The day we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived! And we didn’t fool you! Or did we? I guess we’ll have to wait and see if the game implodes or something! But yes, you heard that right – BattleBlock Theater’s Quality of Life Remaster is here as a FREE update to all who own the game already!
I bet you’re all very excited to see Hatty Hattington again, but in case you want to learn more about what’s been happening to BattleBlock Theater behind the curtains, you’re in the right place. Behold your eyes to the dazzling “Quality of Life Remaster Changelog!”
Please note that this game was recoded in its entirety, meaning so many small changes have been made that listing them all out here would wrap around the planet Earth three times in its entirety! Yes, really!!! We’ve decided to list only the juiciest of changes here for your convenience. Enjoy!
General Changes
1. Game Menu
Menus are now more responsive than before with improved graphic and text visuals. Mouse scrolling support has been added where applicable. Dazzling!
2. Art Resolution
BattleBlock Theater’s art no longer has a fixed resolution, making everything look more crisp on high resolution displays. No more crunchy compression!
3. Cats Harmed
A new “Cats Harmed” number now appears in the credits to reflect the amount of murder committed by the player. Mwehehehe!
4. Steam Inventory Updates
Improvements have been made to Gem and Yarn stacking in player inventories.
5. Rich Presence
Rich Presence is now implemented, so your friends can see when you’ve been stuck in INSANE mode for hours at a time!
6. Join Codes
Join Codes can now be used in Online Sessions! You no longer have to add users to your Friends List to play online or hunt for achievements together.
7. Level Previews
Level Previews now have improved graphic fidelity.
8. Controller and Gamepad Support
Support for more controller types has been added, including X1, XSX, XSS, PS4, PS5, Switch Pro, and more! Steam Input compatibility has been added!
9. Guest Users
In Online Sessions, guest users now display the main user whose game they’ve joined.
10. Custom Head Improvements – Hotfix Imminent!
Custom Heads should look better than ever! We added support for a decal image that has non-colorized elements. Note: this will be working as intended with the first hotfix to hit the game sometime this week. Oops!
11. Audio Improvements
Buckle your pants, pull up your socks and dance because there are now higher audio bitrates for delicious sound!
12. Minor Art Cleanup
We cleaned up some Cat Guard art here and there to make things silky smooth! But wait, aren’t cats supposed to clean themselves?
13. Leaderboard Reset
All BattleBlock Theater leaderboards except the Global Ranking leaderboard have been reset. To repost your high score for any of the Arena leaderboards, you must win a match in that specific mode. Get to it, then!
Gameplay Changes
1. Raccoon Monster
Raccoon Monsters now move on conveyor belts properly when waking up and walk on Secret Blocks properly.
2. Cat Guards
Cat Guard enemies avoid Water Blocks more than previously, and Gem Agent enemies now flee from the player more consistently.
3. Lift Blocks
Lift Blocks no longer kill you when you’re crouching beneath them. Hooray!
4. Teleport Blocks
Players can no longer travel through a Teleporter that has a Trigger Block directly in front of it. Once the Trigger is activated and the block is removed, the Teleporter can be used normally. Beam me up, Hatty!
5. Fan Blocks
Fan Blocks are now stronger, especially if you're standing on Ice Blocks.
6. Boulders
Touching the bottom of a boulder no longer kills you. Warning: they will still crush you if you're on the ground!
7. Horse… Tofu?
Horses falling into enemies mounted or unmounted now behave more consistently.
8. Acid Bubble (Weapon Tool)
Acid Bubbles now function properly when spawned within Secret Blocks.
9. Paper Airplane (Weapon Tool)
Paper Airplanes teleport more smoooothly than before.
10. Dart Gun (Weapon Tool)
Dart Gun projectiles that are stuck to walls are easier to unstick with another projectile. In other words, you'll spend less time being stuck trying to unstick a dart you stuck somewhere that you didn't mean for it to stick. Whew!
11. Level Editor Input
Users can delete and place blocks much faster than before in the Level Editor thanks to more responsive input!
12. Level Editor Max Block Limit
The max limit for each Block type now displays when using the Level Editor.
13. Ball Game (Arena)
Ball Game’s ball now has more realistic physics, including torque!
14. Challenge (Arena)
Logic for entities are run on the machine currently playing the level, making the mode more fair than ever before! The team win tally now shows properly after every match, too.
15. Color the World (Arena)
Block types that have basic block elements like Teleport Blocks and Monkey Bars are now colorable.
16. Capture the Horse (Arena)
A fix has been implemented for the Horse icon functionality when there is more than one horse.
17. Arena AI Improvements
A few bug fixes have been made to improve AI enemy actions in BattleBlock Theater’s 8 Arena mini-games, including fixes for AI getting stuck in Up Fan Blocks, issues with AI attacking while mounted on a Horse, and more!
Story Campaign Updates
1. Hidden Gems
Hidden gems and other puzzles have been remixed to make Solo and Co-op campaigns more distinct from each other.
2. Overall Level Balance
Generally, if anything was too easy or too difficult to obtain, small tweaks may have been made. In some instances, gameplay changes (like Lift Blocks no longer killing the player when crouching beneath them) inspired tweaks to maintain a level’s overall difficulty.
3. Co-op Tweaks
Some sequences and puzzles have been adjusted to require BOTH players to go through. Sounds like more opportunities to murder your co-op partner to me, though!
4. Secret Levels
Some secret areas have been reworked or moved! But where? And how many? Welllllll, it’s a secret!
5. A++ Times
A++ times have been adjusted, sometimes shorter, sometimes longer, to better represent chapter/level difficulty.
