Official update history
Build 17710725
Mar 13, 2025
Hey everyone!
We just released a small update for SunnySide that addresses a few issues. Even though this isn't a big update, we wanted to share some details about what's included!
Adjustment to Cooking Recipes
With the previous update, we reworked cooking in SunnySide to make it more approachable. However, this introduced some issues for a handful of recipes. Out of the 375 recipes available, around 8 became unattainable under certain circumstances.
These 8 "nuanced" recipes essentially share the same ingredients but differ in proportions. As you might guess, this caused logical conflicts when determining what the player intended to cook. To address this, these 8 recipes now require more precise attention, unlike other recipes after patch 10, their ingredient counts must now be exact. Bulk cooking will not work with these specific recipes.
We plan on developing a more permanent solution later on. But since some of these items, notably "Okayu," are vital for progressing through the skill tree, we felt an immediate patch was necessary.
Here are all of the "nuanced" recipes:
- Cooked Sticky Rice
- Okayu
- Flatbread Dough
- Pie Dough
- Bitter Mash
- Hoppy Mash
- Malty Mash
- Sweet Mash
Performance and Stability Enhancements
We've also implemented more optimizations and performance improvements. While these adjustments might not be immediately visible, they've significantly enhanced game stability, resulting in fewer potential crashes and stutters during your gameplay experience.
If you want to make sure that you have the update, check the game version on the main menu or the pause menu, on the bottom right of your screen. It should read "1.20.3-Main".
Thanks for reading our patch notes, and we'll see you in the next update! 💚
Build 17540920
Feb 28, 2025
Hey everyone,
First off, a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our SunnySide Player Survey! We received over 1,000 responses, and the insight you shared is already shaping the way we move forward. Your feedback has been incredibly valuable in helping us decide where to focus our efforts, and we’re excited to share what we’ve been working on!
Survey Highlights & Charts
We’ve gone through all the responses and compiled the data, below, you'll find some charts breaking things down visually. Here’s a quick overview of what we learned:
Optimization and performance improvements were the top request, so we’ve started addressing this right away.
Many of you shared frustrations with certain mechanics, and we’ve made some key quality-of-life improvements based on those, some included in this patch. We also saw some really thoughtful feedback on gameplay balance, usability, and general experience improvements, we hear you, and we’ll continue working on these!
Let's also take a look behind the curtain at the results of the survey:
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41423874/965b338bdfb1b5c8c54ee14310153ea90ba3a77c.jpg
Performance Improvements
We know that a smooth experience is key to fully enjoying the game, and from the survey results, it’s clear that optimization is a top priority for many of you. While performance improvements have been an ongoing effort, we’ve made major strides in this update, focusing on areas that needed the most attention.
Our goal is to make SunnySide feel better to play across the board, whether you’re farming, exploring, or diving into the depths of the caves. This update lays the foundation for future optimizations, and we’ll continue refining performance over time.
- Cave Level Performance: We focused on improving performance in all cave areas, with Lush Caves receiving an extra aesthetic overhaul alongside optimizations.
- Overworld: General optimization pass across various areas to improve stability and performance.
We’re not done with optimizations yet, but this is a big step in making SunnySide run smoother!
Quality of Life & Requested Features
Alongside performance fixes, we tackled some of the most requested QoL changes!
Summon & Dismiss Sparky Anytime!
You can summon or dismiss Sparky anytime from your inventory!
- We saw a lot of requests for this, many of you wanted a way to dismiss Sparky while exploring, and now you can! Just open your inventory and press the Dismiss Sparky button.
- Don’t worry, he’ll still appear when needed for cutscenes, cave navigation, and fights.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41423874/b2c2ee07114628a3208812f9d24e4d0b56bb33d7.jpg
Animal Happiness & Needs Overhaul
We saw a lot of feedback about animals not staying happy consistently, which was frustrating for many of you. Pets and farm animals are an important part of the game, so we’ve reworked how they manage their needs to make them more reliable, responsive, and overall happier.
- More reliable: They now handle their needs much more efficiently.
- Better optimized: This should reduce weird behaviors and glitches.
- Happier animals overall!: Works for both pets and farm animals.
Cooking System Rework
We heard you, cooking has been a bit too difficult, so we made it more forgiving!
- Recipe detection is now more lenient: You don’t have to be as exact with ingredients and can put more than needed in the mixing circle.
- You can cook multiple servings at once: Just add multiple sets of ingredients!
- Be careful: If you use extra ingredients, they won’t be refunded if not used up!
A Personal Note from Us
We also want to take a moment to say something personal. Your messages in the survey truly meant the world to us.
SunnySide’s development has been a journey, filled with ups, downs, and some really tough moments. The kind, encouraging words so many of you shared in the survey were a huge boost to our spirits. We’ve been through a lot as a studio, and hearing your support, excitement, and even just kind words of appreciation reminded us why we do this in the first place.
Seriously, thank you. It means more than we can say.
If you want to make sure that you have the update, check the game version on the main menu or the pause menu, on the bottom right of your screen. It should read "1.20.2-Main".
We’ll be back with more soon! 💚

Build 15815196
Sep 25, 2024
Hello everyone! It’s time for another SunnySide Update, and this one is BIG!
We’re introducing a whole new way to play SunnySide, and we’re excited about the new possibilities and features it brings to the game.
Sandbox Mode is a new way to enjoy SunnySide! It skips all of the introductory quest lines and cutscenes and puts you right into your first farm, ready for action. YOU get to decide what is unlocked, and when.
