Stormworks: Build and Rescue is a rich and dramatic physics playground. Take your custom-designed, block-based and programmable vehicles into fierce oceanic storms. Plan and execute thrilling rescues in a variety of challenging crisis scenarios. Export and share your meticulously designed vehicles and missions with other players via the Steam workshop.

Custom Creative Mode
Play the game how you want. Custom mode gives dozens of creative tools and options, suited for players who like to let their creativity run free and wild. In this mode, you are not limited by the survival and realism rules allowing you to create large and complex vehicles from the outset. Ideal for players who like to create scale replicas of real-world vehicles or wacky and ambitious creations of their own design.
Career Survival mode
Career mode focuses on progression and an overarching plot of starting your own search and rescue service from humble beginnings and building it up to cover the entire Stormworks world map. You will have to manage your finances, build space, and your own safety as you complete various missions to finance larger, more complex vehicles and new land bases.
Survival difficulty options
Survival difficulty options add an extra level of difficulty to your search and rescue operation with the most in depth and advanced game features including: advanced engine and fuel mechanics, LUA based micro controllers, vehicle damage, spreadable fire, and a variety of player damage types that can result in player deaths including:
- fall / impact damage
- fire damage
- prolonged exposure to the sea resulting in hypothermia
- mechanical damage (rotor blades)
- water pressure damage
- ...and sharks!
Construct vehicles by placing blocks in a rich editing suite, customize them with your own design and program their behaviour using the powerful in-game logic system. Choose from a wide array of components to assemble your own rescue helicopters, boats, submersibles and more…
Take to the sea, land or sky in your newly created vehicle. Navigate through over 15,000 square kilometres of ocean and islands in an amazingly dynamic world. Players will need to ensure that they create the right vehicle for the job as every mission is unique.
Design specific vehicles to respond to challenging missions across open oceans, island facilities, remote rigs and more. Rescue survivors from the water, fight fires, help repair oil rigs, operate nuclear power station machinery and more. Create and share your own missions using the rich missions editor. Unlock new locations and components in career mode or explore your imagination in creative mode.
Join your friends in cooperative multiplayer as you operate multi-crew vehicles, and execute complex missions involving careful planning and coordination.
The day-night cycle and dynamic weather system create diverse environments to put your creations to the test. From calm sunny mornings, to unforgiving stormy nights and even tsunamis - strong winds can turn the ocean from gentle ripples to fierce heaving waves, affecting your vehicles using physics-based hydrodynamics and displacement-buoyancy systems.

Dear Stormworkers,
In this minor update, we have added hydrogen fuel cells and lunar mining (on the moon for Space DLC owners). The mining is for hydrous ore, which can be used to extract water. You can use the water with hydrolysis to create oxygen and hydrogen, to maintain life support and fuel liquid rocket engines.
FPS limit support is added by popular request, mostly for laptop players who are concerned about heat and battery life.

Dear Stormworkers,
In this minor update, we have made some improvements focused on the Search & Destroy DLC. Armour is introduced by reworking our projectiles and ballistics so that impacts are now calculated considering the density of the object being collided, and by ordering contact correctly so that a dense block may protect the lighter blocks behind it.
We have also added properties to warheads and nuclear fuel rods so players have better control over how these components behave.

Dear Stormworkers,
In this minor update, we have added some new buoyancy blocks. The existing buoyancy block was just a capsule - these new blocks are some corner and edge pieces, intended for use on medium sized vehicles.

A common application for these blocks are sea planes, and they have been designed based on player requests. This will hopefully solve common issues when designing sea planes. We expect there will be other block designs that players need for different types of vehicles and different contexts. While we don't want to start adding every possible shape of block, we are happy to consider other contexts. If you have suggestions, please make a feature request on the issue tracker!

Dear Stormworkers,
In this update, we have added layered microcontroller nodes! This allows nodes of different types to be placed in the same voxel, meaning microcontrollers can be more compact.
When designing the node layout on your microcontroller, the interface remains similar. The key difference is that now nodes on different layers can now be placed in the same voxel. For example, a composite node can be placed on the same voxel as an on/off node.

Dear Stormworkers,
In this update, we have added folders for organizing your vehicles!
We have added new pivots allowing to pass fluid and torque. These are a useful change for many vehicle building situations and complete the set of pivot parts.
This is a long-requested feature and is very useful for players which huge number of creations or large numbers of subscriptions.
Players can create folders, then assign vehicles to those folders, as well as filtering the screen to creations only in that folder.

Dear Stormworkers,
In this update, we have added new machine gun ammo boxes with 400 round capacity! For S&D DLC owners, the small machine gun will now be able to sustain fire for longer.
We have added new pivots allowing to pass fluid and torque. These are a useful change for many vehicle building situations and complete the set of pivot parts.

Keels now have a power slider to help sail boat creators to better tune their creations.
We have also made some improvements and bug fixes which are explained in the patch notes below.
Work continues on Stormworks updates and we are already working on many updates, well into 2026. Many thanks to all the players who have given feedback and provided detailed issues on the support site! This has been a big help in identifying and fixing issues in the game.

Dear Stormworkers,
This update extends the new flexible ammo belt concept to hoppers! We have added a new belt part for connecting hoppers together, making it easier to build any ore, mining, or fishing equipment.
As well as this, we have added a new toggle to allow or disallow modded components in servers. We have also added a new electric node to some of the train wheels, to assist some players make electric trains. This was requested during the recent Q&A session.
We have also resolved a performance issue where the game previously slowed down over time.
We have also added the Geometa logo to the game.

Dear Stormworkers,
This update introduces new flexible ammo belts for guns! Like all weapons content, they can be placed cosmetically in the base game but require the Search & Destroy DLC to operate.
These new belt components can be placed like regular components, then linked together using the rope tool. This generates a flexible chain of links in the ammo chain. This is a long requested feature, and has been asked for since before the Search and Destroy DLC was even released!
