Official update history
In this update, we have made a major change to the cafe and apartment. The cafe now spans the whole space, with the office being moved out into a new, larger alleyway. To make this flow nicely, you will now also have access to a storage room.
On top of the larger open space, you can now extend your cafe into the second floor, giving you a lot more space to work with. To accommodate this, we moved the apartment building across the plaza and moved the apartment you live in to one that's a bit closer to the stairs. You should find getting to and from the cafe a little faster than before.
To help new players discover features such as the furniture buyer in the Cash For Clutter shop, we have introduced a new letter system; you will get mail every few days. At the moment, the only real game point it touches on is the furniture seller; the rest is just bits of story.
We apologize for this update taking so long, but we ran into a few unexpected visual problems that involved us redoing a large amount of the in-game assets. Please continue to give us your feedback, and we hope to continue getting updates out for the game.
As part of these asset changes, those who are running lower end devices, you should see an improvement in your performance.
Please note that the Mac build is slightly delayed due to incredibly slow compilation times.
Update 1.2.0 Patch Notes
\ Major change to the cafe structure: the office has been moved out the back, and a small storage room has been introduced to bridge the two.
Please note that this may cause some initial weirdness, as the move is fairly significant and will impact all saves. We have implemented systems to prevent anything from breaking; however, please let us know if something does go wrong.
\ The apartment has been moved to the opposite side of the plaza to make way for a larger expansion of your cafe.
In addition, we have changed the apartment your player lives in; this will give a slightly shorter overall run. We still plan to improve and build upon the apartments, but this is the first step in that process.\ Added support for Italian
\ Introduced a new letter system; you will slowly receive mail in your mailbox from now on. This helps introduce places like the furniture seller, and we plan to use it later to drip-feed other things around the world as we build the game.
\ Introduced a new patch notes system directly into the game to better show what has changed when someone first launches a new update.
\ Implemented a new system that enables us to teleport players, NPCs, and boxes to a known safe position whenever we make large world changes.
\ Added protections to stop the multi-box
\ Fixed a potential softlock that can occur if the save manages to save your store as open despite it being closed.
\ Solved a bug that would cause the paying off loan achievement not to trigger if you have already paid it off
\ Fixed an issue that, when using the APPLY ALL button on tabletops, the material you set could be lost.
\ Fixed an issue where the loan repayment achievement wouldn't trigger if you had already paid it off in your save game
\ Moved takeout and delivery badges to bottom right, and re-adjusted the takeout badge color to make it more distinct
\ Fixed an issue that could cause seat and customer complaint-related achievements not to trigger properly
\ Don't allow interacting with the tip jar while it's in your hand and you are moving it. Gave the false impression that the money disappeared.
\ Solved an issue that caused delivery orders to never pick an alternative milk
\ Prevent being able to place phones onto doors by separating them from the placeable surface
\ Fixed the delivery driver so he no longer attempts to build the world's largest box tower.
\ Fixed furniture attached to a wall not being transformed into a box when you buy a new section and the wall is torn down
\ Employees should no longer leave items floating in the air. This is a temporary stopgap until we rework their restocking behavior.
\ Fixed an issue that could cause pedestrians to be dragged through the air to the bench they were targeting
\ Solved a shadow issue that could occur with boxes.
We also fixed a critical issue in this update with naming your Cafe. It now properly supports more than just English characters, so typing in Chinese, Japanese, and other languages should now work.
On top of this, we have done our first big achievement addition. If you have been playing the game for a while, you will probably find a chunk of these will trigger as soon as you open your saved game.
Update 1.1.8 Patchnotes
- Added 53 new achievements.
- Fixed the store naming dialog to properly accept input in other languages. Different characters such as Chinese and Japanese should now work when typed. Please let us know if this is not the case.
- Fixed an issue where delivery bags wouldn't get tagged properly, leading them to never be delivered and not showing any hints to the player
- Delivery bags that now match an order will automatically seal instead of requiring you to manually do so
- Temperature units can now be displayed in Fahrenheit as well as Celsius
- Instead of jumping to the next order, we jump to the next claimable order
- Increase the size of customer profile pictures to make them more glanceable
- Phone orders no longer give crazy sized bonuses and no longer have a timer.
- Fixed a timing issue where an employee can end up remaking an order that the player has already made.
- Added a new message at the bottom of delivery order tags stating that it needs to be placed in a paper bag
- Fixed the tea time milestone using the wrong icon.
Another part of this update is we have replaced the input glyphs we were using with ones be Kenney, they are much mroe readable at a glance, especially with controllers, but we will likely need to tweak them, please let us know if you experience any oddities.
