Official update history
As part of last week’s Lofi Girl Collaboration update, we upgraded our underlying game engine. While this allows us to build a better future for the game, it also introduced some unexpected technical complexities. We’ve been closely tracking reports of "fatal errors" and crashes, and today's hotfix aims to address them.
Here is where things stand for each platform:
🖥️ Windows Players
- Intel CPU Fatal Errors: We found a permanent fix for the most common "fatal error" affecting newer Intel CPUs utilizing AI boosting features. This is resolved in today's hotfix.
- "Hang Detected" Crashes: We’ve received reports from players that these unexpected crashes have disappeared with the new engine version, which is fantastic news!
- Save File Corruption: The engine upgrade appears to have resolved the rare issue where save files could break during an unexpected game shutdown. We are crossing our fingers that players won't need to rely on save game backups moving forward.
🍏 Mac Players (Apple Silicon - M1/M2/M3)
- We have included a hotfix to address the performance drop introduced in our last update, and should fine with today’s hotfix. Note that Apple Silicon users have not experienced the any "fatal error" crashes.
💻 Mac Players (Intel Processors - 2021 and older)
This is the hardest part of today's update. We have spent the last week trying multiple ways to fix or work around the "fatal errors" plaguing Intel Mac configurations, but we have run into a hard technical wall.
The latest version of our engine changed a significant portion of the rendering backend, and it simply no longer aligns with the architecture of older Intel-based Macs.
Because of this, we unfortunately have to pause future updates for Intel MacOS users.
This was not a decision made lightly. As a small team, we have to balance our limited resources to keep moving the game forward for the vast majority of players. We will keep investigating for a solution in the future, however, we want to ensure you can still play the game you bought:
How to keep playing: Intel Mac users can opt into a special Steam beta branch named ‘macos’. This will allow you to continue playing version 2.3.0 smoothly (including the Garden DLC). Unfortunately this means the Lofi Girl Collaboration and future updates will not be available.
We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate through these technical challenges.
Thank you for being such a supportive community,
The Spirit City Team

Other fixed issues included in this hotfix:
- Fixed an issue with Pocky's discovery animation clipping with the desk accessory
- Fixed a handful of texts that weren't being localized
- Added physics to Lofi Girl ponytail hairstyle
- Fixed icon mismatch with the new Lofi Girl decor item for the desk wall
- Added a setting in the timer tools to automatically dismiss reminders
- Reminders pop-up should now support controller inputs properly.
- Fixed clipping issues on feet when equipping the new Lofi Girl socks
- Fixed clipping issues on feet when equipping boot items
Following our Garden DLC earlier this week, a couple of players have reported to us some bugs that slipped under the radar. Thanks for your help!
Here's a list of the changes in this hotfix:
- Fixed an issue where the "Disable controller" option in the settings menu was still registering some inputs. We now manage things differently in the back-end, resulting in controller inputs always being ignored when the game is "out of focus". With that being said, we removed the "Disable controller" option in the settings since it should be no longer needed.
- Fixed an issue where some HUD buttons were kept highlighted even when not active.
- Fixed an issue where the + and - buttons in the habits section we're not responsive
- Fixed an issue where clicking "Go to Spiritdex" after discovering a Spirit wasn't highlighting the right Spiritdex tab.
- Fixed an issue with locked Spirit Variants not showing properly in the Garden Spiritdex
- Adjusted some text-size or text scaling.
- Adjusted the Train DLC to have the "First-time" activity selector that you can click on in the world.
- Adjusted the Mouse left-click icon to be clearer.
- Fixed a lasting black shadow on the left-side of the screen in the UI.
- Fixed an issue where some of the songs in the Lofi Girl catalog (Sad lofi, Halloween playlists) were not found. (Note: If those songs were previously favorited, they might show up as "lorem ipsum" in the "custom" playlist section. This is a known issue and we'll be submitting a fix as soon as we find the root cause. In the meantime, you can use our troubleshooting guide to delete the SCLS_MusicPlayer.sav to fix this.)
- Fixed some color customization issues where some items were missing a color slot in the Garden DLC (rug, small plant head accessory, hanging lanterns)
- Fixed some clipping issue with the new Garden DLC tops
- Fixed some minor localization issues
- Fixed an issue in the Train DLC where a plant accessory outside couldn't be swapped properly.
- Fixed an issue where some bushes were taking color customization in a wrong way in the central garden section 1 and 2.
- Fixed an issue where some floors in the Garden DLC caused the character's feet to clip with it.
- Fixed an issue with Simmerstew not "watering" properly in the Garden DLC.
- Adjusted the scale of Shrubpuppy to be a tiny bit smaller so that it doesn't clip with items at other locations

With the Spring update (1.9.0), we introduced a major change to the session timer with many new features. While many folks appreciated the improvements, it didn't quite resonate with everyone. It's important to us that Spirit City: Lofi Sessions remains as accessible as possible, so we've been carefully tracking your feedback and added some of the most requested features for the session timer.
Here are the full patch notes:
- Added an alternative circle view for the session timer, in the timer options menu
- Added an option to hide the countdown numbers in the timer options menu
- Adjusted the minute limit amount for the Session timer from 60 to 180
- Fixed an issue where the Session timer would sometimes add 15 seconds to a session segment
- Fixed an issue where the timer would sometimes badly convert remaining minutes when it is running
- Fixed an issue where the new Session timer can sometimes appear to be less wide than its default width, causing the interface to not fit inside of it
- Fixed an issue where the timer could not have :00 as seconds
- Adjusted the session timer so that long break can be set to 0 minutes, removing it from the session
- Added a setting to hide the clock UI altogether in the game settings menu
- Fixed texture artifacts in color customizable gaming chair
- Fixed an issue where the new Spiritdex hints weren't being shown in the "reached new spiritographer rank" pop-up
- Fixed an issue with some eyes disappearing on AMD Graphics cards and Steam Deck
- Fixed an issue with a certain Kitchen beam accent disappearing when selected
Additionally, we hope you appreciate the MacOS version thus far! Here's a list of known issues for MacOS:
- The Steam overlay appearing as glitchy on Apple Silicon chips, appears for achivements pop-ups as well. This is unfortunately not in our control and is on Steam's side to fix.
- A small number of players can have launch issues where the game says it's "Missing game files". For some, reinstalling the game should fix this issue, but it seems like there's more to do on our side to prevent this from happening. We are looking into it.
- The game's unfocused FPS settings are not being applied on Mac, resulting in a higher constant FPS usage. In the meantime, if you feel like the game is a lot to handle for your hardware, we recommend setting a lower FPS setting or lowering the screen resolution scale for now.
Thank you for your support, and have a great productive week!

Additionally, we also want to let you know that we are very grateful for everyone who purchased the Cozy Kitchen DLC. The feedback has been amazing and gives us confidence in delivering more free and paid updates in the future to support Spirit City in the long run. 💖
