Just over a month ago we released Oaken Tower into Early Access and I’m blown away to share that over 100,000 of you have picked up the game! Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to hit such a big number so fast! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, this game grows because of you. Today I’m rolling out the planned Q2 update, which adds two brand new packs:

A note on Endless Mode:
The Cursed Shield nerf is intended for endless mode, but please keep in mind that the game is balanced for normal, 10-trophy runs. Endless mode was added because people really wanted a way to keep playing after they won 10 trophies, so I added it. But due to the exponential-scaling nature of the game, endless mode will contain broken builds, and it is impossible to balance the game around it.
None the less I hope you welcome the nerf to 3-Star cursed shield, and in fact, I also made another change that is good for endless mode:
The game now waits 5 frames before starting to check the match results. This allows all Start-of-Combat abilities to trigger before checking anything. This was actually why A Thousand Cuts was so prominent in late endless rounds. It started with A, and was therefore the first item to trigger in the internal trigger-order, making it uncounterable.
In future updates, I will keep working on smoothing out endless mode as much as possible!
Other
Added a tooltip for "Start of Day" effects that tells you that these effects work from inventory.
Fixes
Fixed a bug where spawning goblets with 3-Star Hook could cause the game to lag a lot and bug.
Fixed a bug where the game would lag a lot when having multiple item-spawning items proccing at the same time.
Pandora’s Slot no longer keeps spawning while in-combat if you quickly pass the shop phase.
The Merge perk has been fixed. It will now proc and merge into 3 star when using Alderos “Ascension” option, when using Mirror potion and when you enter day 7 with multiple 2-Star items.
Fixed a bug where the game would lag a lot if you had many 3-star candles and then right clicked many potions in the same frame.
Fixed a bug where some items from an item-discovery would not show when pouch was open.
Fixed text-issue when hovering "Power" perk.

What is Duos?
A brand-new real-time co-operative 2-player mode in Oaken Tower
How will Duos work?
You and a friend each build your own tower, then team up to take on other duos.
During the buy phase, you’ll be able to pass items from your inventory straight to your teammate for a fee
During the buy phase you’ll also be able to view your friends tower to understand the kind of items they need
It’s easier to build synergies together! But remember… your opponents have the same advantage…
Will there be different items or abilities in Duos?
I’m also playing around with the idea of unique “Duos-only” items that take proper advantage of the mode.
Will Duos wins/losses count towards your rank?
Duos will have its own leaderboard and you’ll gain a separate rank when playing duos.
Will there be an opportunity to playtest duos before it fully releases?
If you’d like to get your hands on it early, I’ll be slowly rolling out closed playtest access via the discord community.

🔴 3-Star Regular Bow: +15 dmg --> 12 dmg. //dev comment: the merge bow combo was still somewhat oppressive in Grandmaster. Slowly and steadily we will make it on par with everything else :P
🟢 Turnbound Ring: 35 gold --> 30 gold.
🔴 2-Star Crook: +3 Vials --> +2 Vials.
🔴 Mythic Rod: 3.2s CD --> 3.3s CD.

New Feature: Combat Log!
I added a highly requested feature to the game! A combat log.
This allows you to see how much damage/poison/burn etc. each item did during a fight.
The combat log allows you to see the following for each item (if applicable)
Amount of triggers
Amount of crits
Total damage
Total bleed damage
Total poison applied
Total burn applied
Total shock applied
Total gold gained
Total item/potion generations
Total shielding
Total healing
Total max hp gained
Total debuffs cleansed
It also lets you see:
Total damage done by each debuff.
Combat duration.

Addressing: Fight durations
Back in the day I implemented the Priest, Cleric and Bishop encounters who give Max HP - primarily to extend the duration of fights as builds get stronger. This worked very well, but after the bishop encounter day 11, builds start to scale exponentially, which makes the fights too short again.
Introducing: Holy water.
On day 14 you can take a sip of the fountain to gain +15.000 Max HP.
You didn't think it was regular water flowing in that city fountain, did you? 🤨

In addition to Holy Water, both Bishop health options have been increased by +1500 Max HP.
Keep in mind that for the first 30 minutes or so, you might still face old builds from the pool without the 15.000 HP boost. If this happens to you, enjoy a little bit of free elo.
New Potions added
Small Luck Potion

Gain +1% Luck.
This is essentially used to slightly nerf the "Carmen's Shop" lucky rolls, which will now contain some of these and only 1x Liquid Luck (+3% luck).

This is a new Major Potion. It costs 85 Gold and says:
Gain +5 Income, a Goblet, and a random 1-Star Legendary.