When starting a new game, you will now be presented with two play options: Story Mode or Sandbox Mode. Story Mode will take you to the RPG/Cozy select screen as normal, but Sandbox Mode will skip this entirely. Instead, you’ll be asked to customize a variety of game mechanics to suit your play style.
Here’s a full list of all your new options. You can select or deselect them at any time during gameplay:
All Blueprints Unlocked
Checking this box means: All building blueprints will be made available right from the start of the game, or Unlock them immediately when checked.
Free Building
Checking this box means: Building blueprints no longer require any materials to complete. This option is especially powerful when combined with “Auto Deposit Requirements” option in buildmode and will allow you to one-click place-n-build any blueprint.
Build Anywhere
Checking this box means: Build blueprints anywhere in the world. As you can imagine this can cause problems with NPCs, cutscenes and the world of the game as a whole, so please use it responsibly and do not lock any of the poor residents of SunnySide inside tiny houses.
Skip Collision Check (when building)
Checking this box means: You no longer need to cut the grass around an area to build. (This also eliminates the check for the character, so be careful not to lock yourself inside anything)
Unlimited Drone Range
Checking this box means: You can fly your drone anywhere in the world without limitations. Like the build anywhere option, as you can imagine, this option will give your drone access to areas that otherwise would not be accessible through a normal playthrough. So please keep that in mind when flying around SunnySide and Higashi! But if you’re curious about how we put together the world of SunnySide, go ahead and explore and investigate, just be careful of reaching the world’s edge :)
Starter Money
Checking this box means: Customise how much money you start the game with. You can choose between Default (150 cupules), No money (for extra challenge) or Millionaire (5 million cupules) which would mean you never need to worry about money again.
Unlock All Cooking Recipes
Checking this box means: Like the build blueprints, you will start the game with all cooking recipes already discovered, or Unlock them immediately when checked.
Acquire All Songs
Checking this box means: This will populate the KoiBeats app with all the songs in-game. Enjoy the tunes!
Max All Skills
Checking this box means: All of the skills in the game will be set to the maximum level (level 30) from the start, or immediately when checked.
Free Skill Tree Requirements
Checking this box means: As you know, each skill on the skill tree requires you to donate a specific item to unlock it. This option will bypass that, allowing you to unlock any skill so long as you meet the required level.
Unlimited Energy
Checking this box means: Never run out of energy again while keeping busy around the farm!
NPC Gender Preferences
Checking this box means: As you might already know, SunnySide’s romantic options all come with their own pre-determined gender preferences regarding you, the player. If you’re ever worried about not being able to romance your favourite character with your specific gender selection, this option is for you. All NPCs will be compatible with you once you turn this option off.
Please Note: Some stories might seem odd, dialogue has not been adjusted.
Unlock All Farms
Checking this box means: Certain farm locations in SunnySide are locked behind cave story progression. If you’d like a quicker start to your farming empire or would like to stick to the overworld, turning this option on will unlock all of these farms for purchase. Please keep in mind that using the elevators in these hidden locations WILL cause problems for the natural quest progression in the caves.
Own All Farms
Checking this box means: Don’t want to spend the cash on each farm? Just turn this option on and you will own all 4 purchasable farms from the beginning. Make sure you unlock them, too!
Pests Do Not Steal
Checking this box means: We’ve had a chat with the foxes and raccoons of SunnySide and they’ve promised to stop stealing your crops or traumatising your chickens if we give them a treat. We’ll handle the regular treat giving, don’t you worry. ;)
No Crop Death Seasons
Checking this box means: Your crops almost always stay alive unless they reach the end of their life cycle. Plant anything in any season!
No Plant Size Restrictions
Checking this box means: You can plant trees and large crops in smaller plots and planters. Please use responsibly, and note that there may be some graphical weirdness.
Happy Animals
Checking this box means: Your farm animals will always be happy and content, regardless of their living conditions.
Friendly Enemies
Checking this box means: Enemies in the caves will no longer chase you. They won’t even spot you to cause you trouble. You can however still attack them if you wish. Sneak attack!
Disable Mini-Bosses
Checking this box means: The Caves of SunnySide come with a pretty simple quest loop, each cave level has 4 power nodes to be activated, and each power node is guarded by a miniboss. This option will disable those mini-bosses, so you can access the power nodes peacefully.
Disable All Cave Barriers
Checking this box means: We know that some of you really didn’t like the colour-coded gates inside of the caves of SunnySide. This option will allow you to forever get rid of them and explore the caves at your own pace. Keep in mind that triggering the final boss battles of each level without properly going through the questline of each level will very likely cause problems.
Some of these options are also adjustable once the game has started through the new "Sandbox App". So if you’d like to adjust things later you can always do that while the game is running.
The entire tutorial questline of the game, (including most overworld quests that unlock different systems and aspects of the game) may be gone, but in exchange, you'll start the game right away on your farm with all quest related progressions unlocked. (Yes, this includes vehicles and horses)
All NPC stories are still accessible in Sandbox mode through normal hangouts. The Cave questline is also entirely open and accessible and you can start it simply by visiting the Caves.
It's also worth noting that Steam achievements are disabled on a Sandbox Mode game.
We’re really excited to finally introduce two new (and HIGHLY requested) Phone Apps:
We’ve added a whole new app in the game that allows you to check your skill progressions without having to visit the Kashiwa Shrine. With this new app, you can check your XP and level for each Skill category. You will also be able to see all the available skills in each category, if they can be unlocked, and what item is needed to unlock them. Keep in mind that you still need to visit the shrine to unlock skills.
