About the Game
Features:
Unique visuals inspired by medieval manuscripts and medical books.
Hyper satisfying physical interactions with ingredients and equipment.
Sandbox style gameplay where you have many different avenues available, and it’s up to you to figure out the best way to complete each task.
Sell your potions to the townsfolk while roleplaying as a noble artisan, a greedy weasel, an occult dark master, or whomever else you may wish to be!
Work with all sorts of ingredients
Leaves, flowers, berries, roots, fruits, minerals, and a plethora of mushrooms are at the ready for your mortar and pestle. Just like espresso, the fineness of the grind matters!
Learn the art of potion making
Concoct your potion plan. Grind ingredients and carefully mix them in your cauldron. Heat the coals. Boil and stir. Add the base: water, oil, or… something else. Congrats on your first potion! Was it easy to learn? Now try mastering it!
Experiment and invent new recipes
Carefully plan your route via the Alchemy Map to combine different effects. Be mindful of common sense: you won’t find a market for a poisonous healing potion… right? Or would you?
Sell potions
Every day customers will come to your store looking for solutions to their problems. You will face consequences depending on what you decide to sell them. Attract guilds, befriend notable figures (or feud with them), gain riches and influence - and one day, you may even decide the fate of the whole town.
Buy ingredients or grow your own
Every alchemist needs ingredients, and there are many ways to get them! You can buy them from traveling merchants: it can be pricey, but successful haggling may save you some coin. Or take matters into your own hands and cultivate your very own enchanted garden. Grow a variety of ingredients, from vibrant herbs to exotic mushrooms and even magical crystals, each essential for brewing your unique potions!
Get creative with customization
Want to give your best potions a special look? Go for it! Change the bottle shape, label type, icon and colours. You can even give it a custom name and label description. Carefully arrange your unique potions to showcase them on your shop's shelves and tables... or go a step further and customize your shop itself! Choose from a variety of furniture and shelving to give your alchemy shop a personal touch that matches your style. We won't tell you what to do, just have fun!

Steam Patch Notes
Official update history
Greetings, Alchemists!
We’re pleased to share with you today that the 2.0.2 “Hotfix” Patch for Potion Craft is now here. This planned hotfix ended up not being quite as ‘hot’ as we’d initially intended, as we had a few more things to fix than we’d originally thought (sorry!). We’ve fixed the most crucial bugs and issues, and tweaked the balance a bit – so if you’ve already finished a playthrough on Suffering difficulty, it might be time to do it again for even more of a challenge (don’t really do that, Suffering difficulty is not recommended for anyone!).
We’ve also added some cool Steam Community Items, like cards, avatars, backgrounds, and more – keep reading to find out more!
Of course, we’re still working on lots of other fresh content for Potion Craft, too – head to the end of the post to learn more about that.
Patch Notes
Balance
Customers are now a bit more reasonable with their additional requirements:
Sometimes they asked for impossible potions with incompatible additional requirements like Wine Base + No Salt + Tier 3 effect that needs turning on Wine Map. This led to cases where you couldn’t serve a customer on harder difficulties, where additional requirements are mandatory.
We like how customers are being know-it-alls, unbearable and picky sometimes, but we still want to keep every potion theoretically possible (even if it’s a Fable-Bismuth-only concoction with 5 effects!)
Crystal Grotto can now be purchased much earlier (in Chapter 4 instead of Chapter 5). Your Crystal Seeds will be happy!
Fixed Seeds prices:
Phantom Skirt Seed price was too high.
Plague Stibnite Seed price was too low.
Selling potions directly to merchants is now less effective. It will now be a bit harder to grind money by selling many potions to merchants:
Price multiplier 25% → 20% (without talents)
Price multiplier 37.5% → 30% (with 2/2 levels of “Selling Potions to Merchants” talent)
Difficulties balance tweaks:
You get less harvest from garden plants on harder difficulties.
You get less experience on harder difficulties.
NPC “price profitability” multiplier is changed for Grandmaster difficulty.
Using Wild Growth and Stone Skin potions on plants to accelerate growth is now restricted to one potion per plant per day even for growing (not adult) plants. There will be now a little bit less fertilizing and little bit more reason to get Quick Growth talents.

