About the Game
Rogue Legacy is back! But now it's got a 2 on the end of it!
Rogue Legacy 2 is a genealogical rogue-LITE. That means it has all the trappings of a typical rogue-like (randomized runs, changing characters, and more), but with persistent upgrades, and persistent dead heirs. In this game, your legacy defines you. Spend your parents’ inheritance and grow the family manor to give your children a better fighting chance. Each child is unique, with their own traits and abilities. Your daughter could be a Ranger. She could also be vegan. It’s a new experience every time. Rogue Legacy 2 also lets you play how you want to. Go hard and fast, and dive deeper into the depths of a randomly-generated world. Or take it slow and steady and build your character up until you’re ready for greater challenges.

Every Adventure is Unique
New monsters, new traps, and new layouts await you every time you enter the Kingdom. This is a world where improvisation, and not memorization is the key to success.Wildly New Classes
No two classes play the same. Hide atop Ivy Canopies as the Ranger, and rain poisoned arrows down onto your foes. Take to the skies as a Dragon Lancer and fly across the skies striking foes at massive speeds. Or sing and dance through your enemies, as the joyous bard, leaving only a trail of bodies behind you. Rogue Legacy 2 supports 15 new classes, with 15 distinct styles of play.
Brand New Style
We’re taking a whole new artistic approach to Rogue Legacy 2. The sequel features 2.5D stylings, with 3D characters against hand-drawn backdrops. The art uses heavy shading and all animations are done using stepping techniques to keep the familiar RL look and feel.Revamped Biome Generation
We went all-out with biome generation to make each area in RL2 feel completely new. Each biome adopts different “build strategies” to create completely unique yet-still-randomly-generated regions.
True Metroidvania
To really push the metroidvania flair, RL2 introduces heirlooms: special items that permanently give your heroes new abilities that fully reveal the world’s secrets. These are not basic lock-in-key abilities, but powers that fundamentally change how you play. And heirlooms are not simply handed to you. You must prove your worth, provided you can find them.Traits 2.0
Though fun the first time, the traits in RL1 often wore their welcome later in the game. We’ve now added gold modifiers to entice players to take on new challenges. The more debilitating the trait is (in-game), the bigger the reward. This makes choosing your heirs a meaningful decision every time.Relics and Resolve
One of the most exciting new features to Rogue Legacy 2 is the ability to pick up Relics, which are unique items that change how your run is played. Gain stat modifiers, complete special challenges, and even gain brand new abilities as you traverse the kingdom. But be careful, the more Relics you obtain the more your resolve is shaken, and all Relics are lost if your hero perishes.
Improved Accessibility
We’ve taken accessibility to the next level with the introduction of House Rules. Toggle contact damage, tweak global damage and health, and even give yourself flight for difficult platform sections. You have complete control over how you want to play the game. We’ve also introduced new mechanics such as Off-shore Banking to give struggling players more ways to succeed.A Rich Narrative
Not only is the lore to the world of Rogue Legacy greatly expanded in the sequel, but it runs deep. New lore awaits you all the multiple NG’s in. Beating the game once is only the beginning. Learn about the inevitable collapse of a once thriving kingdom, and discover the dark secrets of the ones responsible. And connect and build relationships with the characters you meet along the way.New Game+ for Days
Your journey has only begun after beating the final boss in RL2. There is a ton more to explore and discover on multiple playthroughs. You must choose how the game gets harder, from unique biome hazards, to special boss fights. The experience keeps changing for near infinite replayability.More of Everything
Of course we’re also adding more of everything people loved from the original Rogue Legacy. More traits, more spells, more classes, more biomes, more enemies, more equipment, more rooms, more story. More secrets... Just more everything.Clownanthropy.

Holy smokes! Punching clowns!
AND THERE'S A WHOLE LOT MORE. This only scratches the surface of what Rogue Legacy 2 has to offer. Scar Challenges, Fairy Rooms, the Curio Shoppe, the list goes on, but reading is for nerds. Go out and discover the world of Rogue Legacy 2 for yourself!

Up to date
It’s been nearly two weeks since the launch of the Swan Song Update, and we’re very happy with where things are for Rogue Legacy 2’s final content release. True Rogue is now more manageable (albeit still very hard), the new Fabled Weapons have been balanced to fit better with the game’s other abilities, and other random rough edges have been smoothed out. To wrap things up, we’re pushing one more minor patch that is focused purely on addressing the remaining bugs.