We’ve heard you and we’ve added a new tab to the Squirrel IM app so that you can now change your name, birthday, profile picture, username and bio at any time using the app. You will also be able to reference what section of the Gender Slider you selected when creating your character.
We’ve also fixed a few pesky bugs:
Sparky should now steal moves from enemies successfully. Keep in mind that certain skills are "un-stealable" by Sparky but we have fixed the bug that constantly displayed the message "No acquirable skills found".
We’ve also removed the invisible wall that was blocking you from exiting the secret area unlocked from the Lush Level of the caves. Feel free to forage to your heart’s content now!
Lastly, we’ve also added a new secret to the map that is only accessible through Sandbox Mode! Have fun on the hunt and feel free to join our discord server if you need help finding and solving this new mystery!
For an extra boost, here’s is a clue about where to find this new secret that will unlock a special item in the game:
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41423874/1025446250a35c324e1ed7c4a3439561dcae88b5.jpg
The version number for this update is 1.20.0, and is listed at the bottom-right of the screen in the main menu or while pausing the game. If your game is on that version, you’ve got the update! If Steam hasn't prompted you for an update, it is usually dispatched slowly to each region. If you'd like to force Steam to update the game, fully restart Steam (close it from your system tray or task manager).
Please note that due to some internal changes with our publisher, we haven't been able to localise this update yet. We will be working on pushing an update with all of the Sandbox text localised.
Thank you so much for reading the patch notes! If you’re enjoying SunnySide, please let us know by leaving the game a review, it helps us immensely! Your feedback is our best source of information on what we should focus on next <3
Thank you again for loving the game, for reporting issues to us, and for your continued patience! We’re committed to making SunnySide the best it can be!
See you in the next update!

Build 15310524
Aug 9, 2024
Hey everyone, it’s time for another update for SunnySide!
This time around, our focus has been on some (highly requested) quality-of-life features as well as continued work on bugs and optimization. Our highlight for this update is the newly added Global Storage Access! Let’s look at how it works alongside everything else the team has been working on:
Global Storage Access
When using any storage item; such as cardboard boxes, global cache, or even your vehicle’s inventory, you can now see the global storage access menu on the left side of the screen. This menu allows you to switch to any remotely accessible storage placed in the world. Once switched, you can move items easily between them and even customize them all from one location.
We’ve heard your struggles regarding gemstones and caves, so with this update, we are adding one more use to the campsites inside each of our cave levels! When using a campsite, you can now access the global cache remotely. This combined with the global access, allows you to access virtually any storage from within the caves whilst sitting at a campsite.
The global storage access is available even on your vehicles! This gives you a mobile way to access all of your inventories even when you’re cruising around in town. We hope that this update alongside the customizations of storage in the previous update, gives you all a much more enjoyable experience of inventory management. We've also heard the call for larger storage options, and we will be looking into more options in the future.
AutoWalk
From your feedback on our Steam and Discord community, we have decided to implement an autowalk feature! Like many other RPGs, you can now activate the autowalk mode by pressing “C” at any time. A little prompt will pop up at the bottom left corner of the screen to let you know that autowalk is currently active.
While autowalk is active you can press forward to continuously move forward, you can continue to aim or even strafe without interrupting the autowalk. You can stop the character by moving the character backwards without having to turn off autowalk.
If you’re using a gamepad, you can access the autowalk feature under the “Accessibility” section of the settings menu.
Cooking Mixing Circle Improvements
If you’ve used the cooking menu in SunnySide, you know that ingredient portions are important. We also know that using the stack split menu constantly can be a pain, especially when cooking multiple dishes on one appliance. Taking a note from one of our own favourite games, such as Minecraft, we’ve added single-item placement inside the mixing circle!
When holding a stack of items on your cursor, left clicking or using A/Cross on a gamepad places the entire stack onto that slot, just like before. But now you can instead press the right click or X/Sqaure to place down a single item from the stack onto the slot! You can also continue to add one to the slot by pressing the right click multiple times.
This small change has a big impact on interacting with the cooking system, hopefully making it easier and removing more barriers and menus when cooking in SunnySide!
Let’s take a look at what else the team has worked on this week:
Progression and Skill Tree
- Fixed an incorrect value for the achievement "My Precious".
- Trees that do not have physical top sections (such as Oak) now give you the correct drops when broken.
- Breaking the stump of the trees on the farm now gives you the proper amount of XP.
Phone and UI
- When using the interface setting to disable the minimap, the minimap now collapses into a notification bar as opposed to disappearing altogether, allowing you to still see the number of pending messages.
- The setting for the button prompts (PlayStation or Xbox) should now persist correctly.
- The vehicle HUD for the scooter and the truck will no longer occasionally get stuck on screen.
- Using the Battle Planner app in caves when it is late, should no longer darken the lights.
- The minimap quest markers are now a lot more accurate and don't disappear randomly.
Social System
- The "Quest Hold" notice no longer shows up on the HUD objectives panel when tracking an NPC fetch quest.
- The letter from Ryozo should now display the player's name correctly.
Farming & Cooking
- Fixed the Avocado Oil Barrel & Turnip Seed Food Crafting recipes.
- Food Crafting machines now have proper controller support.