Difficulties Balance (or “More Suffering”)
We collected your feedback on harder difficulties and adjusted the balance accordingly.
Grandmaster. Grandmaster difficulty seemed a bit greedy on gold, but at the same time it felt that there’s too much profit from the garden plants, so we tweaked both parameters a bit. We also give now less experience, so it’s a bit more challenging to get new talent points:
Price profitability: 25% → 40% (now easier to get gold)
Amount of ingredients when harvested from garden plants: 100% → 50% (less free ingredients)
Amount of experience gained: 100% → 75% (slower levelupping)
Suffering. Suffering difficulty is terrible and annoying. But it turned out that it’s not enough! Garden was a bit too overpowered on this difficulty, and it was pretty easy to grind all the levels to get all the necessary Talents:
Amount of ingredients when harvested from garden plants: 100% → 25% (much less free ingredients)
Amount of experience gained: 100% → 50% (slower levelupping)
Because of the new difficulty multiplier some garden talents now may not give any effect unless you upgrade it several times (you will see it in the tooltip).
Also note that selling potions to merchants is nerfed (see Balance section for more), so it will be a bit harder to gain gold, especially on harder difficulties.
Don’t forget that Suffering Difficulty is still not recommended for anyone, and now even more not recommended for anyone than before. Please don’t play it – you will suffer (even more now with the new patch).

Quality of Life and Accessibility (or “We listened”)
Autosave is now automatically created when you quit the game or start a new game.
You can now disable sparkle effects in “Settings / Accessibility Settings / Disable sparkle effects”. This option can be useful for photosensitive players and players who hate sparkles.
Plants in the Garden are now more compact – they can be placed a bit closer to each other. You can now fit all 58 types of different plants (and even more!) in the Garden, so you don’t have to choose the outcast that didn’t fit the Garden before. You’ll probably have to do some rearranging, but it’s worth it!
Potion Bases can now be selected through tabs on the Alchemy Map. Those tabs work as Recipe Book tabs – you can move them around and even put them on the left side of the Map. Old method also works – click on the current tab to see the selection menu with the names of Potion Bases.

Bug Fixes

KeyNotFoundException error is now fixed (yaaaaay!):
Saves that didn’t load because of this error now should load fine as well.
The error happened if you pressed the Right Mouse Button on the room navigation button, which skipped one room and bugged if it ended up in a locked room (like Pond or Grotto before buying the room).
Right Mouse Button now works as Left Mouse Button with room navigation buttons.
Watering can now won’t disappear if thrown from the inventory in specific cases and is protected from going out of bounds of the room:
All your lost watering cans are now found and returned – don’t forget you can buy even more watering cans and store them whenever you want in your shop, so visitors know you are wealthy and can afford as many watering cans as you like!
Fixed an error that happens when you try to load the save where the item is stuck in the locked room (for instance if the Watering Can in the Pond before unlocking the pond).
Fixed a rare bug with furniture placement that caused saves to break. Saves should now work fine.
GUIs (dialogue window, trade window, haggling window) now have hover priority over items behind it (like Potions on Shelves).
Recipe Book button collider now should work correctly and won’t gain size error (which caused clicking Recipe Book instead of hovered button near it).
Text reaction to a potion that uses any base other than a particular base (e.g. Oil) is now correct.
Fixed bug/exploit that led to creation of potion without any ingredients (sorry!). Old exploited recipes with no ingredients won’t be removed – you can keep them as trophies :)
Price tags in the trade menu now have the correct size.
Fixed issue caused by using touch screen.
Save/load during the Tutorial will now work correctly and won’t soft-lock the player.
Fixed text for Nord’s fourth potion order when he returned for the second time. Text was for the third order instead of the fourth one, which confused some players and misguided them if they didn’t complete the request on the first visit.
Fixed a bug that led to falling ingredients inside the mortar through the mortar.
Many text and localization issues are fixed.
Fixed visual bug with sparkles.
Fixed visual bug with numbers in the Right Panel.
Aaaaand many-many-many other bugs were fixed on the way. Let’s hope we fixed more than created new ones :)
Secret stuff
Developer mode debug button that adds ingredients now adds 100 instead of 10. Very important one.
Important notes
If you’re not seeing the updates, please ensure you’re not using Steam Betas by opting out so you are in the Default Branch. To do this, navigate to Potion Craft in your Steam library, then click the cog on the far right of the page (or Right Click on Potion Craft in Library), and select ‘Properties…’ from the dropdown menu that appears. You should now see a pop-up window with ‘Betas’ on the left-hand-side of the screen. Select this section, then ensure the dropdown menu next to ‘Beta Participation’ is set to ‘None’.
If this doesn’t help, restart Steam – this will help to fetch the update faster.
If you are playing with mods, please make sure to remove all mods before updating the game. If you’ve used any mods, the game can break, and we won’t be able to help with such problems. If you encounter any errors, please make sure you didn’t use any mods (even if it was once and a long time ago) before sending a bug report.
Steam Community Items
We’ve now got a bunch of new Steam Community Items for you to enjoy!
Here’s the full list of everything that you can now get through playing Potion Craft (trading cards) or buying for points in the Potion Craft Points Shop:
15 trading cards

