About the Game
The island is alive! Your newfound home will change with day/night cycles as you explore and uncover its secrets. Hunt (or be hunted by!) animals for food and an array of mythical enemies, who aren’t necessarily pleased to see you. Get quests from a Mysterious Stranger or find them washed up on the shore. Prepare to trek into a procedurally generated wilderness, with a variety of biomes, for an adventure that’s unique to every player.
Finding the perils of island life too much or just looking to share your building expertise with friends? The Survivalists has you covered! Complete joint adventures, gain loot, trade and ultimately survive together and as you and up to three fellow castaways explore fantastical islands.
If you’re in need of a builder, a lumberjack or even a soldier, the monkeys on the island can be tamed and trained to help you with everyday tasks or back you up on raids to a fanatic camp! The Mimic System means a wide variety of functions can be performed by your cheeky new friends, with monkey management becoming key to surviving the island’s challenges.
The secret to survival is to make the most of the resources around you. Whether that’s piecing together a primitive axe to chop wood or mixing up a refreshing fruit smoothie to keep the hunger at bay, you can discover recipes and expand your options across food, item or structure crafting trees.
Looking for an epic sword to hang on your hut wall or want to lay waste to encroaching hostiles? What you seek could be in one of the many temples scattered around the island. However, getting your hands on the loot won’t be easy so any would-be raiders will need to prepare for their treasure hunting escapades.

We've released a patch on the Experimental Branch aiming to fix the remaining corrupted save files and infinite load screens. We hope after some feedback to move this across to the live version as soon as we can.
We had released a patch to the main branch which resolved many of the save corruption issues at the end of December but we've been working hard on another fix for those saves still effected. Thank you all for your patience so far and we're sorry to those still effected.
The last fix post:
https://steamcommunity.com/games/897450/announcements/detail/4135958413714984526
For this patch on the experimental branch we highly recommend backing up your save data which you can find instructions below.
We'd hugely appreciate feedback from those people still effected on the live version.
Installing the Experimental Branch
Warning on save data
If you access the Experimental Branch you risk your save data. We highly recommend backing up your save data before accessing it. Your save data default should be here:
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36338036/47217faf2123edda1843559371b2f5c71492590a.png
You can just copy this to another folder for safe keeping.
Your current save will be compatible with the new Experimental Branch but likely you will not be able to go back to default with that save. The Experimental Branch will be kept up to date, so you could in theory just play the new branch going forwards. Also you will only be able to play online with other experimental branch players as the default will be incompatible.
Steps to enable Experimental Branch
First right click the game in your Steam Library and select Properties.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36338036/90f139247cae33106b103572ad652def6402eb02.png
Then select the ‘Betas’ tab.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36338036/da6570901458fe6417be832776b0ab850cb887c7.png
From here select Experimental from the dropdown list.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/36338036/7e2466b044eb46d412acac658f8e32e579d0ae69.png
Once you next try to open The Survivalists on Steam you should automatically download the experimental branch!

May your loot be plentiful and your monkeys well fed!
Another patch to the experimental branch has just washed ashore!
Here's all of todays changes based on all of your amazing feedback!
Experimental Branch - Patch Notes 20/11/2020
Balancing and Quality of Life Changes
A change has been made to some default key bindings which may have an effect on the player's
custom keybings. We urge players to check their custom keybindings after updating.
Players can now also move to cancel crafting when using a Multi-tool. A long with last weeks bush collision removal, this is another largely requested anti-frustration feature a lot of the community has requested!
Boars Changes - We felt boars were a little too frustrating to fight against so we've tuned them in several areas:
- Increased the delay between their attacks.
- More warning is given for their pre-charge.
- Slightly reduced their movement speed.
- Damage radius and knockback decreased
Fixes
- Fixed an issue with one of the Labyrinth rooms being broken.
- Fixed an issue where the Quest privilege option was incorrectly labelled.
- Fixed an issue with the Mysterious Stranger's store where players were unable to sell a stack of items.
- Fixed various issues with the behaviour of Mysterious Chests in online sessions.
- Fixed an issue where Torches and Braziers were no longer animating.
- Fixed an issue where players were unable to rotate wooden chairs found in the wild.
- Fixed an issue where wolves were not putting distance between themselves and the player after attacking.
- Fixed an issue where the bloodmoon effect would appear a day before the world was replenished.
We hope you like these changes and look forward to hearing what you think about them!

May your loot be plentiful and your monkeys well fed!
We hope we've not caught you monkeying around, we have another patch for the Experimental branch and the patch for live with these quality of life changes is very close!
Here's all of todays changes based on all of your amazing feedback!
Experimental Branch - Patch Notes 22/10/2020
Changes
- Key binding update – exposed more unique options for “Interact” so these can be bound to different keys.
- Rebalanced building recipe costs
- Monkey commands can now be given whilst the player is carrying a chest or chair
Monkey combat quest and glossary text updated to reflect monkey combat changes
Fixes
- Fix for Star/Favouriting monkeys not correctly updating favourite monkey status
- Monkeys can now correctly repair spike traps
- Fix to stop players exiting teleporters onto unsafe tiles
- Both meat kebab recipes now produce the same item
- Fix for players facing incorrect direction when firing bows
- Fix for blueprints not being able to be built on rare occasions
Note on keybinding and a workaround for potential issues
There may be some issues with keybinding not working correctly if they were edited before this build has gone live. This will be fixed but to fix this yourself on experimental, first reset your keybindings to default and that should let you then bind your keys correctly.
We hope you like these changes and look forward to hearing what you think about them!
