About the Game
Gather your party and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power.
Mysterious abilities are awakening inside you, drawn from a mind flayer parasite planted in your brain. Resist, and turn darkness against itself. Or embrace corruption, and become ultimate evil.
From the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2 comes a next-generation RPG, set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons.
Choose from 12 classes and 11 races from the D&D Player's Handbook and create your own identity, or play as an Origin hero with a hand-crafted background. Or tangle with your inner corruption as the Dark Urge, a fully customisable Origin hero with its own unique mechanics and story. Whoever you choose to be, adventure, loot, battle and romance your way across the Forgotten Realms and beyond. Gather your party. Take the adventure online as a party of up to four.
Abducted, infected, lost. You are turning into a monster, but as the corruption inside you grows, so does your power. That power may help you to survive, but there will be a price to pay, and more than any ability, the bonds of trust that you build within your party could be your greatest strength. Caught in a conflict between devils, deities, and sinister otherworldly forces, you will determine the fate of the Forgotten Realms together.
Forged with the new Divinity 4.0 engine, Baldur’s Gate 3 gives you unprecedented freedom to explore, experiment, and interact with a thriving world filled with characters, dangers, and deceit. A grand, cinematic narrative brings you closer to your characters than ever before. From shadow-cursed forests, to the magical caverns of the Underdark, to the sprawling city of Baldur’s Gate itself, your actions define the adventure, but your choices define your legacy. You will be remembered.
The Forgotten Realms are a vast, detailed, and diverse world, and there are secrets to be discovered all around you – verticality is a vital part of exploration. Sneak, dip, shove, climb, and jump as you journey from the depths of the Underdark to the glittering rooftops of Baldur’s Gate. Every choice you make drives your story forward, each decision leaving your mark on the world. Define your legacy, nurture relationships and create enemies, and solve problems your way. No two playthroughs will ever be the same.
- allows you to combine your forces in combat and simultaneously attack enemies, or split your party to each follow your own quests and agendas. Concoct the perfect plan together… or introduce an element of chaos when your friends least expect it. Relationships are complicated. Especially when you’ve got a parasite in your brain.
- 7 unique Origin heroes offer a hand-crafted experience, each with their own unique traits, agenda, and outlook on the world. Their stories intersect with the overarching narrative, and your choices will determine whether those stories end in redemption, salvation, domination, or one of many other outcomes. Play as an Origin and enjoy their stories, or recruit them to fight alongside you.
- based on the D&D 5e ruleset. Team-based initiative, advantage and disadvantage, and roll modifiers join an advanced AI, expanded environmental interactions, and a new fluidity in combat that rewards strategy and foresight. Three difficulty settings allow you to customise the challenge of combat. Enable weighted dice to help sway the battle, or play on Tactician mode for a hardcore experience.
- featuring 31 subraces on top of the 11 races (Human, Githyanki, Half-Orc, Dwarf, Elf, Drow, Tiefling, Halfling, Half Elf, Gnome, Dragonborn), with 46 subclasses branching out of the 12 classes. Over 600 spells and actions offer near-limitless freedom of interactivity in a hand-crafted world where exploration is rewarded, and player agency defines the journey. Our unique Character Creator features unprecedented depth of character, with reactivity that ensures whomever you are, you will leave a unique legacy behind you, all the way up to Level 12. Over 174 hours of cinematics ensure that no matter the choices you make, the cinematic experience follows your journey – every playthrough, a new cinematic journey.
- With the looming threat of war heading to Baldur’s Gate, and a mind flayer invasion on the horizon, friendships – though not necessary – are bound to be forged on your journey. What becomes of them is up to you, as you enter real, vibrant relationships with those you meet along the way. Each companion has their own moral compass and will react to the choices you make throughout your journey. At what cost will you stick to your ideals? Will you allow love to shape your actions? The relationships made on the road to Baldur’s Gate act as moments of respite at camp as much as they add weight to the many decisions you make on your adventure.
- so that when you hit ‘go live’, your stream isn’t interrupted by a bear, swear, or lack of underwear. Baldur’s Gate 3 has 3 different levels of streamer-friendly customisation. You can disable nudity and explicit content separately (or together), and you can enable Twitch integration to interact directly with your audience, just as we do at our Panel From Hell showcases! You’ll be able to stream Baldur’s Gate 3 without any problems, regardless of how you play, thanks to these options.