What is in development right now?
We know this patch doesn’t feel as meaty as some of our previous ones, and might not be exactly what you were expecting, but the team is hard at work on a lot of new stuff at the moment – with this patch being just one of them (and not the biggest!): there’s a lot more to come from Potion Craft, including a large (maybe you’d even call it ‘Monstrous’) Update 3.0, which we’ll be showing you Parts of in our upcoming Devlogs.
We’ve already put a lot of work into new features and content, and we are very excited to finally show you some of it and see your thoughts and feedback – just give us some time and enjoy the Patch and new Steam Community Items so far, and we’ll be back with some Devlogs in a jiffy.
We also know that a lot of our Console players are concerned about the 2.0 update and when it will become available for you. We appreciate your patience on this and we are working on it – here’s some more information for Console players.
Enchanted Garden 2.0 free update for Potion Craft is finally here! We have lots of exciting new content and features which we think you’ll love. Shall we take a closer look?
New Enchanted Garden
We’ve changed the way gardens work in this update to give you more control than ever over what ingredients you’ll be able to produce, and we think you’ll be pleased with the results!
Now, you will be able to choose what to plant in your Enchanted Garden, and will need to care for your plants by watering them before you harvest your ingredients. This means that you’ll be able to better manage your stock levels for ingredients you’re using frequently.
This update will also unlock new areas for your garden which will allow you to harvest non-plant ingredients: the Pond, Cave, and Crystal Grotto.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/39247742/290cd65d144d56d63882a7acecf8ea5348b97fba.gif
New Talent Tree
This update brings with it a whole new talent system, with over 50 new talents! Each new talent has its own unique effects ranging from levels 1 to 20, and there’s an additional talent which can be upgraded indefinitely.
We’ve also significantly rebalanced how experience is gained, with more experience granted for new actions. Talents will consistently cost 1 talent point per upgrade, so you should notice a discernible difference in how your talents are leveled up.
Plus, if you want to try a new combination of talents as you progress through the game, you can - in exchange for gold, talent points can be reset to allow you to experiment with the best combination for your playstyle!
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/39247742/c8a9820b317e00f1032d7c513facc87e93d2a45a.jpg
Build Mode and Shop Customization
No two alchemists are the same, and now your shop doesn’t have to be, either. In Update 2.0, you can now customize your shop! You’ll be able to rearrange furniture, utilize new decor options to optimize your space, and place shelves and other surfaces to allow you to display potions and other items.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/39247742/087e863281b651487d1ee23be268e33be9d9a554.gif
Difficulty Selection
Whether you’re a potion-making pro or prefer a slower pace, there’s a difficulty level for you in the latest update. We’ve introduced four difficulty levels to Potion Craft: Explorer, Classic, Grandmaster, and Suffering, to allow you to set yourself the level of challenge that you most prefer.
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/39247742/190f17cc87e3388bcde755ec68fe30fdea4f5e76.jpg
New Base: Wine
Sometimes, the perfect potion requires something a little stronger than water as a base…that’s why, in this update, we’ve introduced an all-new alchemical map with different mechanics based around using wine as a base for potions. Bottoms up!
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/39247742/0f78b21404eb1e35bfafbc3d43031e2b4b52c00b.jpg
New Characters & Merchants
From Adventurers and Brigands to Dave the Diver himself, there are various new customers and NPCs to interact with in this new update. We’ve also introduced brand new merchants, too, who will be able to offer you a range of goods as you progress through the game.