General Bug Fixes & World Improvements
- Removed a stray model of Melody and Hanako from the winter decorations map.(yes, again LOL)
- Fixed a few of the tutorial trigger boxes that would not trigger occasionally.
- Further improvements to level loading and game performance.
- Farm 3 and 4 now cost 5K and 10K cupules, respectively.
Developer Tip of the Week:
You can press “F” while drawing a path, fence or wall. This will add a corner pinpoint to your currently drawn item and allow you to create bends and other complicated shapes!
The version number for this update is 1.18.1, and is listed at the bottom-right of the screen in the main menu or while pausing the game. If your game is on that version, you’ve got the update! If Steam hasn't prompted you for an update, it is usually dispatched slowly to each region. Build 15154459
Jul 26, 2024
Hey everyone, we’re back with another update for SunnySide!
As we mentioned in the last update, we have now pivoted to bi-weekly updates, as it provides us with more time to work on bigger features, tackle more time consuming bugs, and do more testing on performance. We’re pretty happy with the bundle of changes for this update and we’d like to start by highlighting some of the biggest ones.
Animal Selling
Thanks to your amazing feedback in the community polls channel on our Discord Server, we have now implemented Animal Selling! This is a whole new system that not only allows you to sell your unwanted animals, but it also uses a dedicated formula to calculate how much an animal will be worth based on their living conditions, happiness, and overall love meter.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41423874/e767471dd9ca6bf5acc7c4cd3f14339f5cd47218.gif
This change will make SunnySide’s Ranching systema lot more robust, and you can now even focus solely on that “career path” as your form of income in-game. Based on your choice in the Discord Community poll, the animal selling interface can be accessed through the Animal Companion app. Simply toggle Sell mode and the game will display an estimated value for the animal, which updates in real time. You can then set an animal to be sold, but you will have until the end of the day to cancel the process if you change your mind. The next day, animals which were set to be sold will disappear, their slots in a coop or sleeping spot will open, and you’ll see money in your pocket!
New Crafting Recipes at the Crafting Table/Build Station
We have added a number of new crafting recipes which can be found in the Crafting interface inside either the Crafting Table or Build Station. These items, some of which are level locked, will provide a more smooth and enjoyable experience especially for players at the later stages of their playthrough.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41423874/45fb7fac9111bc65f03af575252b9cb929686f16.gif
We will continue to balance the requirements as well as work on potentially adding more ways for you to utilize the crafting system.
New Storage Customizations
We know storage and inventory management can be a big portion of the day-to-day loop in SunnySide, and we have seen how meticulous some of you are with your boxes of items! Honestly, it’s very impressive, and to give you all more tools to customize your storages we have implemented changing the color tag and icon of storages to make things easier to find at a glance.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41423874/0d23c460f2f35f992c233ed2c19d809519863b9c.gif
Simply open a storage interface, and inside you should be able to change the color and icon of the storage container. Keep in mind that this does not apply to the global cache, vendor drop points or cave caches, and only works for whatever storage you can build on your farm.
Food Crafting Balancing
We heard your feedback on the excessive amount of time foodcrafting can take. Before this update, the time for a food crafting recipe would be calculated based on the amount of output you select. So if a 1x Soy sauce would take 30 mins to be done, 4 of them would take 2 hours. We have changed how this calculation is done and it is no longer a one-to-one multiplier.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41423874/d2f49b71ac9101ce9c2a4789cc3e0d0cb10724ad.gif
We now use increments which means the time will only be multiplied once a threshold is reached. This, from the beta feedback, seems to be a much more preferred method of calculating the time and should allow you to do much more with less food crafting equipment in the same amount of time!
Let’s take a look at what else the team has worked on this week:
Farm Animals & Pets
- Animals no longer try to seek your attention when you're far away from them (in a different farm for example).
- Animal shearing and milking stations now only grab animals from the farm the player is at.
Progression and Skill Tree
- Fixed an inconsistency with the amount of resources trees drop when cut, especially when used alongside its related skills.
- The skill "Farmer" should no longer affect the last stage of a crop, causing it to wither the next day.
Shops and Vendors
- Fixed an issue to the vendors, where you could purchase more than 100 items if you exceeded the amount.
- Subsequently, to ensure an enjoyable experience for all post this fix, we've bumped the max item purchase to 300 items.
- You can now add 10, 100 or 300 items to your cart from a vendor's item list. This is currently only implemented for Items in vendor shops and we'll look into a similar solution for services in future updates.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41423874/708575239a7f626c1e19fa6c4f26a70c287950b9.gif
Phone and UI
- The currently tracked quest is now highlighted in the journal app.
- You can now untrack quests, this will also hide it from your HUD. Simply re-click on a tracked quest to toggle it off.
- The black phone screen after using certain apps such as SunnySeed should no longer appear.
Caves
- Using an Ofuda in battle no longer removes all the instances of that card.
Social System
- Fixed an issue with Lucy's dating cutscenes.
- "Tend the Animals" activity at Reed Estate hangout is now accessible during correct time of day.
Build Mode
- Fixed an inconsistency with Build Mode where sometimes the rotations degrees would not persist between items.
- All buildable sittable surfaces such as chairs and sofas now correctly attach to the building they're built on when moving buildings around.
- When drawing paths or walls, if the path cannot be placed (if it exceeds the buildable area) instead of the game canceling the placement of the whole path/wall, it now gives you an error "Cannot place path/wall" without discarding your process of drawing.
- Time now pauses when using a food crafting machine.
