About the Game
The ultimate test of trust and betrayal: do your friends have your back or will they leave you bleeding in the snow? Project Winter is an 8-person multiplayer game of survival and social deception, where cooperation is essential, but betrayal is inevitable.
Stranded in the frozen wilderness, survivors must gather resources, repair objectives, and fight the elements to escape. But hidden among them are traitors working together to sabotage, mislead, and eliminate their so-called allies.
Project Winter 2.0: Cabin Fever introduces a faster, more streamlined experience that keeps the paranoia and chaos alive while making it easier than ever for new players to jump in. For seasoned players, the punishing Classic mode remains - demanding coordination, grit, and sharp instincts to survive.
No two matches are ever the same. Whether you’re chopping firewood with allies, whispering over secret radios as a traitor, or panicking when a sudden blizzard forces everyone together, the tension builds with every decision.
PROJECT WINTER ROLES
Survivor
As a survivor you will have to complete a series of objectives in order to call in one of several rescue vehicles and escape to win the game.
Repair all the objectives to restore the cabin radio to working order.
Break rocks, harvest berries and herbs, and cut down trees to earn crafting materials used to repair objectives, and help keep you alive.
Explore crates found in the buildings scattered throughout the map which contain items that will help you survive and complete your objectives.
Traitor
As a traitor your goal is to stop the survivors from escaping without being identified or killed.
All of your teammates will be revealed to you at the start of the match and can be identified by a red traitor symbol, much like yours. You will start with a red radio to communicate with your fellow traitor.
Use traitor crates and hatches scattered throughout the map to gain advantage against survivors.
FEATURES
Teamwork & Survival: Survivors can’t make it alone. Work together to endure the cold, complete objectives, and fend off wildlife.
Betrayal & Deception: Traitors blend in, gain trust, and then strike when the moment is right. Anyone could be the enemy!
Communication: Proximity voice, radio channels, text chat, and emotes keep every interaction charged with suspicion.
Multiple Modes: Choose between streamlined Cabin Fever, unforgiving Classic, or customize your own rules for the perfect dose of paranoia.
Cosmetics & Progression: Unlock stylish looks and personalize your character with cosmetics available in our in-game store, progression trees, or in-game drops.
Can you trust your friends long enough to survive? Or will you be the reason no one makes it out alive?

Official update history
We’re thrilled to announce that our Store & UI Update is finally live and ready to download. Let’s get into it.
Message from The Dev Team!
First off, we would like to thank you for your patience while we worked to get this update out the door. We also want to acknowledge the delay and be transparent about what the team has been focused on over the last several months.
While this update may not seem gameplay-heavy on the surface, a huge amount of work went into rebuilding and improving the framework that powers our UI, store rotations, and related systems. These changes will allow us to manage and support the game much more effectively moving forward.
So... What's Changed?
UI Overhaul
We’ve updated the UI to simplify onboarding for new players and better organize menus and navigation. Major changes include:
DROPS have been moved from the top navigation bar to the CHARACTER tab.
The STORE page has been completely redesigned. More details below!
Drops / Crates
As most players know, we discontinued the weekly social-rating crate/drop system effective November 30 in preparation for this update. With this release, you will still be able to open any existing crates or drops already in your inventory, but you will no longer be able to purchase new ones.
If you experience any issues opening existing drops, please open a support ticket in our Discord and include your Player ID along with the crate/drop you’re having trouble with.
Store
The Store overhaul is the biggest change included in this update.
Previously, store rotations were handled entirely manually. A member of the dev team would need to select cosmetics, locate internal codes, configure pricing and rotation dates, group related cosmetics together, and coordinate promotional imagery. The process was time-consuming and prone to human error.
This system has now been fully automated.
The new Store features two rotating sections: Starter Packs and Artifact Packs. Each section will typically contain around five bundles purchasable using either SP or AP. Bundles are now clearly named to better communicate the types of cosmetics included, and players can preview all individual cosmetics within each bundle before purchasing.
We’ve also adjusted bundle pricing to make cosmetics more affordable overall, and store rotations will now update automatically on a weekly basis.
Throwing Mechanic
We are aware the throwing mechanic is a "hot topic" amongst players and we are actively trying to find the "sweet spot" between what the players are asking for and what the Dev team has envisioned for Project Winter. As part of this update, we have made some changes to the throwing velocity and how throwing in-game works. If you are still not satisfied with the throwing mechanic after this update, we would love to hear your feedback in our Steam Discussion area or on our Discord.

Cabin Fever delivers the same chaotic multiplayer mayhem players can find in the existing Project Winter Classic game mode - now with new features and with a more streamlined and intense experience. It’s an incredible opportunity to try Cabin Fever for the first time, or to pop back in and experience the best version of Project Winter yet!

NEW FEATURES
Traitor Abilities: We added the ability for the crafting table and chest in the Cabin to be poisoned.
New Item: Disintegrator! Traitors can now craft a new item called the Disintegrator with traitor credits and either use it on the objective or attach it to another player. When a player uses a disintegrator on the objective or a player who has a disintegrator attached to them interacts with the objective, a random amount (within a small range) of resources in the objective are destroyed.
BALANCING / IMPROVEMENTS
We adjusted the Traitor Crate loot tables and increased the cost of opening bunkers.
To address some player concerns regarding objective messaging, we have updated our UI to include the objective resources needed and the current completion percentage of the objective.
When items are dropped, they will no longer roll around and instead will immediately transition to their pickupable state as soon as they hit the ground.
When players are moving items between inventories and containers, moving an item outside of the container and inventory UI drops that item on the ground.
To better communicate how to do charge attacks, players will now see a tooltip providing guidance on how to charge their attack.
When players are experiencing a cold effect (e.g. when a blizzard hits), we have added an icy vignette to better message that players are being affected by the cold.
BUG FIXES
We made several fixes / changes to address issues where some players were getting disconnected from the game.
We fixed an issue where a bear that should have been present in the Upirngivik tile was missing. He is now ready to chase and kill any who come close!
We fixed an issue where the pickup timer for ghost players wasn’t displaying.
Fixed an issue where players would sometimes see their fist clipping into their own heads when attempting to punch.
COSMETICS
This patch includes changes to support new cosmetics.

NEW FEATURES
GONDOLA IS BACK!
We re-added the Gondola map into the regular rotation on Normal game mode.
HOST MAP SELECTION!
Lobby hosts can now select which map they would like to play.
ROLE SCREEN
While loading into a lobby, you will now see text that tells you your role prior to spawning in the cabin.
BUG FIXES
Fixed an issue where Fox and Wolf skin capes were slipping on larger model players
Fixed a few issues with navigating on various supported controllers.
Fixed some translation issues that were present in Greek.
COSMETICS & PROGRESSION TREES
This patch includes changes to support new cosmetics and progression tree(s).

NEW FEATURES
New Map: Sakura
This update includes a new map called “Sakura”. Sakura is a standard map featuring Sakura grasslands. It is playable in both Normal and Custom game modes.
BALANCING / IMPROVEMENTS
- Removed Ally role from normal game modes; this is now only playable in Customs.
- Removed Wild Spirit from normal game modes; this can now only be enabled in Customs.
- We added a weight system to our map rotations, so you’re temporarily more likely to see the new map, Sakura, over older maps.
COSMETICS
This patch includes changes to support new cosmetics, releasing on June 1.