Legendary Recipes Saving and Rebalancing
The recipes in the Alchemy Machine have changed – they are less tedious now (compensation is waiting for you in your inventory). Find the new recipes for the Philosopher’s Stone and the salts, save them and create them directly from the Recipe Book.
Rebalancing, Quality of Life Changes, New Music and Sounds, and more…!
Of course, we’ve also got lots more changes in Update 2.0; from rebalancing legendary recipes and the final chapters of the Alchemist’s Path to new additional potion requirements and three new music tracks, there’s a lot to get excited about!
Find out more about all the changes you’ll discover in the full changelog, below, or simply update your game now to begin enjoying.
FAQ:
Will my old saves still work?
Yes, old saves are still compatible with the update! However, the game has changed a lot, and has been rebalanced, so we strongly recommend starting a new save for the best possible experience. That way, you’ll see all the new mechanics, new balance, new characters and new content as intended, and you will also be able to choose the best difficulty that fits your playstyle; it’s a lot of fun, we promise!
What about my old recipes for Legendary Substances?
We’ve tweaked the balance of Legendary Substances like Albedo, Citrinitas, various Salts, etc. They are now easier and make more sense, but you’ll have to come up with some new potion recipes for them. It’s also a good time to try a new feature – Saving Legendary Recipes (so you don’t have to create them all manually every time)! If you’ve already finished goals for Legendary Recipes and Salts in your save file, you’ll get the following compensation:
- Create Nigredo - Compensation: 2 Nigredo
- Create Albedo - Compensation: 2 Albedo
- Create Citrinitas - Compensation: 2 Citrinitas
- Create Rubedo - Compensation: 2 Rubedo
- Create Philosopher's Stone - Compensation: 2 Philosopher's Stones
- Create Void Salt - Compensation: 5000 Void Salt
- Create Moon Salt - Compensation: 5000 Moon Salt
- Create Sun Salt - Compensation: 10000 Sun Salt
- Create Life Salt - Compensation: 2500 Life Salt
- Create Philosopher's Salt - Compensation: 2500 Philosopher's Salt
What’s next for Potion Craft?
This is far from the end for Potion Craft; we’re continuing development, and you’ll see new Legendary Substances and Salts, Alchemical Gear Upgrades, Recipe Books, Ingredient Types and more!
From now on we’ll strive to keep you updated about the game development and its status and share more with the community. Thanks for your feedback and patience! We hope you’ll enjoy the new stuff!
For those of you who play Potion Craft with mods
Please remember to remove all mods before updating the game. If you’ve used any mods, the game can break, and we won’t be able to help. If you encounter any errors, please make sure you haven’t used any mods (even if it was once or a long time ago) before sending a bug report.

