About the Game
EVERY RECORDING EVER MADE ABOUT THE BACKROOMS. ALL OF IT ON THE FLOOR.
You are the archivist. The racks are labelled. The job is to put them back.
📼 SORT THE TAPES
The O.P.A had collected decades of research and recordings; levels, entities, expeditions, the found footage of people who went in and never came back.
An anomaly pulled it ALL into the Backrooms, as the new archivist, it's your job to bring it back.
🗄️ ORGANIZE THE ARCHIVE
Read the spine; section, subject, volume - Find its rack - Place them in order - Repeat.
Thirty-two sections, hundreds of subjects, thousands of volumes - 18,000 to be precise
🤐 DON'T ASK QUESTIONS
All uniquely labelled to surface deep backrooms lore - and cited directly from the Share-Alike wikis around the world (international included). Nothing here is invented, the archive shelves contradictory accounts side by side, marks where each one came from, and leaves the sorting to you!

Official update history
- 5 floating tapes in default level
- Overlapping tapes in hand
- Hide tape when observing terminal
Edits
- Tape sleeve art pass
I worked all day on changes, and pulled some old querks out the bag to replace bad ones, and tweaked their variables to make it a little more balanced and hopefully more fun.
The big one was, bots keep dying, most of this list is about that.,
Added:
- Added arrow on radar where the door is
- New new positive/negative bot querks / tweaks below
- Add hiring reroll count (Hiring: 2 rerolls per batch, and letting an employee go opens applications immediately.)
- Terminating an employee end the firing wait timer
Fixes:
- Fix employees not picking up their full hand size
- Fix employees immediately dying from monsters (monster cannot kill on proximity during screech spotted event)
- Remove 'Empty' from filled shift slots
- Fix employees dying alot: now employees run from monster footsteps, and they stand in fear for less time
- Removed Milkman bad design for a querk (one tape at a time)
- Fix a screaming monster (during employee spotted) can't kill the bot while screaming (stops them walking around a corner and immediately overlap killing an employee)
- Fix monsters lurking the doorway (while a player is in the office, wandering monsters drift toward the far)
- Employees no longer stand still while fleeing to 'look back in fear' which was getting them killed too much

More info on Quirks (the bonus and negative an employee gets during hiring phase)
- Reworked:
- Cool Head: Stress doesn't affect their skills.
- Second Wind: gets up fit 10 s after a knock-down.
- Lucky: ×1.5 dodge chance.
- Milkman: one tape at a time only on break.
- Rubbernecker > Attention Deficit: 20% chance per job to forget its series.
- Decoy > Pack Mule: +8 tapes.
- Wording only: Medic, Superstitious, Loner.
- New:
- Good: Tape Sniffer, Shelf Sense, Quick Study.
- Bad: Panicker, Chatterbox, Tunnel Vision, Slow Starter, Fragile.
- Pack Mule (+8 tapes). to replace Decoy positive querk.
- Tape Sniffer: immediately picks target tape from pile when reaching it.
- Shelf Sense: no hold when any slot on that shelf already holds the series.
- Quick Study: ranks cost 1 less, never below 1.
- Panicker: runs for the office from anywhere, never a hide.
- Chatterbox: spends 2x longer at each break conversation spot.
- Tunnel Vision: half sight range vs monsters.
- Slow Starter: walks from going on shift until its first tape is shelved. A monster still makes it run.
- Fragile: half the bed recovery speed.
- Light Feet and Loud Steps: marked Won't Do. Footstep noise is reported only for player-controlled pawns, so monsters can't hear explorers at all.
- Changed 'precision' to 'bravery'. Previously a employees would have 'precision' stat during hire, to pick tapes of a certain type, now all employees always pick 1 tape series first, and bravery replaces that stat, which at early level makes them run from monster footsteps sooner at 15m range, at high level they will stay until monsters footsteps are within 3m.
