About the Game
In Solar Expanse, you take the lead of one of the early XXI century space exploration companies. Your goal will be to reach the planets, moons and asteroids of the system in order to mine and colonize them.
Optimize the costs and schedule of the flights. Mind that each object is in constant motion, so exact planning is crucial. Utilize the gravity effects and slingshot your rockets further beyond.
There is a multitude of objects in the asteroid belt alone. Some are made of water, others might contain precious metals. Deploy various telescopes, arrays and probes to know the system better and plan your next flights. Scan for the most profitable and useful materials. Research new technologies
Send your rockets and deliver the asteroids to Earth or colonies. Gain the profits to expand your corporation and start the projects on much larger scale.
In time, you will get contracts to establish permanent bases on various objects. Build fuel stations, launch sites, space catapults, elevators and entire colonies!
Your ultimate goal will be to make the moons and planets of different systems habitable. This task will take centuries, enormous resources, technologies and thousands of rocket flights. Drop the water asteroids from the asteroid belt on Mars. Mine Io and Titan for necessary resources.
Once you are done with the Solar System, build an interstellar ship. Once the game is fully released, you'll be able to venture into real and generated systems, such as Alpha & Proxima, Centauri, Trappist, Gliese & Kepler… you name them!

Official update history
Greetings, Space Explorers!
We have just released a new build with hotfix #3, 0.26.4.29.11 BETA to the default branch! It introduces some fixes, balance, and QoL changes! Give it a try! If you encounter any issues that make the experience worse for you, feel free to switch to the previous default build on the previous branch (right click on Solar Expanse in Steam library -> properties -> betas -> previous).
Changes:
- rebalanced difficulty levels
- rebalanced resource deposits on objects: Venus, Luna, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto
- rebalanced computing research
- unified deposits from dropped asteroids
- added ‘+’ button to modules in cargo (shift+click adds 10)
- added more information in SC and LV tooltips and panels
- default priority for facilities is 5, adjustable 0 to 10
- habitats spaces show occupancy
- balanced CO2 and water refining
- added 'Continue' button and autosave on quitting game
- replaced AI arts and Advisor with human-made assets
- added two music tracks
Fixes:
- cyclical mission bug causing transfers not to wait for filling up cargo
- randomising asteroid names after save/load
- research progress not saved while changing queue
- difficulty levels info not displaying correctly
- duplication method by space elevator unhooking from asteroid
- 'extreme toxicity environment' appearing when it shouldn't, causing habitability/supplies consumption issues
- "Mars 2050" achievement description clarified
- generated asteroids orbiting the void instead of the solar orbit
- pushing generated asteroids no longer teleports them
- fixed tutorial for "Trading on Earth"
- cyclical mission "on resource count" automatically adds resources
- incorrect Atlas requirements for asteroids
- visual trajectories of asteroids
- space elevators using fuel
- FPS drops
- incorrect mass for Phobos and Deimos
- major crashes and exceptions
- corrections in translations
Known issues:
- loading older saves with gameplays after dropping asteroids might cause the game to spawn a huge number of extra asteroids - new games started after the update don't have this issue
- orbital mirrors may reset on save/load
- Stratos flights from non-Earth objects to their orbit cost no fuel
- launching issues on multi-screen setups. See the FAQ topic for the workaround
- Earth deterraformation happens too fast
- some of the translations might be inaccurate
The following bugfixes might take longer as we're focusing on improving QoL and new features for our future milestone.
See you in space!

You’re not flying there blind! We’ve added new functions of exploration and discovery, which will give you information about what you can find on a chosen object. While it is not as accurate as sending a probe, the cost is significantly lower. At this point, you may ask: Why would I need resources on a different object?
Launch Vehicles and Spacecrafts
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/38448667/031c986d244184746f28a7bbb90362760dc0b77a.jpg
To experience as realistic space travels as possible, we have introduced the division of our rockets into:
- Spacecrafts (that travel through space, obviously).
- Launch Vehicles (that just deliver stuff to orbit). It can be a rocket, but also a spin launch system or electric catapult too. Or in the future - a space elevator.
Now you can adjust the cargo load and fuel necessary for your missions more efficiently, and be well prepared for any kind of space voyage!
Porkchop plot and updated mission planning panel

Speaking of missions - planning is now more detailed than ever before. It has been divided into convenient and intuitive sections to ensure easy setup. Moreover, we added a porkchop plot! This chart, used in actual space mission planning, will help you to choose a perfect launch window for your flight. The Axis represents the departure and arrival date, while the color represents the cost. Green line represents the Orbital Transfer Trajectory.

Don’t worry if you don’t get it - at the beginning, we didn’t either. Just click “Optimal” and the game will do the rest.