BUG FIXES
- Fixed bug where House Rules settings were not persisting between True Rogue runs.
- Fixed regression bug where Associative Agnosia was not being removed on Lamp enemies if you had the Nerdy Glasses.
- Fixed bug where Wisps would lose their darkness behind hidden walls if the player had Nerdy Glasses.
- Fixed crash bug if you tried loading a custom language that was not formatted correctly.
- Fixed bug where in some scenarios, the game would fail repeatedly to generate a world from a random seed, resulting in a never-ending loading screen.
- Fixed bug where surfboard music would continue playing on the Main Menu screen if you exited the game while surfing.
- Community: Fixed bug where surfboard music was kicking in too early. You now have to surf for 5.5s before the music kicks in.
- Reduced the music grace period when surfing to prevent the song from resuming too frequently.
- Fixed bug where the tinted background on the Profile Select screen did not fully fit the viewable area size.
- Fixed bug where if you killed a Void Touched Commander while the buff was active, the Void Tell SFX would still play.
- Fixed bug where the Lute explosion was not getting the damage mod icons applied to it when it dealt modded damage.
- Fixed bug where Mjolnir would sometimes stick to doors.
- Fixed bug where holding Immortal Kotetsu and then talking to Keres or Elpis would trigger the ability after the player finished speaking to them.
- Fixed a few minor issues with some randomly-generated rooms.
- Changed system language detection on initial startup to work more consistently.
GAME CLARITY UPDATE
Easing players into the new content a little bit better.
- New Sun Lantern Insight Quest to better direct players.
- New Training Dialogue from Lady Quinn about the Ronin and Bard class
- Player Card updated for better clarification.
- Clarification into the Overload Skill shop to explain that some skills are hard capped.
CRIT CHANCE UPDATE
The new mechanics are a lot to take in. New players are having an easier time then existing players where certain class builds are no longer as overpowered. We're buffing the crit skills to make it a little easier for the veterans to ease into the new mechanics while also making the game a touch easier overall.
- BUFF Scholar and Warden set Crit Chance bonus raised from 15% to 20%.
- BUFF Soulshop now unlocks 2 levels of Bonus Crit chance (instead of 1)
- BUFF Crit chance in the skill tree costs lowered.
- EARLY GAME BUFF Crit Damage in the skill tree raised from 1% to 2% per level (but hard cap lowered from 50 to 30)
- BUFF Players now start with 110% crit damage. This better explains the benefits of crit, while also giving early game players a nice little bump in damage.
- Katana has a more lenient skill crit window.
NG EASING
With a new biome added, players are reaching higher levels as they go into NG+1 and beyond. Enemies need to scale up accordingly, but small changes early on lead to big changes later. We'll ease in this leveling bump over the course of a few patches, to let people get their feet wet slowly.
- NG leveling bump lowered.
CRITICAL BUG FIXES
- Attempted fix of bug where Ronin's Skill Crit logic would not trigger until the game was restarted entirely.
- Fixed bug where Super Fluid trait was constantly being disabled.
- Changed Super Fluid to use the mouse cursor to aim, which can be toggled to keyboard input via game settings.
- Fixed bug where the first stack of the Dance status effect was always yellow.
- Fixed bug where Lamech's boss room was sometimes being considered an easy room, forcing him to be in his non-prime state even if the burden was enabled.
- Fixed bug where the Threads of Fate were closing on folks due to a previous bug fix, resulting in them not being able to remove the burdens they already had.
- Fixed bug where enemies could still spawn as Commanders in the first few initial rooms if they were previously a Commander in a different room.
- Lance magic damage should be applying on dash attacks again.
The last patch was in a pretty good state, however a few more issues came up so we’re taking the opportunity to address them. This isn’t the biggest patch we’ve ever released, but it does have some nice quality-of-life fixes and minor balance tweaks. Please note, we are aware some people are experiencing launch issues with the game as well as with monitor switching. The bug has been isolated as a problem launching the game in exclusive fullscreen with the engine we’re using, so playing in fullscreen borderless will avoid this bug entirely.
For players unable to run the game, please use these launch options before running it again:
-screen-fullscreen 1 -window-mode borderless -monitor 1
We’re trying our best to get it resolved, and we appreciate the patience.

