News Tower 1.0 has been out for 7 days already, and we have been actively monitoring and listening to your feedback and concerns.
Below is a detailed version of our first patch note, addressing multiple feedback you shared on Steam or on discord. The most requested ones are marked with this icon in the list: 🐻

Various performance optimizations have been done. This includes optimizations to the lighting system, employee rendering, UI, AI and much more. These changes will be noticeable in big and crowded towers. This area is still under active development and more optimizations will be made in the near future.
🐻 The printer paper prioritization has been tweaked. Employees fill up the printer a bit earlier and better. The required amount of paper that is necessary to print has also been slightly lowered, making it a little easier to reach the goal. (The automatic ordering of paper required for printing is not completely fixed yet in this patch. Enough paper will be ordered automatically by the end of the week, but not immediately at the start. In most cases the automatically ordered paper will be sufficient to keep up with the demand however. This will be improved upon in the next patch.)
🐻 The chances of multiple scoop tags appearing behind a Choose one path branch are now very close to zero. If you still encounter this, please send us a bug report.
🐻 The algorithm that decides on next week’s news pool has been improved to lower the chances of tags not appearing. This could be the case when you were doing a quest that required you to print more than one of the same tag. If you still encounter this issue, please send us a bug report.
🐻 We’ve added a “Disable Taxi Honk” setting in the audio section. Turning this on disables the taxi honk sound that is played when a reporter arrives back from a news item. The overall volume of the taxi honk has also been slightly lowered.
Production items in your tower will be spread out more evenly over multiple work stations. There was a slight miscalculation that would sometimes pile up too many items at a single desk.
Employees are a little bit less likely to wait for a long time at a tube or dumbwaiter. This is still an active area of development and if you encounter severe issues, please send us a bug report.
The article drawer and the build menu drawer now also respond to the scroll wheel when the pointer is over the gaps between the cards.
Durability and Cleanness desk icons now named as such respectively, instead of Info, which was shared by another button.
The leaderboard window used to close when clicking on the column headers or when scrolling and releasing the mouse when out of the window. With this version it will only close when you actually click outside of the window.
Reporter’s speech bubble comments in the newsbook hang around for a little longer. Making them easier to read. You can still click them away manually.
The sales, illustrator and cartographer employees will now also transport their finished items to the next desk or tube if it is on the same floor. Similar to other production employees.
The editing desk spawns a bit less trash.
Spoiler change
There was a part of the story missing which is that your uncle takes over the Empire Observer. You will now notice that at some point your uncle attempts to and eventually succeeds in taking over the Empire Observer. This will not happen in games where the Empire Observer was already beaten. This change is only “cosmetic” and does not affect gameplay at all.
Bug Fixes
Fixed a critical bug where the game would enter an invalid state and your save game would become corrupted if you have the Item Allowance popup open via a resupply desk, but then stash or sell that desk with that popup still open.
🐻 The sales desk is now buffable by items that can be placed on the floor. For example, the Ledger Cabinet.
Fixed an internal error that could occur if an old score file was present in the file system. This could possibly cause your score screen to keep appearing and other unforeseen side effects.
Fixed a critical bug that could lock the game during the recap sequence when you previously had an Ad Boycott active.
In some rare cases it was possible for trash to appear in your tower which wasn’t cleanable until you restarted the game. This is fixed.
Fixed a bug where the "Print completely left or right" requirements would not complete successfully in some cases.
On some systems, for example if your system locale is Turkish, some letters would disappear in news article titles.
Fixed mobsters arriving in a car having the wrong animation. They weren’t meant to be waving at you.
Fixed the white squares appearing when making page combos with certain purple tags.
Fixed competitor scoop tutorial never triggering on competitive districts.
The newsbook introduction addressed your reporter with he but should be she. For now this is only fixed in English.
Fixed Staff board unassigned toggle text not reflecting in tower employees properly.
When you’ve beaten one of the competitors, the new tower unlocks immediately instead of needing a game restart.

Improvements
Improved estimation times for automated desks:
We have improved the estimation times displayed for automated desks. Timers now better reflect the actual remaining work time, even if an employee takes a break during item creation. Pneumatic tube setups will no longer throw off these estimates.
Bug Fixes
Fixed “What a Mess” Introduction Issue:
Resolved a bug where the first introduction bullet could be skipped and cause a soft lock.
Fixed Chain Item Stalling in Long Tubes:
Chain items will no longer get stuck in pneumatic tubes in setups spanning 8+ floors. Even after reroutes or mid-transit saves.