Quality-of-Life features and fixes:
- When you hover over ingredients while browsing a merchant’s goods you now see the number of those ingredients in your inventory in the tooltip. Now you’ll know for sure when you are out of Poopshrooms!
- You can now create potions by pressing its picture in the Recipe Book (as you could do with the craft panel on the Alchemy Map). Quick brew and put on the scales in one move!
- You can now hover over the Effect icon on the Alchemy Map to see the name of that Effect. Now you’ll know for sure what that blue paw icon meant!
- Now you can see wrongly filled vessels on a Legendary Recipe even if those vessels are not used in this recipe. No more accidental poops instead of Nigredo!
- Improved controller/gamepad controls and UX. Also the controller support setting is now turned on by default. Especially useful for Steam Deck players and those who want to chillax while brewing some quality concoctions using gamepad!
- Touch is now supported. Now grinding and throwing stuff around can be even more fun on Steam Deck!
- Restored the ability to use Enter and Numlock Enter as a Spacebar alternative in the Haggling mini-game! It used to be there before, but something went wrong :)
Optimization:
- General optimization. Everything should work better and faster!
- Higher FPS. No more slideshows – only a smooth and oddly satisfying experience!
- The game now uses much less memory. Now you probably won’t need to close all your browsers on a weak PC!
- Focusing/alt-tabbing the application won’t freeze the game anymore. Now the game refreshes the list of save files only when the Save/Load Menu is opened.
- Loading optimization. Game just loads faster and smoother. Simple as that.
- Application closing optimization. No more freezes and crashes when quitting the game!
- Lower hardware requirements. Tried the game before and it didn’t load? Try now – maybe now it’s playable for you!
Bug fixes:
- Most game mechanics are now framerate independent. It means that everything will work the same on different hardware as originally intended.
- The Haggling mini-game speed is now framerate independent. Changing FPS to 30 won’t make it easier (sorry!), but it will now work the same for everyone.
- The potion indicator moving speed from stirring with the spoon is now framerate independent. There was a huge difference between different hardware (for some too slow, for some too fast), now it’s balanced for everyone! By the way – don’t forget to heat the coals before stirring for faster movement ;)
- Philosopher’s Salt rotates the potion indicator correctly regardless of pouring speed.
- Fixed a game-breaking error caused by switching pages in the Recipe Book.
- Controller support setting now shouldn’t break mouse controls when turned on. It’s now turned on by default, so if you encounter some strange mouse behavior, please let us know.
- Fixed the bug that allowed duplicating potions and ingredients by hovering over a slot in the Alchemy Machine with an item in hand and quick saving.
- Now creating Legendary Substances via Alchemy Machine unlocks corresponding achievements after the Machine finishes working (used to unlock on start). No more spoilers!
- Fixed an error that happened when a player created a very long path for a potion by using a large amount of ingredients.
- Gamepad – GUI element with price above the scales now selects only if it’s not hidden.
- Gamepad – sometimes the cursor selected invisible items from the inventory (when they were near the Recipe Book button).
- Gamepad – “Brew this recipe“ button deselects when RB or LB pressed.
- Fixed a game-breaking error that happened when going in the main menu while navigating between rooms.
- Fixed cursor twitching while navigating between rooms.
- Fixed the bug that prevented the game from loading for the first time in some rare cases (endless loading issue).
- And many other bug fixes.
Other minor changes:
- Changed the versioning system for builds.
- Loading screen: added coloring for the “empty“ part of the loading circle.
- Updated colors and icons for additional potion quest requirements in the met state.
- Now the “Save recipe” button becomes active right after you click the “Continue brewing from here” button in the Recipe Book, allowing duplication of existing recipes. Can be useful in some rare cases.
- Long texts in the Main Menu don’t scale down anymore, and they look much better. Can be pretty long now!
- Added XP icon on the Tooltip while hovering Level Button.
- “Haggle” Button and “Start Haggling” Button texts now can use 2 lines if the text is long.
- Collecting Green bonus in Haggling Minigame now triggers fade animation of this bonus.
- Esc button now skips Night animation.
- Logs now have more useful info for debugging. Can be helpful if we need to dig into a particular issue to find a solution and/or release a hotfix.
- Redesigned error screen – it now contains more useful debug info. Can be helpful when helping players with particular issues and analyzing errors without sending logs.
- Added hourglass animation when closing the game to show that closing in progress (so you know that the game didn’t crash, it just needs some time)!
- Small UI fixes and tweaks.