🔴 Wildfire: 5 Burn → 4 Burn | 25 Gold → 20 Gold. //Dev comment: Making Wildfire worse but cheaper essentially nerfs the burn perk, which was high tier.

🔄 Outdoor Knife rework: 25 Gold → 15 Gold. | CD: 2.3s. | 10 damage | New Ability: "Start of Combat: Gain +3 bonus damage per Storm item.". //Dev Comment: This change primarily serves to make the Storm Tag useful for something.
Perk balance:
🔴 Flash Sale perk: The sale now applies to every item, but only in the FIRST shop on day 3,8,11. Meaning if you reroll, the sale will be gone.
🟢 Gathering Perk: You now start with 3 free rerolls instead of 1.
🔄 Essential Oils perk Rework: Now says: “On day 5: Discover one of two Essences.”
Quality of Life
You no longer have to use SHIFT + Scroll to see next item star-levels. You can simply just scroll while hovering an item. This allows you to play mouse-only.
Other
🔄Lyra Deep Freeze: When you deep freeze items, they now persist through rerolls. Only 1 extra copy gets added to the pool instead of 2.
New option: Randomize enemy names. This is a short term fix because Steam’s name filtering is pretty sad. So if this is something that bothers you, or you are a content creator who doesn’t want to expose your audience to possible profane names, use this option.
Added unique names to 3-Star Executioner and 3-Star Dragon Orb in honor of content creators Dex and Super Auto Gaming.
Reverted the names of Cursed Orb → Dark Orb and Cursed Artifact → The Pyramid. The idea was to make all cursed items have “Cursed” in their names, but this doesn’t really matter as they already have the Cursed rarity. And the original names are still being used by the community, hence the revert.
Made matchmaking improvements. These improvements focus on reducing the odds of fighting your own ghost, and the same player many times during a session. (Was mostly an issue in GM where the pool is small).
Slot buffs that scale with days now work retroactively, which means if you obtain it on day 9, it will start with a higher stat compared to if obtained day 1.
Bleed, Crit and Shock slot buffs no longer scale with days but give a static buff.
Fixes
Fixed some wrong descriptions on perk unlocks.
Fixed bug: Enemy Stormpike 2/3 Star would buff the player’s shock damage instead of the enemy’s.
Fixed Bug: Blazing Bull 2-Star did not apply 5 extra burn.
Bugfix: 2/3 Star Silver Lance dealt a bit less damage than its ability stated.
Reworded 2-Star Mace Study to be more clear.
Changed the word “Indefinitely” to “Infinitely”.
Fixed the text of Essential Oils perk unlock!
Bugfix: Tower debris when hitting for a lot of damage now falls down with the same speed regardless of FPS.
Bugfix: Leaving granny’s shop without stealing no longer lets you steal the next potion you see in the normal shop…
Bugfix: You no longer keep the 5% rating bonus if you had Random Perks equipped, and then selected a perk loadout afterwards.
Dream Catcher now also affects current cooldown so it doesn't cause bugs with the cooldown-bar.
Fixed some localization issues.

Update v0.3.7
It’s been one week since the Early Access release and it's been awesome following the game grow in popularity. I'm incredibly proud and grateful that over 23,000 Oaklings have picked up the game already and spent countless hours feeding back on the game. The intention of the Early Access is to help expand and refine Oaken Tower with you all, so thank you for all of your support!
As a solo developer it's been awesome seeing my game get covered by some of the major creators for the autobattler genre including Celerity, Kripp, Northernlion, HandOfBlood, Sodapoppin and many more!
Over the weekend you'll see that I pushed out a smaller update which aimed to address a handful of early learnings and feedback from you all, and going forward you can expect to see more updates.
Today in celebration of the week one success, I'm updating the game with some brand new content!

New Encounter: Shady Dealer
This encounter always appears on day 18 (only in Endless mode after a Ranked run!). He will offer you to sacrifice 15 rating points, and if you make it to day 23 you will gain +30.
This adds a competitive reason to play endless mode.
Please note that endless mode balancing is still being tweaked a lot and matchmaking is being improved actively. I already made great improvements to the endless matchmaking in this update :)
2 New Items:
When the Dragon pack releases, Dragon Orb and Dragon's Call will rotate out of the neutral pool.
To fill in these 2 slots, a new Epic and Legendary item has been added as part of today's update:

Turnbound Ring (Cross-promotion item!)
My developer friends over at 1TK release their auto battler (Turnbound) into 1.0 tomorrow and to celebrate together we're doing a cross-promotion item between Oaken Tower and Turnbound. 1TK has added in 'The Oaken Tower' as a slottable item into Turnbound, and I've added the 'Turnbound Ring' to Oaken Tower!
The Turnbound Ring gains damage every day, and introduces the unique "All" tag, which means it counts as any type!