- There are now pre-placed building stations on all farms besides farm 1. You can find each one inside the large open sheds and they need to be built.
- When loading a save, placed blueprints should now show up more reliably.
Farming & Cooking
- Compost bins now give you the correct type of fertilizer.
- All unlocked food crafting recipes now appear in food crafting machines all the time, consistently.
- Food Crafting XP is more generous now.
- Fixed an incorrect stage length for Japonica.
- All crops now correctly fruit inside of a greenhouse regardless of season.
- Greenhouses should work a lot more reliably now.
- Simple syrup now acts as a sweetener in cooking recipes.
General Bug Fixes & World Improvements
- Vehicles no longer continue to move when opening the Map App or Journal App through hotkeys M and J.
- The minimap will now dynamically zoom in and out as your speed changes. For example, when on a vehicle and going at high speed the mini map will zoom out to show you more of the map proportionate to your speed so you can navigate easier.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41423874/a341e92eea744b118f0349a081736ec004cbe8c3.gif
- Improved the performance when sleeping, the visible hitch when loading the sleep screen should no longer appear.
- You can now adjust the day length up to 60 mins instead of 30.
- Adjustments to the rendering pipeline, which should provide improvements to performance across different machines.
- Added a button to access the official community-run wiki in the Main Menu and Pause Menu.
Developer Tip of the Week:
Once you build irrigation pipes, you can activate them remotely through the “Utilities” app on your phone, and even set an auto schedule for every morning! All you need to do is activate the appropriate skill on the Skill Tree!
The version number for this update is 1.17.0, and is listed at the bottom-right of the screen in the main menu or while pausing the game. If your game is on that version, you’ve got the update! If Steam hasn't prompted you for an update, it is usually dispatched slowly to each region. If you'd like to force Steam to update the game, fully restart Steam (close it from your system tray or task manager).
As always, we will continue to work on more optimisation, fixes and improvements as you all continue to play and enjoy SunnySide.
Before we close this update, we wanted to take a moment to announce the SunnySide Official Community-Run Wiki!
If you’re a longtime follower of SunnySide you might be familiar with our wiki on fandom. Our community-based wiki team decided to make a transition to wiki.gg a while back and now the transition has been completed. This is now the official wiki for SunnySide and the fandom wiki will no longer be maintained by our Discord Community.
SunnySide Official Community-Run Wiki
We have also added a link to the wiki in-game so you can access it easily in a pinch. If you’d like to get involved with the wiki, you can do so by joining our Discord community! Keep in mind that the wiki is purely community driven and while we endorse and support it however we can, it is not managed nor maintained by us.
Thank you so much for reading the patch notes! Thank you again for loving the game, for reporting issues to us, and for your continued patience! We’re committed to making SunnySide the best it can be!
See you in the next update!

Build 15016245
Jul 12, 2024
Hey everyone, it’s time for another SunnySide Patch!!
We’d like to start by highlighting some big fixes we’ve implemented this week. Firstly a thank you to all of you who sent your save files over for an investigation into a separate issue that was causing long load times. We’ve made excellent progress on this issue and we’re happy to call it resolved, eliminating any known loading issues from the main menu or when sleeping.
Another important fix addresses the visibility of save files from the main menu. Based on your reports, we discovered that, under certain conditions, not all save files were visible. Specifically, if you had a save in slot 1 and started a new game in slot 2 or 3, the game would sometimes incorrectly register the new save as slot 1. While this didn't immediately impact gameplay, it occasionally caused save files to disappear from the load screen.
This issue has now been resolved for all new players and those who haven't encountered it yet, but we also wanted a fix for our current players experiencing this problem. To address this, the game now displays all saves with incorrect indexing underneath the five base save slots. This change also makes it easier to share save files, as newly added saves will always appear below the five slots.
If you plan to modify the save folder (located at Documents>RainyGames>SunnySide), please ensure the game is open and at the main menu to prevent Steam Cloud from overriding your changes.
If you had previously participated in an alpha version of SunnySide or one of the Playtest sessions from 2023, you might see some old save files pop up again. Please delete these saves using the delete button, as loading them can cause unexpected behaviour.
Let’s take a look at what else the team has worked on this week:
Farm Animals & Pets
- Animals should have an easier time accessing food/water stations.
- Reduced small animal water usage.
- Baby Swiss cows should now have the correct model and product and no longer turn into Jersey cows when growing.
- Horses can now only be added to “Horse Bed” when purchasing. Subsequently, no other animals can be added to the “Horse Bed” other than horses.
- Receiving the objective “Purchase a Horse from Riverside Ranch” now gives you the blueprint for a horse bed automatically. If you already have the objective, simply buy it from Hoshi Woodworks.
- If you have problems completing the objective “Purchase a Horse from Riverside Ranch” ensure that you are adding the horse to a “Horse Bed” after this update!
Progression and Skill Tree
- The skill "Glinting Eye" should work properly now.
- The skill "Botanist" now appears a lot more smoothly and is less visually intrusive.
- Fixed empty requirements on a number of skills.
- Fixed the duplicate skill “Friendly III” and switched it to the correct “Friendly II”.
Shops and Vendors
- Seasonal clothing shops and Debonaire should now sell the correct list of items.
Phone and UI
- You can now back out of the Ofuda purchasing menu using a controller.
- The Omamori purchasing window should no longer get stuck on the screen occasionally.
- The minimap now works properly when on vehicles.
- You can now see the estimated value of a stack of items in certain inventories (storage boxes and player inventory for now).