What’s next:
We are working on a substantial update, “Garden 2.0”, planned for release in 2024 (we don't have a specific release date yet, as it's still in deep development)! This update will introduce new rooms including a pond, a mushroom cave, and a crystal grotto. The update will also bring new garden mechanics and planting management, along with a new talent system and other exciting features!
Here’s some devlogs about what’s in development:
– Garden 2.0: New Plants System
– Garden 2.0: Planting and Replanting
– Garden 2.0: Potion of Wild Growth
– Garden 2.0: Room for Growth
– Garden 2.0: New Plants
– Talents 2.0
– And there will be more devlogs soon!
Follow the development:
It’s a patch for the previous patch 1.0.3. This patch is so powerful, that we even skipped one number in the version!
Patch notes:
- Retroactive achievements (this time for sure)! You asked – we listened, simple as that! No more need to replay the game again to get that pesky achievement for Completing Chapter 1 (and tons of other ones). Just load your game, and you’ll get all the achievements you deserve right away (except the Poop one – that you’ll have to remake).
- Fixed an issue that caused Global save file (that stores local settings like sounds volume and language) to have wrong extension (*.pcsave instead of *.psgsave) and sync via Steam Cloud.
Thank you so much for your constant feedback and continued support! We really appreciate it.

P. S. achievements may not unlock for some players in 1.0.3. This is fixed in the next patch.

If you previously played Potion Craft 0.5.0 and after updating to the 1.0 version, your save files don't appear automatically, you need to update the game. After restarting the game, the problem should be solved.
If the files still don't appear after updating, don't worry – your save files are not gone. You need to transfer them manually. Open a file explorer window and paste this path in the navigation bar:
%AppData%\..\LocalLow\niceplay games\Potion Craft
OR
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\LocalLow\niceplay games\Potion Craft
That should take you to a folder with your save files. Copy the contents of the Saves folder into the SavesSteam folder, and then restart your game. If you still experience the issue, please let us know in the comments or on our Discord server – Discord.gg/PotionCraft.

Release Notes for Potion Craft 1.0
General
- 400 new unique potion orders (orders are different for different visitor classes). Most of the orders can be completed in several ways (for example, 'Explosion' or 'Strength').
- 26 unique quests for Herbalist, Mushroomer, and Dwarf Miner that upgrade their assortment and develop relationships with them.
- New Haggling topics – 17 ways to convince customers to pay even more! Chat with Herbalist about herbs! Show wizards that you know something about magic! Keep up the conversation with bandits by talking about assassination!
- You can now roleplay a 'bad guy' – choose a dark path to serve rogues and evil wizards.
- The Tutorial can now be skipped.
- New customization icons: legendary substances and salts.
- More relevant ingredients in additional quest requirements.
- Some 'Evil' customers now look even grumpier than 'Good' ones.
- All ingredients now have correct (and sometimes funny) descriptions.
- Other small improvements.
Balance
- Haggling on Hard (4) and Very Hard (5) difficulties is now much easier.
- More balanced reputation calculation. Now you need to choose who to serve, or you can lose your 'Good' or 'Evil' reputation pretty fast. Serving everyone will keep you near 0 reputation, serving only 'Evil' customers will bring you to -100 eventually, and serving 'Good' people will bring you to +100, but much slower than before. Every customer 'skip' will cost a lot of reputation now, so be prepared to serve every person if you want to keep moving towards 100.
- You will now have 12 empty Recipe Book pages instead of 6 at the start. Old players will get 6 bonus ones as well.
- Some old potion orders are now neutral (neither 'Evil' nor 'Good').
- Ingredient prices are now higher (×2) for better experience.
- You now need slightly more popularity per each popularity level.
- You get significantly more (×2-2.5) salt from crafting it in the Alchemy Machine.
- Small gold/popularity rebalance for some additional order requirements.
UI and UX
- New incredibly handy inventory sorting (Read the devlog here).
- You can now quick-brew from the Recipe Book even if you are already brewing something in the cauldron.
- Trading: if you have enough money only if you haggle well, you will now see what difficulty you need to haggle on.
Controls
- Toggle fullscreen/windowed mode with Alt+Enter.
- Controller layout can now be changed to 'swapped' in 'Settings/Controls'.
- Better controller controls.
- Controller is now disabled by default. To enable it go to settings and turn it on (it's a temporary solution to prevent some weird bugs, which will be fixed later).
Bug fixes
- Fixed a bug that prevented some merchants (Alchemist, Dwarf Miner, Traveling Merchant) from coming to the shop.
- Fixed a bug that caused customers to react incorrectly on completed additional potion requirements (weak potions etc.).
- Fixed a bug that caused players to gain free XP near the edges of a map.
- Fixed a bug that caused incorrect profit calculation when bartering (when there are items on both scales).
- Localization fixes.
- Fixed a lot of other not-so-interesting bugs.
Optimization
- The game now loads much faster and doesn't freeze on the loading screen.
- The game will now require less RAM.
- FPS should now be higher.
- Less freezes during gameplay.
- Other optimizations.
Steam Features
- 29 achievements.
- Steam Cloud support.