Official update history
Hey folks,
Our last small update, which aimed to resolve corrupted savegames affecting a number of players, seemed to have also introduced some performance issues that triggered crashes. Thank you for your patience while these were investigated!
A fix is now rolling out for all platforms that addresses these performance issues and some other crashes and blockers that were still affecting players.
FIXES
Fixed a framerate drop and eventual crash when loading a savegame.
Fixed several crashes.
Fixed a bug on Xbox where tooltips in the Inventory and Trade windows wouldn't display correctly.
Fixed a bug on Mac preventing you from progressing past Character Creation after starting a character introduction cinematic on Honour Mode.
Hello folks,
We’re dropping by to serve up a small hotfix today!
Focusing mainly on improving performance, this update should resolve some crashes on consoles and address certain issues on the Steam Deck. We’ve also gone ahead and bumped the default Upscaling Type from FSR 1 to FSR 2.2 on Steam Deck Native, which should result in sharper visuals overall.
We hope you’re all staying warm during sweater weather (or cool during sensible thin cardigan weather in the southern hemisphere).
Check out the hotfix notes below!

Update 02/10/2025: We've rolled out a fix which aims to resolve issues with freezing on PS5 when accessing party management. As this fix involves tweaks to controller input, it will need to be deployed on all platforms and it has now been deployed on PC. Cross-play remains unaffected.
For those of you who have been running into issues with the Performance Overlay, Steam Deck have now released a Beta update that aims to restore this. You can read Steam's update here: [dynamiclink href="https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1675200/view/498333631688738086"]
Friends, family, funny people,
We are back with another hotfix offering up several bug fixes and addressing some rather annoying instances of crashing on Xbox.
What’s more, Hotfix #34 brings a special update to those of you playing on Steam Deck: Baldur’s Gate 3 now features a native Steam Deck build! This means the game can now be run natively on the platform, resulting in a more stable framerate, lower loading times, and smoother gameplay.
This is not just good news for Steam Deck users either, the work the team has put into this build also means that everyone will get to enjoy overall improvements to the way game models are streamed on all platforms, which should reduce framerate spikes in busy areas, such as the Lower City in Act 3.
Find your best Steam Deck settings
When launching the game on Steam Deck after Hotfix #34, you will be on the native Steam Deck graphics settings by default. You can always give these settings a tweak, whether you decide to go native or play with Proton.
Our wonderful Support Team have put together a comprehensive guide on the Steam Deck Native transition with all the information you may need:
https://larian.com/support/faqs/steam-deck-native-version_121
Want the TL;DR version? Read on below!
What’s the difference between the Steam Deck Native and Proton version?
Our Proton version runs on the Steam Deck via the Proton compatibility layer, which requires extra CPU processing power. Running the game natively on the Steam Deck requires less CPU usage and memory consumption overall!
Savegames
Where are my saves located currently (before using the Steam Deck Native version)?
Before the Steam Deck Native version becomes the primary version, your saves will be in the compatdata folder:
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1086940/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/PlayerProfiles/Public
Where are my saves located when I use the Steam Deck Native version?
After the Steam Deck Native version becomes the primary version, your saves will be in the following folder: /home/deck/.local/share/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/PlayerProfiles/Public
Why are my saves in different folders?
When Baldur’s Gate 3 runs on the Proton compatibility layer, the Proton version will store the saves in the compatdata folder, which is a mirrored version of the Windows file storage system. On the Steam Deck Native version, the saves are stored natively on the SteamOS file storage system.
Will my savegames be transferred over to the new version when I use the Steam Deck Native version?
If your Steam Cloud saves are turned on, your most recent saves will be synced to the Steam Deck Native savegame folder automatically.
What if I don’t have Cloud saves turned on, or I want to access my older saves?
Your saves are still stored on the Steam Deck, but they will be stored in the compatdata folder.
You can manually transfer these files via the Desktop:
First, switch to Desktop Mode by clicking on the Steam button and selecting Power. Then click on Switch to Desktop.

Copy the Savegames folder.
Navigate to: /home/deck/.local/share/Larian Studios/Baldur's Gate 3/PlayerProfiles/Public
Paste the copied folder in this location.
Mods on Steam Deck
Will my mods be transferred over automatically?
If you are logged into your Larian Account and have it connected to mod.io, all mods you are subscribed to will be downloaded when the transition to Steam Deck Native occurs.
What if I’m not logged into a Larian Account or connected to mod.io?
You can either manually download the mods from the Mod Manager or transfer them manually from the previous folder.
To do so,switch to Desktop Mode by clicking on the Steam button and selecting Power. Then click on Switch to Desktop.