- Added a "tidy up" button to storage in the game. This is the first step in our inventory management quality of life features we're working on. This button will remove empty spaces in storage and put the items close to each other. As inventory management in general is a hefty task it'll take us a bit longer to implement all the features we have planned, but we wanted to add this small feature for this update.
Caves
- Ores should work a lot more reliably with the skill "Tungsten Arms".
- Fishing in Ice Caves is now fixed. This was happening due to the Rainbow Trout and Smelt missing their inventory item references. As a result, these two types of fish are also now acquirable.
Social System
- Hanako and Blake duplicate removed from the Winter Decorations map.
- Yukio story spoiler: Yukio's second house should no longer appear on the map app before she is moved out of her first house. Additionally, she should no longer invite you to her second house before she's moved.
- Fishing competition is now a lot more fair.
- Kyle should now be present during the fishing competition (during Town Birthday) after the competition has started. To submit your fish for the competition just talk to him at the fishing competition site.
- Fixed an incorrect string of dialogue for Mayumi, when if you invite her to a hangout and she suggests a location, it would instance display “MayumiMSG”.
Buildmode
- When depositing items into a placed blueprint, the game now automatically grabs relevant items from your cache as well as your inventory.
- When placing down a blueprint, the requirements window now displays the amount in your cache as well as your inventory.
- The “Rotation Degrees” will now stay consistent when selecting different items to build with and no longer reset when selecting a new blueprint to place.
- You can now select and move animal sleeping spots that are placed on a ledge or are hovering in the air with ease.
Farming & Cooking
- Greenhouses should all work properly in preserving crops now.
- Honeysuckle's leaves should no longer disappear during winter.
- Pickled Fiddlehead Fern recipe is fixed.
- Pickled Carrot recipe is fixed.
- Chicory is now an annual that dies in the winter.
- "Rice" cooking tag added to Short Grain and Long Grain Rice. (Malted Rice recipe should work now).
- Apple Pie, Chicory tea, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter Cookie Dough and Babka recipes fixed.
- Sesame Oil and Sunflower Oil recipes fixed in the Canning Machine.
- Walnuts can now be harvested properly.
- All nut icons now use the correct icon version without the bowl.
General Bug Fixes & World Improvements
- Fixed a duplication bug with Cedar trees in the world.
- Fixed a rotation problem that caused farm trees to start leaning over the longer the player played. All farm trees should now be upright.
- Removed wreaths from Naka doors in winter.
Developer Tip of the Week:
Did you know that sitting at a zen spot or at any location (using the tool wheel) replenishes your energy in a pinch?
The version number for this update is 1.16.0, and is listed at the bottom-right of the screen in the main menu or while pausing the game. If your game is on that version, you’ve got the update! If Steam hasn't prompted you for an update, it is usually dispatched slowly to each region. If you'd like to force Steam to update the game, fully restart Steam (close it from your system tray or task manager).
As always, we will continue to work on more optimisation, fixes and improvements as you all continue to play SunnySide. We will not be putting out an update next week, as we want a little more time for the next Patch to cook.
Thank you so much for reading the patch notes! Thank you again for loving the game, for reporting issues to us, and for your continued patience! We’re committed to making SunnySide the best it can be!
See you in the next update!

Build 14945130
Jul 5, 2024
Hey everyone, we’re back with another week of bug fixes and improvements!
It’s been a busy week and we’ve managed to tackle a number of bugs, add a few quality-of-life improvements and make some tweaks to the balancing of certain aspects of the game.
We heard your request for a house earlier in the game, and after a poll on our Discord community, we have added a whole new house to build mode. This starter house is unlocked alongside the tea-house which you can build as soon as you have your chat with Philip. If you’ve already finished the quest or seen the cutscene, the game will automatically add the new starter house blueprint to your drone’s Build Mode, so be sure to check it out!
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41423874/7fbeb13600f731a5c9eab3edc9cfd373c705223b.png
Let’s take a look at what else the team has worked on this week:
Farm Animals & Pets
- Fixed a few saving issues and collision issues with the Shearing Station. The Station should be much easier to grab in Build Mode as well.
- Animals should no longer phase through walls to reach a feeding station. Please be sure to give them plenty of room around their feeders/waterers! Cats and dogs now need one meal/water per day. Also, a friendly note that some larger animals require food and water multiple times a day.
Progression and Skilltree
- When acquiring a skill at the skill tree the item is now correctly removed from your inventory.
Shops and Vendors
- Removed the shop rotation from Oak Tree Groceries (Sako's Shop). This is a temporary solution while we work on implementing a new form of shop rotation that players can actually enjoy.
- Winter festival items now show up in your inventory correctly upon purchasing them.
- Vendors' shop times should work more reliably now.
- Post Office now opens and closes at correct times.
- A programming rework of how animal purchasing works. Cancelling an animal purchasing window should no longer give you the animals as if you purchased them, it should also work a lot more consistently when purchasing animals in general.
- The receipt on animal purchasing windows should no longer occasionally show 0 as the price of animals. This could subsequently also fix the issue of animals not showing up even though they were purchased.
- Riverside Ranch now refreshes its stock of animals every day and at the start of a day, if loading a save.
- Removed a few items from Sako's shop (Mostly things that can also be found in vending machines)
- The Sale at Gabe's shop and Higashi Pet Rescue has ended. All animals now have normal pricing.