Pandora's Box
If you manage to trigger its 20s CD, you will be rewarded with Pandora's Slot. This slot copies an item each day, and if your Pandora's Box is levelled up, you can even upgrade the Pandora's Slot to generate multiple items!

🟢 Moon Knife: This change is just a streamline for Moon Knife to give XP that are multiples of 4 (otherwise you would gain uneven XP which resulted in bugs….) → +16/+24/+32
🔄 Lyra’s Deep Freeze now adds copies of the deep-frozen item to its corresponding rarity pool (instead of a random one). I.e. if you Deep-Freeze a Rare item, 2 extra copies will be added to the Rare item pool. Note: You can Deep-freeze Special items like the Jade or Home-Brew, in which case 2 copies will get added to the Epic pool.
→ Lyra’s Deep Freeze has been streamlined: You now gain a seperate Deep Freeze button in shop and it clearly displays what it does when hovered.
Other:
Added a button to the Oaken Tower Wiki in the main menu.
Fixed a bug where Refined Bow and How to Grow could appear when Elven pack was disabled.
Fix: You can no longer press the freeze button behind the pouch.
More matchmaking improvements!
Fixed a bug where Executioner wouldn't execute if the enemy healed in the same frame.

Deep Freeze (Lyra)
The Lyra (day 9) option "Absolute Zero" was gigabusted and has been reworked to something pretty unique: Deep Freeze.
This allows you to freeze individual items by dragging. You can also use right-click to Deep Freeze, which makes the frozen item slightly more likely to appear.

This item has been reworked to something much more flavorful and thematic. Its stats has been tweaked, and the ability is now:
"When the enemy reaches 15% HP or less, execute them."

Quality of Life:
Lucky Rolls now say “Lucky Roll!” to make it more obvious for new players what is going on.

The game now remembers your 2x Speedup option between sessions.
Crownforge Brew now has a faint red back-glow to prevent players from missing it.
Balance Changes:
🔴 Protector 2/3 Star Nerf: Now removes 60% / 80% of debuffs on trigger. (thank you soda)
🔴 Regular Bow nerf: 30% Crit → 0% crit. | 7 Dmg → 8 Dmg. | 3-Star: 25 dmg --> 20 dmg start of combat.
🔴 Dragon’s Call: 5.5s CD → 4.8s CD. | Trigger your other bows 3 times → 2 times.
🔴 Dusk Shield 2/3 Star: 33% Max HP as shield → 20%
🟢 Flare: 4s CD → 3.9s CD.
🔴 Stormguard: 2.3s CD → 2.5s CD.
🔴 Moon Knife: Gives less XP at 1/2 star. 2.2s CD → 2.4s CD.
🟢 Ink Potion can now also be used to remove a slot buff.
🟢 Novice Blade 2/3 Star: → 40%/80% shield destruction.
🟢 Cauldron: 4.5s CD --> 4.3s CD.
Fixes:
Fixed a crash with potion-spawning items in The Oak fight.
Fixed a bug where 3-Star Arcane Mace and Arcane Cleaver would not gain shock.
Fixed a bug with Lesser Gold Potion showing the wrong number of gold gained.
Fixed a bug where Amethyst Bow could not show infobox while triggering.
Shop Freeze Effect is no longer overlayed on the pouch.
Bugfix: You can no longer accidentally buy potions through the pouch.
Bugfix: 3-Star How to Grow no longer buffs enemy elven items.
Fixed some perk unlock bugs.
Mythic Rod damage gain now matches the ability text. (+5/10/15/30)
Fix: You can no longer right click the reroll button while pouch is open.
Fix: Some encounter tooltips were flipped.
Small fixes on Candy descriptions.
Visual Fix: Carmen’s Walk on Water can no longer make an item visually show a CD below 1s.
Fixed some text issues in-game.
Fixed a bug where Potion of Appearence would not properly work in other languages than english.
Other
Rarity glow on shop prices now defaults to “On” when you first launch the game. Turn this setting on if you want to easier see rarities of items in the shop!
Significant matchmaking improvements. (Especially for endless)
Some perks are now a little easier and less tedious to unlock.
Expect hotfixes in the coming days alongside the new content on may 5th.
