Official update history
There have been several updates since the last one in the demo while we've been working hard to get the game ready for release. This is a summary of the most important changes since v0.2.0:
Routes no longer have a "difficulty rating" (stars) associated with them. Difficulty is now exclusively tied to the difficulty settings that can be customised in the lobby.
The time limit for Normal mode has been increased to 1 hour. (Hard mode has been increased to 30 minutes.)
Various items have been updated to make them feel more dynamic and powerful in unique ways, especially items that previously gave a flat stat boost for a set amount of time.
Summit Stamps, an in-game currency, can now be earned by completing routes. The amount earned is based on difficulty level. These can be spent in the lobby to unlock various player and item skins. (Note that Summit Stamps earned in the demo will not carry over to the full release.)
Gamepad support has been improved, including showing button icons for various text hints.
The UI indicating the player's active item buffs has been reworked.
The in-game time limit countdown now shows the real-world time remaining, rather than the in-game time of day.
Localisations have been updated, including the addition of Thai.
Various audio updates for the environment and UI.
Various bug fixes related to host migration and returning to the lobby after a playthrough.
Difficulty settings have been added to the tablet. Players can now choose from Cozy, Normal, or Hard mode, or choose Custom to fully customise the game's settings.
More player icons reflecting the player's current state have been added to the HUD (bottom-left corner).
Fixed a bug where players would be positioned incorrectly after standing up from a seat.
Balancing now gets slightly harder the higher up you are.
More on-screen warnings are now shown as sunset approaches.
Fixed a bug where the player's axe-climbing would occasionally get interrupted when climbing across small ledges.
Fixed players' sitting position and animation.
Ambient lighting during the later in-game hours is now slightly brighter.
Energy consumed when attaching to a surface with the Axes while in midair has been slightly increased.
Players will no longer receive a Game Over if all players have reached the summit. Also, the in-game time will not go past the end-of-day time once all players have reached the summit.
Mindful Moment benches will now switch to a third-person camera while in use. Players can use the mouse wheel to zoom in/out while in this view.
The achievement for bringing Ernie to the summit will now be unlocked for all players when any player in the server takes Ernie to the summit, instead of only for the player carrying Ernie.
Fixed a bug where players would sometimes be able to see sections of routes other than the route selected at the tablet.
Fixed a bug where certain keyboard inputs were not properly disabled while using the chat text input.
The Camera now correctly re-equips after closing the Notebook, if it was previously equipped.
Fixed a bugged invisible wall in the lobby, beyond the balloon.
Hello again, you old rascals!

Until the next climb, stay safe and keep on course for the summit!
I began working on RISE in 2021…
By 2023 I was burned out and unsure if a first-person co-op climbing game would appeal to anyone. After the success of PEAK in 2025, I felt reassured that it was worth finishing. I’m proud to share this mix of my favourite things - co-op games, climbing, and megastructures.

Today we’re kicking off the very first playtest for RISE!
This playtest is for the demo that we’ll be submitting to Steam Next Fest, so it’s still super early and only has a slice of what the game will eventually include.
Right now, here’s what you can do:
Load into a lobby with your friends
Travel to the first map, Eldercrag
Climb about halfway up the mountain (not the summit yet)
Use climbing axes, the camera, binoculars, and the walkie-talkie
Try out balancing, long jumps, and checkpoints
Mess around with a couple of other items (though some are only half-working)
[img src="{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/45746806/ebc831d0e41f4b7bcb7530ac20d558ae31482989.jpg"]
And here’s what’s not in the demo yet (just so you know what to expect):
You can’t reach the top of the mountain
No other maps or alternate climbing routes yet
No climbing rope or player-to-player interactions
Most items don’t work yet (or are half implemented)
Lots of animations missing/incomplete
Some audio and music missing or placeholder
No tutorials, no character customization, no player list/vote kick
Physics are janky in places
Parkour has some bugs
First-person item positions need polish
No Steam integration complete yet
No keybind remapping
No controller support
No translations

Basically, this build is very limited.
There are plenty of rough edges - but that’s exactly why we’re playtesting. It’ll help me iron out bugs and see what’s fun (and what isn’t). You can tell me about any bugs you find and your experience with the game in general in our Discord - https://discord.gg/kgdtDNRS29 .
Thanks so much if you jump in and give it a go. Your feedback will be a huge help in shaping the game.
– Joe