Phone and UI
- Lists such as Build Mode or SunnySeed should now work on all screen sizes. No more items cutting off at the edge or items not filling the whole space on ultrawide monitors. The game now automatically calculates how many items fit on your screen!
- Splitting stack window slider is a lot more responsive on the mouse and keyboard now. More controller adjustments to come.
Caves
- Falling asleep in caves should now correctly save the progression in the caves.
- The circular caches in Desert caves should now have proper content.
- The sunken cache in Cave Level 2 now has a platform to make it accessible.
- Missing Swimming volumes added to Cave levels 2 and 4. You should no longer get stuck in certain areas.
Social System
- Fixed the incorrect item request dialogue at the end of a hangout for a few NPCs.
- Further reduced the frequency at which NPCs invite you to places.
- NPCs should no longer invite you to hang out if a quest-related text message is active.
- Rebalanced NPC Acts of Service item list. Fetch Quests should be a bit easier to complete now.
- Implemented a small system that automatically gets rid of previously added empty fetch quests from NPCs.
Buildmode
- A whole new house blueprint! From this patch onwards, once you get the tea house blueprint from Philip you will also receive the blueprint for the "Shack". It's a small starter house that should help you build a homestead earlier than you could before. If you have already gone past this point in the game, the game should automatically give you this blueprint when you load.
- All the doors on houses are no longer auto-close. This helps with Build Mode but also allows pets in and out of the house.
- A major overhaul to wall/path drawing mechanic, the system will now try to mold the path to the landscape's slopes and dips. This is a pretty big change to the backend of the system but should provide a much more enjoyable experience in drawing walls/paths.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/41423874/024f9a9f024eb5fbc822805e83d455b0dbe6e35f.gif
- All the doors on houses, barns and greenhouses are no longer auto-close. All of these doors will now also save their state overnight so you don't need to reopen them if you've left them open.
- The tea house now has doors on both sides, which should make it feel cozier and more homey.
Farming & Cooking
- Fixed the honey production for "Apple Blossom Honey" and "Mandarin Blossom Honey".
- You can now see a crop's name above the watering icon if you stand close to it for 2.5 seconds.
- Nerfed the percentage chance of raccoons stealing your crops.
- Plants that are inside a greenhouse, now dry out and wither at a slower rate.
- Fixed a number of incorrect names and descriptions on food recipes.
General Bug Fixes & World Improvements
- Changed the player's truck and scooter texture file to a unique texture file for easier modding. (For modders: The files are called T_Player_Truck and T_Player_Scooter).
- Face details on character creator should work fine again.
- Fixed a graphical issue with Bunching Bamboo during winter.
- Snow should no longer fully cover certain ground types (mud, dirt) during snow.
- Expanded blockers to Farm 4 area. (Stop trying to break in, you heathens ^_^ )
- Moved the floating fried chicken bucket to the appropriate map. (If you know, you know.)
Developer Tip of the Week:
Did you know that you can deposit items directly from your build cache into blueprints when using the drone?
The version number for this update is 1.15.35, and is listed at the bottom-right of the screen in the main menu or while pausing the game.

Build 14875634
Jun 28, 2024
Hey everyone, it’s time for another patch!
After last week’s focus on performance improvements, this week we wanted to spend more time focusing on bug fixing alongside the continued efforts on optimisation.. Before we get into the patchnotes, I wanted to highlight the biggest improvement. This boost to performance will be especially beneficial to players who have been playing the game for a while:
From your reports on Steam and Discord, we are happy to say that we were able to track down the super long and unusual load times of saves, and this issue is now resolved. We even made a system that cleans up your current saves you don’t lose any progress - here’s how you can clean your save if you’re experiencing load time issues:
- Load your save, this might take longer than usual as the game will try to fix any errors and issues with your save.
- Once the game loads, it should run normally.
- Simply sleep so the game can save the "fixed" version of the world.
- Return to main menu and load this new save, it should load fine now.
If you experience problems with the caves, I also suggest:
- Visit every unlocked level of the caves at least once.
- Go to sleep so the game can save.
- This should cleanup the cave data as well, as they save separately.
As you can see, the system is designed so that it seamlessly fixes save issues as you continue to play. Simply playing the game in essence fixes the load time issues. This fix also takes care of the “game slowing down as you play” issue.
Now let’s take a look at what else the team has worked on this week:
Farm Animals & Pets
- White and Black Alpacas now drop the correct wool type.
- Fixed a collision issue on baby animals which prevented some from being interactable and pettable, they should all be fine now.
- Quails should now be able to easily leave their coop.
- You can no longer pet, pickup or attach leads to animals that are sleeping.
- Major overhaul of farm animals and pet systems and AI.
- Rebalanced all animal food and water needs. Animals shouldn't be so thirsty anymore.
- Improved the collision on large quail coop, you should be able to close and open the doors without issue.
- Chickens should no longer get stuck in the underside of the large coop.
- Black pigs should work like other pigs now.
- Animals should now use their feed and water stations properly and not morph into each other.
Progression and Skilltree
- The default sheep breed available at Riverside Ranch is now the Southdown (which is the one that gives you wool)
- Updated the item requirement for the skill "Wool Worker I" which unlocks all sheep type.
- Fixed a few incorrect descriptions on skills. (Manure Mania I & II)
- You can now shear rabbits at the shearing station table! This was blocked previously because of a collision issue that stopped the player from being able to interact with the shearing table that is specifically made for rabbits.