Troubleshooting
The game looks really blurry/fuzzy to me, is there a way to fix that?
If you’re playing on default settings, the game may be looking a little blurry due to the use of FSR 1 as the default Upscaling Type. You can try to switch it to FSR 2.2 to achieve a better image quality, though at the cost of some performance loss.
To do so, go into the game’s settings menu. Under the Video tab, scroll down until you find a setting called Upscaling Type. You can switch this over to FSR 2.2 for the best balance between performance and image sharpness.

There’s a small console-only hotfix going live today that resolves some stability and performance issues when using mods on console.
Console Platform File Limits
Unlike PC, consoles can only juggle so many files at once. The more mods you have installed, the quicker this file limit is reached. While we recommend only installing the mods you know you’ll definitely continue playing with, to maximise stability, we’re introducing a 100-mod limit for console platforms.
What Does This Mean For Cross-Saves?
Console players won’t be able to load saves that already have 100 mods enabled. If you play on both PC and console using cross-saves and have more than 100 mods enabled on a save, you may be able to disable the number of active mods from your PC, so that you can continue accessing your cross-save on console.
We’ll be shipping another fix soon that will aim to give console players the means to access console saves that are disabled after today’s update. However, it is important to note that mods can cause general instability, particularly on console, and depending on the mods you’ve had enabled on a save, you may run into issues when disabling them from your PC.
If you’ve got more than 100 mods installed on console, they will be automatically uninstalled on your console, and you’ll need to redownload any mods you downloaded, begin a new save, or load an earlier save with fewer than 100 mods to continue playing on console.
While we are working on bringing cross-play to Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll also need to keep this limit in mind when playing with console players! But more on that later.

Another small hotfix for all platforms is coming your way today! Hotfix #28 addresses a few crashes and blockers, integrates a handful of gameplay bug fixes, and resolves some issues with the Mod Manager.
This hotfix also fixes an issue with multiplayer, where some players were getting caught in an enable–disable loop in the Mod Verification Window when trying to disable a mod that the host doesn't have.
MODDING
- On PS5, the 'Continue' button will now work the same as the 'Load Game' screen in that it won't allow you to start a game if there are any mod issues.
- On console, when loading a savegame that has unresolved mod issues, the Mod Verification Window will no longer keep asking you to re-download or uninstall mods when the action has already been taken.
- Resolved an issue with mod dependencies not being loaded in the correct order after enabling/disabling some mods.
Mod Manager
- Fixed the animated downloading bar not appearing in the Mod Verification Window after you click 'Download'.
- Fixed the horizontal scrollbar on the Mod Details page not being vertically centred between the arrows that flank it.
- Fixed a bug preventing you from opening the Mod Manager on PC when using a controller.
- Fixed the button prompts in the Mod Details page not updating correctly when using a controller.
- Fixed the filter tags in the Mod Manager not appearing in localised languages and made sure that the English string is shown as a backup in case there's an issue with fetching the translation.
- The mod browser scrollbar now resets to the top when you navigate to a previous or next page.
- On PS5, the Mod Manager now correctly reports the amount of remaining memory after uninstalling a mod.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when changing pages in the Mod Manager.
- Fixed clients on a multiplayer game getting caught in an enable–disable loop in the Mod Verification Window when trying to disable a mod that the host doesn't have.
- Updated the 'Explicit Content' filter's name to 'Mature Content'.

GAME
Gameplay
- Improved loading times for players with many mods installed.
- You can no longer add items to your wares even if they cannot become wares (e.g. pact weapons) by selecting them along with another item that can become a ware. This prevents a trade exploit where you could sell your wares and the bound items would not leave your inventory. Any more of these up your sleeves?
- Fixed Honour Mode features, like Legendary Actions, carrying over to non-Honour-Mode games if you'd previously loaded an Honour Mode save.
- On PS5, fixed the DualSense lightbar updating colours every single frame of the game when a new user logs in with a new controller.
- Resolved an issue with Wyll opting for negative greeting nodes even when he does like you.
- Fixed the character models becoming offset in the Trade UI when switching between trade and barter when using a controller.
Crashes and Blockers
- Fixed a crash when trying to load into a playthrough rather than a particular savegame within that playthrough.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when loading a savegame.
- On PS5, fixed a potential crash when going full disco on the DualSense lightbar.

It would appear that Us is causing everybody a few sleepless nights, and that troublesome fleshy blob has been continuing to block some players from taking a Short Rest. If you continue to experience this issue after uninstalling mods, please contact our support team and submit a full report to help us solve your issue.

Mac players, we have now resolved an issue introduced in a previous Hotfix that was causing performance and FPS drops on the platform. Update your game with this latest hotfix, and check that you are on version 4.1.1.5009956!