With the Going International update out, we've been closely following your feedback and making adjustments to improve your newsroom experience. This patch brings a mix of improvements and bug fixes to ensure your global expansion runs smoothly! Along with more natural employee behavior and fine-tuned mechanics, we’ve also added Steam Cloud Saves, so your progress stays with you wherever you go. Let’s dive into the details!
🛠️ Improvements
- Steam Cloud saves have been added.
- Production employees now only help with the transportation of chain items that are supported by their assigned work station.
- Added new Europe and Passive Desk traits to calendars throughout the game.
- Tags on guides and quest pop-ups are now clickable, allowing you to sort the article side drawer.
- The Popcorn Machine is now prestigious.
- Floor construction prices have been lowered.
🐛 Bug Fixes
- Fixed the “Above the Fold” quest requirement, which was displaying x2 instead of x3. It now correctly shows x3, in line with the front-page top slot.
- Fixed Travel Discounts that were not applying the correct 50% discount.
- Fixed a bug where the South American continent lock was visible for a split second when navigating between Europe and North America.
- Fixed a bug where some news items were prematurely removed from the globe before all potential story files were processed.
- Fixed an issue where the Hiring Board icon in the main HUD continued to display the exclamation mark for new applicants even after opening the Hiring Board.
- Fixed an issue where the soap bar could be placed on the wall on top of another object.
- Fixed an issue in the newsbook where the employee tab overlapped the speech bubbles of assigned reporters.

This small patch brings fixes for some of the issues you encountered in the game. Thank you all once again for bringing them to our attention.

BUG FIXES
- Utility employees now also have prestige, as they should!
- Telegraphing audio hang bug fixed, the sound will no longer play more than intended during the recap sequence.
- Comfort hang bug fix. Comfort wouldn't update anymore when you had many of the same objects in certain tower layouts.
- AddOn trait exploit bug fix. It is no longer possible to unassign and reassign somebody with a trait that adds a stat and keep on adding that.
- Fixed an issue that led all reports to go to a single desk in rare cases, by introducing a cap on "extra estimation time" due to employee inactivity to 12hrs.

KEY ADDITION
Auto resource ordering (Paper, Coal and Food)
- This new feature takes away the burden of needing to order resources manually. You can buy these as upgrades on the NYC map and opt in per resource type. The system will make sure there is always enough available! Do keep in mind that your resupply workers will still need to keep up with the pacing!

IMPROVEMENTS
- Overall the transportation AI should be a little smarter. A new feature is that the placement of the resupply desk influences which resources get prioritized. For example, placing a resupply desk close to the printer will hint the employee to mainly resupply your printer with paper.
- Placement of the supply desk matters. Supply employees prefer targets that are closer to their desk.
- Resource transport AI improved.
- Repairing + sweeping AI also improved. They prioritize better, also dependant on the proximity to their desk. But if you drop them next to something, they will work on it.
- Toilet visits and food visits prefer the same floor or close floors a little more, being a little more tolerant to queues.
- Placement of the supply desk matters. Supply employees prefer targets that are closer to their desk.
- Elevator group letters: Another feature that helps to avoid mistakes. All elevator doors that belong to the same system share the same letter on their display.
- Printer requires a little less paper. Used to be one crate per 5000 sales. Now is one crate per 7500 sales.
- Tiered resource discounts: Instead of a single 25% discount on paper, coal and food, the discounts have been split up into 10, 20 and 30 percent.
- Unreachable room warnings: A new icon that shows up if a room is unreachable for your employees. This can help to prevent mistakes in your tower’s design!
- Globe filter lights now always show red when that category is depleted, even when the button is not engaged.
Audio
- “New Actions possible” and reward suitcase in news now have a notification sound.
- Fixed audio ping sometimes playing on load games.
- Eating audio for all eating related objects.
Miscellaneous
- Splash screen is now skippable.
- Mouse cursor is hidden on splash screen.

