About the Game
Power Network Tycoon is a physics based power grid simulation game where you build and maintain a high-voltage power network. Build power infrastructure, monitor resources, research upgrades, adapt to environmental challenges, keep up with energy demands and protect your island community!
Start small by placing power generators, substations, and power lines. With greater demand brings resource constraints, safety risks, and exposure to natures challenges. Invest wisely in research, upgrades, and safety measures to ensure a stable and efficient power supply.
Developed by a Power Engineer
The game is a modern take on an often oversimplified genre, now with advanced power grid management and industry-inspired simulation mechanics. It uses advanced physics-based calculations found in industrial electrical design software and challenges you to make decisions that reflect industry best practices, built from the ground up to be easy to learn, but hard to master.
Protect Your Citizens
You'll be responsible for preventing electrical accidents and protecting your citizens. Assess ground potential rise under fault conditions, measure electromagnetic field strengths, and upgrade equipment to minimize the risk of electrical overloading. Failure to prioritize safety could lead to unhappy customers, outages, and worse!
Become An Expert
As the island community grows, your expertise running the Power Grid will be put to the test. You'll have the opportunity to upgrade and expand your network by building new power generators, power lines, substations and supporting infrastructure.
Overcome Challenges
Mother Nature can throw unexpected challenges your way, but as a resilient Engineer, you're always prepared. Storms, heatwaves and other extreme weather events will put your skills to the test. Upgrade your infrastructure, strengthen power lines and monitor the weather to mitigate the impact of these natural disasters. Balancing resilience and costs is crucial as you work to keep the lights on.
Every decision shapes how your network performs under pressure, how your power infrastructure holds up over time, and how your community grows. Plan carefully, think like an engineer, and see if your grid can stand the test.

Official update history
This update features the following changes:
- Added two new graphs to the power study tool. A graph of the power generation vs power demand and a graph of the percentage of power coming from renewables.
- Community Satisfaction now has colors to match some of the background code works, encouraging the behaviour to progress the game. <50% is red which greatly affects city growth rate. >= 99% is green which greatly increases city growth rate.
- Modifications to how window lighting works to improve performance. Added an intermediate lights changing (eg start or ending night) visual of building-at-a-time instead of building window-at-a-time switching, meaning less steps to transition lights. Ultra graphics setting is the only level now showing window-at-a-time switching.
- Default FPS is now 60 rather than Unlimited to reduce producing more frames than needed (eg excess computer heat, particularly in menus).
This update features the following changes:
- Added OpenDyslexic font as an option
- Added brief 5 second videos to a few of the starting in-game tutorials as a visual for the tutorial text
- Added blinking red arrow pointing to Oil Market when oil supply is low or empty
- Fixes to some text size to better fit some fonts/localization
- Performance optimizations

- Fixed bug that allowed upgrading beyond the max limit for poles, causing an error when loading the save game. Added additional related error logging.
- Fixed bug preventing sound volume being saved correctly.
- Fixed bug for text tips on the Nuclear Reactor not fitting within the UI for some languages.
- Fixed bug where players could sometimes build multiple of the same asset on top of each other if clicking fast enough (it was fun while it lasted).
- Renamed "Gamepad" section of the settings menu to "Controls" to be more general.
- Added a final message at the end of the interactive tutorial on how to start playing the game.
- Fixed bug that could create a much longer loading screen if saved while there are two separate networks.
- Improved error reporting during game loading
- Added info button next to "Load Retention" on the play menu to explain it's meaning.
- Improvements to management of network status updating after running out of oil
- Fixed bug where load connection applications can be shown from previous games
- Added option in settings menu to not store/calculate graph data (better performance)
- Fixed bug where finishing all research options (demo or full game) should change the research menus text to say it's complete.
- Tweak to how faults occur regarding game speed when using the toggle to not View Faults (in the settings menu.
- Fixed bug with sun-setting showing light on trees for a split second after it set as well as matching rotation of stars with sun.
- Literal Easter eggs removed
- Other minor tweaks and bug fixes
- Fixed issue where on a loaded game, its possible to have two assets with the same name. This only causes issues when trying to adjust their earthing/grounding and is fixed if the player tries to rename the asset, as uniqueness is then checked, but is now checked by default.
- Linux users will now be using the Vulkan renderer by default, which will fallback to OpenGL Core if it fails (using the Unity automated graphics API). This order was previously reversed but should have better compatibility with newer cards.
- Game save files, progress and settings are now forced to store in "Power Network Tycoon_Data\SavesDir". This change should only affect some Linux users (who may have had issues with Steam Cloud saving). If your game settings or game saves have disappeared, move them from the old directory to the new one.
- Added toggle to disable "View Fault" when is when a fault occurs on the network and the camera jumps to look at it (also slowing down time briefly). This can get annoying with many faults occurring for some players, so toggle added in settings menu. Default is enabled.
- Tap/click sound changed from 50% volume to 30% for UI mouseover
- Other minor tweaks and bug fixes
- Fixed bug related to satisfaction debuffs for loads not connected during extreme weather events. Debuff now will not be added for special loads (such as oil pumps).
- Fixed price of wind turbines to now charge the correct amount shown
- Gameplay starts off slower, with one load asking to be connected at a time until map has atleast 10 loads. This helps new players learn the basics first. Similarly, maintenance costs won't occur until the first 10 loads arrive, to offset the lost revenue from slower load connection. There is no slow start for Hard mode.
- Cyclones can no longer trigger for earlier in the game unless playing in Hard mode.
- You can no longer rename an asset to the same name as another asset. This prevented you from changing selected asset when modifying EPR/GPR.
- "Power Factor" text will now change to the appropriate localization
- Fixed error where if player played the interactive tutorial first, their research panel during normal gameplay modes will show buttons as non-interactable.
- The button for unpausing from the tutorial window is removed if using gamepad (only allowing the "unpause and close" button).
- Changes to Steam Input reconfiguring. Ongoing work to allow reconfiguring of gamepad/Steamdeck controls within Steam's API (shouldn't affect keyboard/mouse users)
- Improvements to gamepad navigation when interacting with input fields. Bug fix allowing gamepad to progress through interactive tutorial for panning camera view (eg when Q and E are normally pressed for keyboard). Lowest camera height allowed while using gamepad is now slightly higher, as issue occurred when very close to the ground related to how camera pitching occurs (which also caused a bug when UI zoomed in on a location). Minor other gamepad tweaks which improves the game for gamepad and handheld (Steamdeck) users.
- Added fix to extremely rare bug that stopped placement of assets until game was restarted.
- Made power requirement for an end game objective ~10% less.