Additionally, we have corrected one key issue with our table number update: the ability to set table numbers yourself rather than relying on our automated system. In move mode, you can now look at a table and hit E to change its number.
We have also dealt with various other bugs that users have reported to us. This is a smaller update, but we felt it was needed to quickly deal with some key issues players have been reporting.
As always, please continue to give us your feedback on our game, and we will continue to do our best to grow this game further.
Update 1.1.7 Patch Notes
- You can now carry multiple boxes at once. The amount you can carry depends on the size of the box. Large boxes: you can still only grab one. This is a bit of a work in progress, so we want users' feedback on this system.
- Replaced our input glyphs with one that is more legible for controller controls. We will need to make adjustments in various places, as this new pack we are using doesn't have as much background, so they can melt into the background.
- Updated the toolmode graphic to show what each button is for, as well as making the hotkey more obvious
- Once you have completed an order, the selected should cleanly move on to the next position.
- Fix a critical issue where milestone rewards could end up being triggered multiple times, leading to extra money being given to the player that they shouldn't have received.
- Table numbers can now be assigned to each table while you are in move mode. Just look at the table and hit the use key (E).
- Changed the chip color for delivery to a plum color to help it differentiate from takeout orders.
- Attempted to fix an issue where employees can get delivery bags into a bad state
- Corrected an issue that could cause drink hints to stop appearing for delivery orders
- Items disposed from an order should now cause the order's status to be correct and not always show as ready
- Solved an issue where phone deliveries could fall back into their old path where cups were supported. All orders must now be delivered
Update 1.1.6a Patch Notes
- Fix table numbers being unable to be packed up
- Ensure paper bag holder boxes can only ever deliver a single item. Also solves an issue that enables you to duplicate the number of box holders you have by picking up, converting it back to a box and placing two more down again.
- Fixed the rebinding functionality so you can now map the mouse the scroll wheel up, down, left and right actions.
- Initial fix for employees not wanting to restock display trays holding cake.
Any existing mug can be re-styled using the design tool. You can either change a whole set by selecting them while they are in their holder, or you can assign a different color to each individual item.
As always, please continue to give us your feedback and let us know about any bugs you may run into. We will likely be moving to a slightly slower release schedule just so that we can focus more on getting content into the game for people to enjoy. However, if any bad bugs do pop up, we will be sure to fix them as soon as possible.
One of the next big systems that we will be overhauling is the order delivery one. We know not many people are a huge fan of having to leave the store or being forced to make the orders, so we will be reworking this.
The current plan is to try and have each core system we shipped refined enough that we can move on to new content for the game without leaving a ton of unpolished systems behind.
Update 1.1.5 Release Notes
- Mugs, Plates, and cat beds are now fully user-paintable. You can now select the color you want these to be rather than being forced to what we provided.
Existing cups, plates, and cat beds can be adjusted as well; you don't need to buy new ones.
We plan on expanding this system to support more items around your cafe, as well as implement it on new furniture items as we include them in the game. - Fixed NPCS randomly not putting their umbrella away if they determined they couldn't get to the umbrella rack.
- Fixed NPCs who would put their umbrella into the rack and then immediately leave
- Initial pass to fix NPCS leaving their tips at the table still instead of going to the tip jar
- Added additional guarding to try and ensure NPCS will use the umbrella racks
- Implemented shader warmup. This helps reduce stutters by compiling shaders at the menu, rather than during gameplay. Adds a slight delay to playing but makes a much smoother experience
- Introduced a new build of the game for those who are running a Mac device.
- Added the ability to turn off and on the new texture streaming. Disabling texture streaming increases VRAM usage as the largest textures will be used.
- Steam Cloud Saves could be unreliable and not uploaded properly and synced. This was made worse by the last hotfix but should now be resolved and significantly more reliable than previously.
- - Re-ordered GPU renderers to prioritize DX11 over DX12
There is one new feature in this update: the material tool now gives you more control over how things look. You can now change the tiling size for a material (How big or small it looks) as well as the smoothness (the smoother, the more it reflects the surfaces around it)
Our next update will introduce a new display tray that you will be able to use to place your food into the display cabinets without it being a hassle to look good. The original system will still exist, but this will offer an alternative. As a bonus, the display trays will enable your employees to restock food items.
Update 1.1.3 Patch Notes
- Material tool now has access to another two properties; you can change the tiling size and smoothness of a material, giving the player even more control over how things look.