What’s up with my save files?
Previously, we've talked about why save files were incompatible with different versions and why we had to reset the alchemists' progress in the game. This time around, with update 0.5.0, we're going to do it one last time. This version will serve as the foundation for all future updates to the game, which means you will no longer have to start the whole game from the beginning after another major Potion Craft update.
However, you will always be able to go back to the previous game versions via the Steam beta functionality. If you wish to continue playing the game with your current save files, you can select version 0.4.7 in the game's Steam settings via the beta functionality.
- Saves from version 0.4.7 are incompatible with 0.5.0, but all future updates will be backward compatible with saves from 0.5.0 and above.
- If you want to play the actual game version, you'll have to start over – we recommend you do so because the game now offers many new features and content.
- The saves from version 0.4.7 will not be gone; they will be displayed as incompatible with the current version of the game.
- If you're not ready to start the game all over again now, you can roll back to 0.4.7 and play your old saves.
How to roll back to version 0.4.7
If you are not ready to start a new game now, you can continue the old game, but to do this you will have to roll the game back to version 0.4.7. This is done through the game settings in Steam:
- Right-click Potion Craft in your Steam Library.
- Click Properties.
- Click the Betas tab.
- Select a version from the dropdown menu.
What if I was in the beta branch?
If you have already played 0.5.0 via the Steam Beta branch, nothing will change for you. The Beta branch will no longer be available and the main branch will be 0.5.0.
As mentioned above, bugs, instability, and poor optimization in version 0.5.0 will be present in the game for a while, but we will be releasing an update very soon which will fix and improve everything. It won't be long now!
The game won't start after an update / works poorly. What to do?
The new version of the game is heavier and not optimized yet, so it may take a very long time to load, and on some computers, it may not run at all (even if it worked fine before). We are aware of this and will fix most of the issues in the upcoming update. Here's what you can do now:
- If the game takes a long time to load, give it some time (don't click on the screen, just wait for the loading screen to pass). It can take up to 10 minutes to load on some computers.
- If you get a message that the software is not responding - this is normal, just wait for the app to load.
- If the game crashes, it is likely that your computer is not powerful enough or you have too many other applications running. Try closing all other applications.
- If you have strange bugs and you installed any mods previously, please delete them. If you don’t know how to delete mods, uninstall the game and re-install it again. Your saves will not be deleted as they are in a folder that is not associated with the game's install/uninstall process.
- If your FPS is low, try zooming in on the map in the lab as much as possible. This will improve the FPS.
- If you still can't launch the new version of the game for some reason, you can roll back to the old version 0.4.7, and play it (instructions above).
What’s next?
We can't wait for the doors to the world of Potion Craft to open and for you to try out all the new features we've been working on! We will be sure to bring you more details when the time comes. For now, update to version 0.5.0 and start stocking up on materials and gold for when all the locals flood into your shop looking for that very special potion!