BUG FIXES
- Fixed telegrapher lamp morse code sound hanging when pausing the game.
- Fixed news stand only appearing after when the intro camera has settled.
- Fixed bug that occurred if you manually dragged a lawsuit and it expired right at that time causing a corrupted game state.
- Duplicate Triumphant tag for Great Neck district is removed.
- Fixed newsbook expire time display not displaying LINE CLOSED on last hour before expiration.
- Lots of news items have had a dot (.) at the end of the subtitle removed, as this looks strange on the newspaper.

IMPROVEMENTS
User Interface
- The main menu has been updated:
- Improvements to the Load menu:
- The game versions a save was created in is now displayed.
- Autosaves are now displayed next to the corresponding game.
- The month is now also displayed.
- The game versions a save was created in is now displayed.
- A new “Score” menu has been added, allowing players to review their past score screens shown at the end of December 1932.
- The Settings menu has been revamped.
- Improvements to the Load menu:
- The Score screen at the end of December 1932 now displays the “Total Net Earnings” graph.
- In-game hamburger menu has a new style.
Elevators
- Elevators are weighted better now, employees chose their path more wisely regarding stairs or elevator. An elevator becomes more attractive the more floors an employee has to travel. If an employee only has to go one floor, taking the stairs is often preferable (but not always, depending on how close the elevator is to the target).
- Elevator doors close faster.
Audio
- Audio added for: Newsbook opening, the unlock of story files, UI tracing links for both the Newsbook and the Area Map, and when employees level up.
Miscellaneous
- Silver tags don’t appear before March 1930 anymore.
- Trash discomfort range is a bit shorter.
- Employee bubble for a lawsuit has a tooltip now that says “Lawsuit”.
- AI regarding transportation has had a slight overhaul. Resupply can carry a max of 3 crates, > lv 3 = 2 crates, from level 9 is 3. This only applies to paper, coal, food and lawsuits.
- An animation has been added for the floor addition.

FIXES
- We've implemented a change that prevents the same news article title from appearing twice in a single week. No more duplicate headlines!
- Pressing space bar while changing employee name no longer pauses the game.
- Protester guide icon displays "Protesters" as tooltip instead of Mobsters.
- Bug fixed where the ad menu would block when it had multiple pages.
- Fixed intro postcard input field getting selected after confirming newspaper name.
- FMOD upgraded from 2.02.04 to 2.02.20, should fix the no sound issue some people reported.
- Some minor issues regarding confirm dialogs have been fixed.
- Fixed some animation glitches when an employee is holding an item.
- Employees that were holding an item when the game got saved: when the game is loaded again, they would wander around without a goal at first, often dropping their items or taking a detour. This should be fixed now.
- Fixed the annoying automatic desk pickup when selecting an object while zoomed out pretty far
- Fixed the 15th floor crash. Max floors is 31 now and the crash will never happen because adding gets blocked.
- Various minor fixes.

Hello hello to all newsbearers above and beyond!
Today we are implementing this hotfix to address the problem where in certain situations the loading and saving of a game will take a very long time. If your game was affected by this, saving it again with this patch should solve the issue.
This issue was reported to us respectively by both KnightModern and Cueball on Discord:
"After turn 30+, it's way longer to save the playthrough, load the save, and advance to the next week, sometimes it's crashed when trying to save and the new save became corrupted."
"I dunno why I'm still playing, but I'm on Day 67, and saving the game is getting laggy."

Here is a quick hotfix to address 2 bugs that stemmed from this morning's update!

Bug 1
It happens if you have 2 page modules connected with a belt:
- Stash the left one
- Place back a corner or a page module on the left side and reconnect
- Now move the page module on the right to another floor, causing the link to break
What happens is that the "stash" is passed on to objects that are connected. If they then get removed, they will "stash" instead of a regular remove.
Fix 1
The fix now is that this flag gets cleared after a build action (which is what must happen!).

Bug 2
The 'invalid build object save game' issue had to with the printer belt's collider that became larger with the earlier update we implemented. Consequently, air vents positioned partially behind it were now registering collisions with the printer belt. This adjustment affected many of you who constructed their towers this way.
Fix 2
A quick fix has been implemented: collision checking is now disabled when loading a game.
This adjustment poses no issue as the objects were initially placed without conflict, ensuring that they remain valid unless moved.