- The originally placed floor materials should now be copyable
- When in move mode, doors on fridges and other furniture items are not openable.
- Reduce hitching when you rapidly change between modes by preventing full scene scans.
- Reduce the number of full scene lookups we do as a whole to reduce the chance of scene hitching
- Significantly reduced the amount of textures loaded in at any one point. It is almost a 1GB drop in texture memory usage, which should significantly help weaker devices in running the game.
- Added protections to the sink to help prevent dirty dishes from not getting washed by its routine.
- Significant optimization work to reduce GPU and CPU usage. Those with weaker devices should hopefully see a decent improvement in performance and less hitching.
- Replaced the way we drew outlines within the game to help improve performance and reduce memory usage.
On top of this, we have begun laying the groundwork for future updates by working on improving performance. Ensuring we have a good base will make adding more to the game later easier.
We are continuing to gather user feedback as we plan where to take the game forward!
Update 1.1.2 Patch Notes
- Re-implemented the material swap tools to be easier to use and provide more options. You can now use your own custom colors, rather than the swatches provided by us.
- Fixed the service, takeout, and checkouts from not being able to have their material changed
- Fixed the way the painting of materials works so painting a counter will copy all of its changes to the next one.
- Significant rework to the way the volumetric shader works to help improve its performance
- Implemented upscaling support using DLSS, FSR, and XeSS. This is useful for users with weak GPUs that support any of these. We are still working on performance improvements outside of this, particularly when it comes to CPU usage.
- Reworked and improved some of our UI
- Various miscellaneous work on improving performance of all systems.
The biggest feature we are introducing with this update is the tip jar. Your customers will automatically walk up and deposit there tip into the jar rather than dumping it on the table. This helps address one of the biggest pain points as you grow out your store.
On top of this, we have made an adjustment to move mode to make it easier to identify whether a customer or employee can actually reach something. If something is unreachable, you will see a little warning icon appear above it. Additionally, you can also now see where exactly the queues will go and how they reroute when you put furniture in the way.
You will also find a couple of new items to purchase, this includes a new variant of the counter, wider shelves, and a new stand alone storage shelf.
Outside of this, you will find that we have tackled a large number of bugs and will continue doing so. Please continue to provide us with any feedback or suggestions you have for Cup and Counter, it is very much appreciated by the two of us.
Update 1.1.1 Patch Notes
- Introduced a new tip jar. Once placed, customers will place their tips in here rather than leaving them at the table! It also enables you to get tips from takeout customers who typically just leave.
- Implement a new feature in move mode that will show when something isn't reachable by either the player or staff. Additionally it will show you where the queues will path.
- Reworked the way materials are applied to the counter tops to make them more optimal. This will enable us to easier to add more variations in the future and simplify how the corner pieces work.
- Introduced a variant of the straight counter without the shelf space
- Introduced two additional wider variants of the floating shelf.
- Introduced a storage shelf
- Fixed the way employees stations were being anchored to the floor to prevent them from trying to go to the second floor when they didn't need to.
- Prevent employees from seeing perfectly fine food as binnable.
- Fixed the delivery order ticket
- Fixed a localization error for Spanish
- Fixed some strings missing localization entirely
- Improved the muting while focus lost functionality to be more resilient
- Whole cakes will now actually age
- Coffee beans / bags no longer go off
- Tray using employees will now use them when cleaning up spoiled food and packing away dishes
- Solved an issue where employees using a tray could reserve more than they could actually hold
- An unused and still fresh cake piece can now be put in back with the whole cake
- Corrected the shipping label and icon on the service pass counter
- Rugs can now be placed down regardless of what might be on top of them. This means you don't have to move a table to just be able to put down a rug.
- The delivery phone is now wall mountable
- Employees should now throw out empty syrup bottles at the end of the day, or during a cleaning cycle.
- Add safe guards so a save made mid way through the day during a tutorial, won't cause the tutorial to soft lock
- Fixed an issue that could make placing stacks of plates into their holders more difficult than intended.
- Sink can now hold 20 items before it becomes full, rather than 10
- Tip piles now properly attach to the table rather than being left floating in the air if you moved the table
- Improve the trashing logic from the tray, should make it a bit harder to accidentally throw out the tray, while also handling more items better such as the cold cups.
- The blender jug now behaves more like the milk jug, you will only have to worry about washing it to start off a new drink if you didn't empty it.
This is a quick hotfix to address some issues with the checkout system that seem to have arisen from the updated save mechanism and employee behaviors.
