About the Game
The Art of Reflection is a first-person puzzle game that explores mirrors as if you could pass right through them. What happens when you cross through a mirror and walk around in mirror-land? What if objects, or even gravity aren't the same on the other side? Unfold complex reflected paths as you learn to navigate this world with mastery.
Your primary tool is a snap zoom that lets you pass through mirrors, cover long distances in an instant, redirect effortlessly midair in slow-motion, and more. Solve puzzles inside a room, then clamber your way upside-down across the back side of the same structure. A labyrinthine architecture is waiting for you to uncover its hidden corners.

Steam Patch Notes
Official update history
- Fixed several exploits in the finale sequence
- Improved clarity and target positioning in the last finale puzzle
- Force the correct button glyphs to be used on Steam Deck, even if input is received from the touchscreen or the gyro
- Fixed flickering on a platform in the blue acrobatics area
- Fixed bug where in-motion mirror gun mirrors continued moving even while the game was paused
- Mirrors fired by the mirror gun can now be destroyed by pressing the C key (LB/L1 on controller). Saved games from before this update will be shown the mirror gun tutorial key prompts again in order to teach that you can now destroy fired mirrors.
Added a controls option for toggling mouse acceleration on/off
Added a controls option for toggling mouse smoothing on/off
When showing hubs and remaining portals, the music boxes now glow that hub's colour
Blue-green objects, mirror sheen, and a specific couple portals are now dimmed properly showing hubs and remaining portals
Fixed exploit in a red area puzzle sequence where you could jump on the key stand to solve a puzzle trivially
Made an early secret puzzle less annoying to finish if you enter in an unexpected way
The game should no longer trap the mouse in the center of the screen if you alt-tab or change desktops during startup
Show the "Join Discord" menu item in the full game as well
Fixed two checkpoints in the yellow area that would respawn the player incorrectly
- Added particle vortex effect to draw attention to remaining optional cylinders
- Added graphics option to disable the paint-in effect (disabling leaves the world fully painted-in)
- Added minor hue, and saturation, and lightness variation to wall, floor, and ceiling textures.
- Added support for resolution scaling.
- Added 0.2s delay before gravity kicks in after a zoom.
- Music box cylinder and hole shapes now match. This is to more clearly associate cylinders with the correct hub they should be brought to.
- Added metal wall panels to several areas to try and visually differentiate the two sides of puzzle rooms that are split in half by a glass wall
- For the first two tutorial zooms, RMB/LT must be pressed and released to toggle zoom mode. This fixes issues where players would think that RMB/LT needs to be held to remain in zoom mode, and would never question this assumption once they see that it works, leading them to play the whole game with unnecessarily awkward controls.
- Adjusted lighting and walkable area in acrobatics holdable mirror puzzle
- The demo end puzzle has been revised to (hopefully) better hint at the right course of action, but still without spoiling the discovery.
- Tuned overall game exposure slightly higher (brighter)
- Added an escape hatch to the U puzzle (secret cylinder)
- Backwards zooming into a kill plane now doesn't (immediately) kill you unless it's the bottom plane.
- Fixed sporadic autosave crash (thanks to everyone who shared screenshots and reported this!)
- Fixed crash if you load a save while the game happens to be actively autosaving
- Fixed bug where music cylinders don't light up while playing back music if the music volume is at zero.
- Fixed exploit where the player could "fly" by repeatedly making tiny zooms to reset their fall speed, then moving in mid-air.
- Fixed bug where resetting the game in the middle of the tutorial area caused key prompts to display incorrectly.
- Fixed one of the hub 2 music tracks playing regardless of whether the cylinder is mirrored
- Fixed bug where you could jump higher in no-fall mode if you started the jump while in zoom mode.
- Improved layout and lighting of the Acrobatics area movable mirror puzzle to better draw attention to certain locations
- Made key pedestals more visible in a couple areas
- Orange entry area fizzler no longer resets gravity
- Made door-key area upper ledge target more visible (and harder to walk too far in and miss)
- Door-key partial zoom puzzle now uses barriers instead of gaps. This keeps the fundamental puzzle the same while making the execution easier (particular given that it shows up so early, players are sometimes not comfortable with precise zoom interrupts yet)
- Fixed target collision bounds so the player no longer sticks to them when walking into them
- Fixed ceiling mirror area puzzle #3 exploit where you could hop from the top of the target over the barrier
- Tuned default zoom-in sensitivity higher
- Widened the side of the platform by the door of the suspended upside-down key grab puzzle so you don't stand on top of the railing in a way that disallows jumping
- Fixed bug where pressing backspace at the right time during a fresh startup caused you to spawn at the orange hub where the demo ends (!!!)
- Fixed flickering on Proton and on Intel Iris Xe chipsets
- Fixed bug where held objects could be dropped onto targets
- Show "pickup/drop mirror" key prompt while holding a mirror during the tutorial
- Fixed bug where you could buffer a jump during a zoom, leading to a jump occurring as soon as the zoom ends, even if you're in midair
- Added support for DirectX feature level 11.0. Until now, the game required feature level 11.1. This should allow some older video cards to run the game (eg. GeForce 600/700 era cards).
- Added a subtle distance fog
- Tuned ambient occlusion to be stronger, especially in the distance
- Added point of no return to the start of the first puzzle in the green upside-down combinations area (the tall narrow column) to reduce disorientation.
- Swapped green upside-down combinations puzzle #2 (open air key grab) and #3 (closed room key grab) to encourage more interesting solutions to puzzle #2.
- Moved green upside-down basics puzzle #3 (two-mirror closed room) to another location and made it a bonus puzzle. In its place is a simpler puzzle teaching something small but helpful for entering the orange area.
- Added a music box to the orange hub area (but it can't be interacted with in the demo, look forward to completing it in the full game!)
- Tweaked floor lights to make them look a little less like they're hovering off the ground
- Fixed wrong key prompt being shown in some cases
- Fixed bug where the player could walljump if they walked off a platform while hugging a wall
- Fixed exploit in green upside-down combinations puzzle #2 (the open air key grab and door open) where you could enter the door upside-down.
- Fixed bug where selecting a save slot sometimes resulted in the wrong save slot getting loaded
- Fixed bug where ambient occlusion was being drawn on top of glass
- Adjusted the sensitivity curve when zooming in. The zoom-in speed is now slower than before when not zoomed in very far, which should make short zooms more ergonomic.
- Adjusted grey wall material to improve look
- Minor improvements to line-of-sight visibility between areas
- Added an entryway to the Hub 2 transition area so that something is visible in the portal when looking up at it from Hub 1
- Music cylinder colours now match the areas they're found in
- 'Return to hub' functionality is now mapped to a key/button. To teach this, a tutorial prompt is now shown upon entering a new area.
- Fixed bug where you could change the non-zoomed FOV temporarily by zooming in via the scroll wheel during a zoom reset.
- Fixed bug where if you load a save game during the cylinder stone removal animation, then next stone removal after that won't function correctly
- Fixed bug where you could drop a tall mirror on the other side of a fizzler
- Fixed bug where you could enter zoom mode while holding a mirror if you did so during a zoom reset. This would allow you to teleport to a sphere while carrying the mirror with you.
- Fixed bug where the "Show area entrances" prompt wouldn't disappear if you enter a non-completed area quickly after the prompt appears
- Fixed bug where pressing Shift+Tab to open the Steam overlay would also briefly show area entrances