Shops and Vendors
- Fixed an item duplication exploit in the vendor sell menu, where if you press esc and confirm at the same time, you receive the money but also your item back.
- Fixed an exploit with services and vendors, where if you added an item to the cart while having a service order that doesn't have its requirements fulfilled, you could order the service anyway.
- Grow Bag and Babs Raised bed now appear in Ladybug shop correctly.
- Purchasing a Grow Bag or Babs Raised Bed now unlocked appropriate blueprints.
- Purchasing a small metal light from Ladybug now gives a lamp blueprint.
- Can now sell appropriate items to Got Noodz, Saiyatek, and the Shady Seller
- Deprecated pet bowl blueprints removed from Hoshi Woodworks Blueprints Shop Menu
Phone and UI

- KoiBeats song list when using the record player now has a scrollbar.
- You can now back out of the record player using a controller.
- You can now place the "Receiver Kit" item in the drone upgrade window without issue.
- Placing a stack of drone upgrades into a slot no longer eats up all the items.
- Picking a drone upgrade from its slot no longer gives you back multiples.
- Speed upgrades to the drone should now work fine in the drone races.
- To-do list is now scrollable using a controller.
- The completed items should no longer appear in the to-do list tab on vendor menus.
Caves
- You can no longer escape boss battles using the hot key on a controller (LB/L1).
- The logged Zant panel in battle planner now has a scroll box.
- No more floating Cave Barrier Switches in Levels 3 or 5
- Moved the locations of some caches in Cave level 5 for easier access
- Selecting "Return to SunnySide '' at the end of a boss battle loss screen should no longer continue to display the post-win cutscene as if the battle was completed.
- Improved lighting on Cave Level 0
- Rock spawns and item drops rebalanced across all cave levels.
- Gates for 3rd and 5th floors now require the correct gem to be activated.
- Cache Decal lights now reflect the color of the stone needed to activate the cache properly.
- You can now use the spacebar as well as E to execute commands in battle.
Social System
- The lock in point for Lucy's romance scene should now function normally.
Buildmode
- Large stone path should work fine now.
- Selecting boundaries (paths, fences and small fences) is now much easier. You can select them or delete them easily even if they're slightly hovering above ground.
- Pre-placed build blueprints (Vehicle shed, Bicycle rack, Tea house and buildstation) now disappear correctly from the to-do list app once built.
- Destroying a storage (fridges, storage boxes, decorative storages) now puts all of its content into your global cache.
- You can now close all barn doors.
- The 3rd Modern Barn mode is now fixed. You can enter it fine and it aligns to the grid properly. If you had one placed down, you might have to move it slightly as it is a tad larger.
- The sleeping bag model is now corrected. If you had already placed one down, you might need to rotate it now.
- The "Select/Destroy Buildings" option is now disabled by default. You will need to select this option in build mode in order to select or destroy large buildings. This is a safety measure to prevent accidentally deleting buildings while decorating.
- Updated and rebalanced the build requirements for beds.
- Adjusted material requirements for a number of build items. More changes may come in the future.
- Adjusted storage capacity of storage items (Including refrigerators). - You may need to destroy and rebuild the item for the change to take effect.
- Adjusted prices for Modern Fridge and Retro Fridge/Freezer to more accurately reflect storage capacity
- Large Grill and Propane Tank removed from item lists in vendor shops ( Items were cut and accidentally left in game)
- New items from each build category added as default blueprints for BuildMode (Including tent, sleeping bag, lights, and many others).
Farming & Cooking
- Remote control of irrigation pipes now displays correctly in the utilities app after unlocking the skill for it.
- Clay wall planters can now be correctly placed on walls and surfaces.
- Raised beds and planters now work with irrigation pipes reliably.
- Watering planters and raised beds is now easier.
- Toothache plant item description now reflects the correct plot size needed for the plant.
- Cinnamon, Adzuki Beans, and Dragon Fruit can now be harvested correctly.
- Spinach salad now recognises the Nuts tag correctly.
- Cucumber now has the vegetable tag.
- Grilled Shabu items now have the correct cooking tag.
General Bug Fixes & World Improvements
- Adjustments to stack size of a lot of inventory items, namely food related items.
- Adjustments to drone upgrade speeds as well as their prices.
- A major improvement to snow coverage during snowy weather conditions, the paths around the world and your farm no longer get fully covered in thick layer of snow, where it is plantable. This should help with visibility during a snow.
- Sako's garden now grows properly in all seasons
- Got rid of that stupid plant blocking the door at the Field Lab
- Small renovation to Field Lab register and counter space.
- Moving the camera around using a controller while sitting no longer prompts the character to get up.
- If DLSS isn't supported on a hardware, it'll now tick the off option by default.
DLSS was disabled on unsupported hardware anyways, but the highlight of the "performance" option, even though the row is greyed out, confused some players into thinking that DLSS was set on by default. Friendly reminder that DLSS is only supported on RTX graphics card from Nvidia (so 20 series and onwards).
The version number for this update is 1.15.30 at the bottom-right of the screen in the main menu or while pausing the game, if your game is on that version, you’ve got the update. If Steam hasn't prompted you for an update, it usually is dispatched via region slowly. If you'd like to force Steam to update the game, fully restart steam (close it from your system tray or task manager).
As always, we will continue to work on more optimization, fixes and improvements as you all continue to play SunnySide.
Thank you so much for reading, for loving the game, for reporting issues to us, and for your continued patience! We’re a very small team, and we’re doing our best <3
See you in the next update!
