trying out a new cadence for the Weekly R.A.C.E by renaming it to Cutter’s Challenge and making it a daily race instead. This is an experimental change and we’d like to hear feedback from the racer community about this cadence!
Rad!
Sticker Collection V2
The 0.5.0 update comes with a small update to our sticker collection, introducing Sticker Collection v2! Most Stickers now have a Holographic variant that can be unlocked by collecting a certain amount of a regular sticker and then upgrading it to the Holographic version.
Pretty AND Rad!
Javelin Improvements
With our changes to the flow of the campaign and the progression system, we are closely listening to player feedback. Aside from tweaking the pace of tool updates and speed of progression as part of the Early Access process, we are looking to give all of our existing ship classes a pass as well. In the previous update we made a ton of gameplay improvements to the Mackerel ships, and in this update we started improvements on the Javelins.
Our goal was to include a lot of quality of life improvements on salvaging of a Javelin, making them easier to understand in the earlier stages of the game and reserving complexity for the higher hazard levels. We mainly made changes to the way earlier Javelin Rings are salvaged to provide a smoother transition from Mackerel ships into larger ships. We have removed some cut points we have deemed unnecessary, simplified and clarified the way the rings and interior is meant to be approached, and reduced the amount of cargo crates that can spawn on the outside of Javelins.
Rad(ial!)
As always, we also addressed some smaller bugs and quality of life concerns with the game and progression flow, as well as working on crashes and performance improvements.
One major fix: The game should no longer crash when throwing large, complex salvage into the furnace!
Please continue to share your thoughts and feelings on the update with us, your feedback is invaluable to our work. The best place to engage with us is through our Discord, but we also read Steam forums and reviews.
Have fun out there, and we’ll see you in the yard!

Hello Cutters!
Today we released a hotfix for version 0.2.0. This fix addresses two very important stability issues:
- A very common crash that mostly occurs when putting a Mackerel's inner frame or airlock into the furnace
- A common physics bug that would cause objects to become physically unstable and uncontrollable when disjointed from a surface with the grapple
We know how frustrating it is to meticulously peel the entire outer-hull of the Mackerel off, carefully extract every component, and safely defuse the reactor, only to then toss the Mackerel's inner frame into the furnace and instantly crash. That sucks during any shift, but it's especially bad when competing for a high score on the Weekly R.A.C.E.
Likewise, clearing a path through the crawlspace and then trying to detach a Fuel Tank, only to have it jump erratically around and immediately explode, creating a chain reaction that sets off the reactor and nukes half the ship.. also really sucks!
In our testing, this hotfix resolves both those issues.
We mentioned in our last dev video, and in last week's post about common issues, that the team is about to take a much needed two-week break. We felt that it was important to try and fix these two issues before we go, as they were impacting a lot of people’s play experience.
We wish we could fix all the issues in the game! We acknowledge many of you are seeing issues unrelated to the two above. These were just the issues that were the most common and which we were in the best position to address in a hotfix before we go.
Thank you all again for your patience and support! We look forward to coming back in two weeks and seeing what everyone has been up to, who made it to the top of the R.A.C.E. leaderboards, and who has the latest best time for salvaging a Gecko reactor unscathed!
Until then, keep reaching for the stars! But make sure to still pay your daily fees on time.
Thanks,
Blackbird Interactive

Bugs
- Stomped several nasty crashes
- Squashed over 120 pesky bugs. Details below.
Please note that Class II Reactors now rely on the Coolant provided by the Environmental Control Unit (ECU). Trying to pull the Reactor while the ECU is still providing Coolant will cause a Coolant explosion at the base of the Reactor. Salvaging the ECU beforehand will give the Reactor more integrity, but will also begin the Reactor's meltdown sequence.
We are constantly working on improving the game and bettering your daily life at Lynx Corp. Check out what’s coming next for Hardspace: Shipbreaker! Join us on our discord to meet and chat with our dev team!
Best regards,
LYNX HR