On top of these fixes, we have begun work on improving the way we track stock into something that makes a lot more sense and is broader in what it tracks. Previously, items still in boxes could get ignored; then, some items like cakes could be ignored completely due to how we internally handle them.
If you are continuing to see issues with the checkout or any other systems, please post in the Steam discussion board, on our Discord, or via email to [email protected]
When you run into issues, if you could run a manual save and send it through to our email [email protected] it would be much appreciated.
You can find the save files within the following directory under the name "game_save_s1_manual.json" or "game_save_s1_auto.json".

Hotfix 1.1.0b Patchnotes
\ Corrected issues with the way stock is calculated to be clearer to the end player how much actually remains. With the original system, 50ml of milk would still be considered as one unit.
\ The display cabinets are now considered to be refrigerated zones, prolonging the lifespan of your baked goods and helping improve the hassle of shifting all your goods back and forth from the fridge
\ Employees are less likely to be fixated on a single task as they will no longer poll the task manager at more regular intervals. This was exacerbated with recent employee speed improvements, as there were idle behaviors that allowed them to move on to a different task. Employees will now move up to a higher priority task when it's safe for them to do so.
\ Corrected an issue that could cause a customer to appear temporarily not interactable at the checkout.
\ Added safeguards to prevent the checkout from unintentionally locking up an NPC
\ Solved an issue where timing could cause the checkout system to throw a null reference error when the next order is started faster than the current order is moved on.
Version 1.0.7 is now available!
The major change in this update is an overhaul of how the takeout system works. Originally, only one takeout order could actually be processed at once. The new system enables takeout orders to be created and placed on the takeout counter at any time. A customer will automatically walk up and grab their order when it's ready, regardless of their position in the queue.
We have also made some adjustments to make the Busy and Bustling customer flow rates significantly busier, as they now disable some of the caps we were implementing.
On top of this, we have a wealth of fixes included in this update, including improved employee behavior, blender reliability, simpler stock ordering, service pass improvements, and ingredient warnings.
We continue to try and act as fast as possible to deal with any feedback that comes in, please feel free to make a post on the Steam discussion board, email us at [email protected] or join our Discord.
\ Takeout orders are no longer forced to process one at a time. Any completed order can now be delivered immediately, and the correct customer will collect it even if they are further back in the line. This removes a significant bottleneck in the takeout system.
\ The stock screen now allows you to order individual items quickly and easily without having to order everything that is running low.
\ Removed several limiters from the new customer flow system on Busy and Bustling. These restrictions significantly slowed customer arrivals when the number of active orders exceeded certain limits.
\ Customer flow settings now make larger adjustments. You should see a much more noticeable difference between Relaxed, Normal, Busy, and Bustling.
\ Corrected an issue that could cause text to overflow on the customer hover panel.
\ Fixed an issue where drinks using unfrothed milk could never receive a rating higher than “GOOD.” This affected most drinks involving the blender.
\ Corrected an issue where an employee could force the player away from the checkout while the player was already handling a transaction.
\ Added additional safeguards to the price-loading logic to prevent failures when reading item prices.
\ Fixed the oat milk crate incorrectly displaying “Full Cream Milk Crate.”
\ Prevented delivery boxes from becoming stuck at the back door of the café.
\ Fixed a critical UI issue that prevented the game from showing which customer an item of food belonged to.
\ Made several changes to how employees are assigned to and operate the blender to help prevent soft locks. If this still occurs, please record it if possible and send the footage to us through Discord or at [email protected]
\ Corrected a UI issue caused by an accidental new line in the “Place Order” text.
\ Moved wanted-drink feedback from the order ticket into the feedback system accessible through the CupOS computer.
\ Cup size will no longer be displayed when only one cup size is available, such as with dessert drinks.
\ Employees assigned to cleaning will no longer repeatedly empty garbage bins and knock boxes. They will now wait until they are at least 75% full.
\ Employees will now only tidy loose milk items at the end of the night. This removes outdated behavior from when milk spoilage was calculated hourly.
\ Fixed broken or missing NavMesh cuts on certain objects that allowed NPCs to walk through or over them.
\ Added missing standing points to corner counter pieces.
\ Employees will now clean the blender after preparing a drink instead of leaving it dirty.
\ “OUT OF X” ingredient messages on the order bar will now only appear when that specific order does not have enough of the required ingredient.
\ Milk type is no longer lost from a milk jug after saving and reloading the game.
\ NPCs will no longer randomly hold their phones when presenting payment.
\ Improved the behavior of the service pass so prepared orders no longer appear as claimable.
\ You can now take cake slices from a whole cake while holding a takeout container.