GAME TWEAKS
- Hephaestus' Hammer:
- Damage slightly decreased.
- Now gains 2 mana per hit.
- Attack range reduced slightly.
- Damage slightly decreased.
- Enkindled Gauntlets:
- Explosion Radius reduced (this is a buff).
- Explosion Radius reduced (this is a buff).
- Burden of Blood correction: Burden of Blood was supposed to restore 250% of damage dealt to player back to the enemy as HP per burden. Instead it was implemented as 250% being the max HP restore after equipping all burdens. We are fixing this slowly by increasing the HP return per stack to 150% for this update, and will bring it to its fully intended 250% HP return in the patch after.
- The following traits have been changed:
- Community: Gigantism now gives 25% gold gain from Health Care.
- Community: Ectomorph now gives 25% gold gain from Health Care.
- Moving trinkets and other equipment to Gold chests drastically reduced odds of getting Ore. We are reverting this change so that Gold chests no longer drop equipment (they now only drop Ore and Empathies). Additionally, trinkets now appear in Silver chests.
- Some players, especially those who chose to skip dialogue, were getting stuck in the first part of the game when they had to find the Echo Boots. The following changes were made to address this:
- A new tutorial sequence was added to help guide player to the first Echo Heirloom, and to better showcase what type of game Rogue Legacy 2 is.
- A new tutorial popup was added to tower to explain Void Orb Dash Resetting.
BUG FIXES
- Community: Fixed a number of room issues including:
- Poor merging at the top of the tower (where you could jump up into a cloud).
- Enemy spawn points in a fairy room that were too close to walls.
- Certain scenario where two rooms could merge, resulting in an enclosed area that would corrupt the background scenery.
- Tower Boss Entrance room would create invisible platforms that blocked you from entering or exiting the room below.
- Poor merging at the top of the tower (where you could jump up into a cloud).
- Community: Enemies no longer take damage if the player is at 0 health, to address conflicts when the player and a boss die at the same time.
- Community: Status effects now apply to each of Irad's eyes separately, to fix issue of status effects applying triple the amount to him.
- Bosses are now immune to status effects during their mode-shift.
- Fixed bug where the Enemy Evolution burden was applying to more enemies than intended when entering a room.
- Community: Fixed bug where the Mage could get two of the same ability from the Curio Shoppe.
- Community: Fixed bug where death recap would sometimes display the incorrect amount of resources collected in a run.
- Community: Fixed bug where the backup save file window would cause a soft crash of the game if there were files in the backup folder that did not match the expected naming convention.
- Community: Fixed bug where Fate's Die was not displaying or calculating the number of kills correctly.
- Status Effect damage numbers will now trigger higher damage numbers with Hypochondriac trait.
- Community: Fixed bug where decos on a prop would not fall if the prop falls.
- Community: Fixed bug where a number of relics were triggering their abilities on status effects.
- Fixed bug where the Cartographer trait was resetting the visibility state of rooms you had visited.
- Selecting a teleporter to a different biome with the Cartographer trait no longer shows an invisible room.
- Increased the zoom speed of map when using mouse track wheel.
- Community: Attempted fix of Murmur turning during its death sequence.
- Community: Fixed bug where connect-to-slope logic was using velocity to determine slope raycast position, instead of facing direction. Fixes bug where Boxer jitters when hitting something while standing on a slope.
- Community: Lady Quinn's gravity is now disabled to prevent her from randomly falling. We were unable to provide a proper fix since we could not repro the falling bug.
- Community: Fixed bug where Hypercoagulation trait was still applying when the player got hit even though they were invincible.
- Community: Fixed bug where entering the Boss Entrance to the Sun Tower would display the wrong background if entered from a save file.
- Community: Fixed bug where player would enter the world with the darkness tint effect applied depending on the seed.
- Fixed bug where the delay that prevented enemies from attacking or dealing damage sometimes did not trigger.
- Fixed bug where hitting a spawned boss hard enough to trigger their second mode within a short period of time would prevent their logic from activating.
- Added new enemy sound effects.
- Added audio for the Drift House and its residents.
- Fixed bug where the Blacksmith would sometimes not show the "upgrade available" icon for categories with available upgrades.
- Community:Fixed bug where if you already purified one Pandora's Bargain relic, any subsequent Pandora's Bargains you picked up would only require you to kill one enemy before giving you the reward.
- Fixed exception bug caused by critting yourself with the Enkindled Gauntlets.
- Fixed bug where attacking an enemy projectile with Wind Wall would cause that projectile to play the wind wall death sfx multiple times. (Most noticeable with slug slime.)
- Community:Fixed bug where the Blessing of Life would say it deals a massively negative amount of damage if you have an unpurified Pandora's Bargain relic.
- Community:Fixed bug where entering a relic room would reset Coeus Shell.
- Community:Fixed bug where Blessing of Life would sometimes display incorrect damage amounts for Coeus Shell and Grave Bell.