- Hab touch up and text formatting accross multiple screens.
- Localized the equipment select buttons.
- Fixes GameOverScreen being all weird on last death.
- Block push action when interaction prompts are on screen.
- Fixing padding on hab narrative devices.
- Updated Font Atlas to include the censored grapple upgrade text.
Design
- Implementing double and tripple chair layouts for the Commercial Transport Gecko.
- Chairs were too inconvenient to remove so all chairs are now easier to yank.
- Corrected an issue where pink lights could spawn in the Mackerel.
- Correcting structure parts on Gecko Nose rails.
- Tuning the current airlock door LODs so they're MUCH less aggressive.
- Reducing Rank 2 Quota Requirement from 8 Work Order Objectives to 4. This should ensure the player is rank 3 when they are asked to purchase the Tethers.
- Removing all LODing whatsoever from the exterior cut points and chassis from the first tutorial ship.
- Adding some screens to the cockpit of the Gecko.
- The Waste Disposal Unit's fume chute no longer joints to the vent panel.
- Adding a generic large audio material asset to SP_Mat_Static.
- Made the Twin Nacelles in Tutorial Ship B spawn away from the ship.
- Added carats to the Twin Nacelles.
- Blocked Cutter use from the start of the Place Tether objective until the start of the Salvage Reactor and Nanocarbon objective during the Tutorial Ship B.
- Added a tutorial tooltip to indicate the cutter has been disabled.
- Blocked Interact after presurizzing the airlock until the start of the atmosphere regulator objective.
- Corrected a very slight placement issue that could cause the vent plates of Waste Disposal Units to become stuck. It was technically correct in its original position, but the slightly adjusted position makes removal much easier.
- Removed cut pins and modified the Structure parts / jointing types of the walkways in the Industrial Cargo Gecko. This was done after feedback that they clamps did nothing and cluttered the scanner. They did have a use, but didn't contribute meaningfully to gameplay, and looked a bit naff so they were removed. Now it takes 3 splitsaw cuts to free the walkway.
- Moderate change for the cross beams at the top of the Mackerel. The beams are now more centered, save for when they spawn from a cargo ship, which has one beam that spawns in its old position.
- Walkways are no longer sealing. This should (ideally) solve the problem of weird airlock interactions when cutting walkways in the Cargo Gecko.
- The Kiosk now sells Utility Kits and is easily set up to sell Med Kits.
- Corrected a minor issue where cut points on the rail gides of the Industrial Cargo Gecko would read as needing to go onto the barge. This was incorrect, and now they properly read as not going anywhere.
- Corrected an issue where a small part of a rail guide spawn in the Industrial Cargo Gecko could spawn unjointed to the rest of the rail.
- Pipe Junction boxes now joint to Panel Ext.
- Corrected several outdated Mackerel Nacelle prefabs (the ones that housed the fuel canisters) that were using unlinked prefab instances. This would cause them to not recieve texture / gameplay updates other pipes would get.
- Slight overhaul of the Mackerel Nacelle prefabs to now end in pipe junction boxes, so they can properly joint to the tail of the Mackerel.
- Minor overhaul of all disabling functions for doors. There seemed to be situations which disconnected door handles could still be interacted with.
- Some investigation into getting Power Junction boxes to stop electrocuting if they are no longer recieving power.
- Several positioning fixes with Easy difficulty Nacelles (including the Tutorial Nacelles) to eliminate both clipping forward into vents, and not quite visuall connecting to cut points.
- Adjusted the flow physics on the barge. Should fix an issue where objects that miss an occupied barge cube hit the barge and get smashed. It will not however, fix your aim. For that I would advise you git gud.
Audio
- Added profile deletion SFX to FE.
- Adjusted panning of the ship purchase sound.
- Adjusted panning of the HAB decrypt sfx.

- Data drive audio now plays when Back/Work Order button is held.
- Fixed bug where audio deletion audio would sometimes not play on subsequent attempts.
- Fix for 7.1 audio crash.
- Removed processor and furnace volume from prefab that is no longer using them. This was causing double audio for the processor.
- Set up environmental audio on waste disposal pipes, wire railings, sensor towers.
- Set up environmental audio on sensor array.
- Specified what objects play thruster flushing sfx depending on the ship.
- Added Fuel X environment audio to the Hard Mackerel reactor pipe.
- Adjusted high end on scanner background noise.
- Adjusted high end on scanner background noise.
- Adjusted ducker_scanner level on radio music.
- Removed room verb from all scanner sfx.
