Official update history
June Hotfix #1
- Fixed an issue where players were incorrectly being told they needed to re-add existing songs to My Music
We are still looking into a number of other reported issues from the June Update and expect to have a second hotfix to address many of them
-----
We are back with our first large update since Early Access Launch! We got out two quick hotfixes in response to the feedback and bugs we received - and this is our first delivery focused on new content (but also bug fixes and adjustments as well!)
In this updated we wanted to give some new content across the board (Challenge, Dance Moves, an arena, a new outfit, and even a new song) while adding more tools to the Custom Challenges toolbox. Many of the adjustments we made were drawn directly from feedback and reports from all of you. You'll also see us take full advantage of Early Access by introducing things at an early stage so we can use your feedback to inform future improvements.
Please let us know what you think about all the new toys - we are listening!
Gameplay:
- ALL LEADERBOARDS HAVE BEEN RESET. With the changes and new update, we wanted a fresh slate for folks to compete for high scores!
- Fixed an issue where Dex could get out of bounds in the final phase of his boss fight
- Added a new animation for Meteor kicks
- Fixed bridge transition to be more in sync in Dex's level
- Created new quick get-up animations for when the player gets knocked backwards/forwards and initiates a timely dodge
- Fixed a bug where enemies might end up in the air or above Charlie when performing perfect counters
- Some objects that were blocking the view on Hemlock's platform now properly dither
- Improved lighting quality and optimization pass on Prophet Boss's Phase 1 and 2
- Pick-up FX for hearts and hidden objects should be more obvious

- Adjusted security guard baton FX to make slashes more visible
- Adjusted position of Finisher indicator and Health Bar
- We have fixed a bug that prevented Charlie from picking the correct counter where he blocks a punch coming from his right side. Thanks Ryze for the report on Discord!
- Updated car flyby sounds in Prophet. Also added more variations to honk warning indicators

- We have made Charlie's ranged attacks feel more fluid thanks to nicer clockwise vs counter-clockwise rotations based on the previous animations

- Elite Echoes can be spawned in Custom Challenges
- The new Challenge spawns enemies with Super Armor. Enemies with Super Armor have additional health (as armor) and do not flinch with being hit. Super Armor enemies are not available in Custom Challenges yet, but are planned for the next update
We'd love to hear your feedback about Super Armor and Elite Echoes to help us in the future!
Selectable Dance Moves:
- Dance moves have been added to the Cosmetics menu, where they can be unlocked.
- A Dance can be equipped to one of 4 inputs (1,2,3,4 keys on keyboards by default, d-pad for controller).
- If no dance is assigned to an input explicitly, a random dance among unlocked ones will be used.

- However there are new Dance Moves to obtain now as well!

Thank you so much for your support and positive reviews! We continue to work hard to make Dead as Disco the best it can be <3
Gameplay
- Fixed issue where occasionally a perfect dodge wouldn’t be considered as such when dodging Arora’s meteors. The red indicator should now also be more helpful and consistent. If you felt like this attack was unfair sometimes — you were right.
- Fixed issue where Arora’s meteor and Prophet’s car throw could occasionally land instantly.
- Fixed issue during the Arora Boss where being at the edge of the arena can cause the meteors to miss the platform and the indicator will blink forever.
- Fixed rare issue where players could get stuck inside a falling meteor from Arora.
- Fixed issue in Dex’s level where it’s possible to get stuck floating on the edge of a platform after a Mosher attack.
- Adjusted the timing on Dex’s intro to not be as awkward (and show a random floating heart).
- Fixed issue where Charlie could get stuck and fall through the destroyed bridge in Dex’s level.
- Prophet should no longer get stuck out of bounds near the edge of the arena in Boss Phase 2.
- Fixed some sound effects not playing in Prophet, Arora and Dex levels.
- Adjusted sound effects for when the Fever Bar reaches full.
- Updated Shocked tooltip to include that enemies take extra damage when hit while Shocked.
- Fixed a bug where bosses could have missing indicators.
Infinite Disco
- Added a separate tab for Free Play vs Custom Challenges. Added an initial panel to select which mode to start with. This was to address feedback that the experience could be clearer.
- Free Play songs now have heart drops from enemies. The Free Play experience is intended to be easier (like the demo), and Challenges are where to go for a more challenging experience.
- Free Play songs now have Leaderboards.
- Fixed issue where the shuffle checkbox UI could become inconsistent with the actual playlist shuffle state.
- Fixed issue where restarting Challenges during the countdown causes the next countdown to start earlier.
- Challenges - Gravitational Pull challenge objective now works for any level of Singularity charge (not just max).
- Challenges - fixed an issue where Match Made in Heaven was awarding Fans instead of Points at certain thresholds.
- Dead End Drive arena: the crowd shouldn’t invade the playable space anymore and should dither on low-medium settings.
Accessibility
- Added color blind settings in Video > Settings.
New Challenges (yes, even in a hotfix we’ll roll out some new content!)
- There are 2 new Challenges to play: Complex Situation and Studio Smash Hit.
- Complex Situation has you rush to complete 7 Takedowns while weaving in Heavy Attacks. Unlock the new “God Complex” arena on completion.
- Studio Smash Hit has you focus on mastering the Showstopper ability. Unlock the new “Studio Speakeasy” arena on completion.
General
- Level Select - Levels now show a brief description for the selected level. Story levels show the highest scores and stars.
- Level Select - Changed the names of the difficulties from Easy/Normal to Chill/Amped and added descriptions about the differences. This was done after watching players automatically select Normal instead of an experience that fits the type of gameplay they want. The goal is to make the differences clear so players can select what is best for their playstyle.
- Fixed issue where Dex was playing some of Hemlock’s VO.
- Prophet’s hood should no longer clip into his head during the finale cinematic.
- Fixed sound effects on some transitions.
- Adjusted the tutorial to have the player do more of each action.
- Reduced the amount of work during the initial benchmark and Auto-Set in Video Settings. This should solve rare issues where players were getting stuck here.
Localization
- Fixed Ukrainian difficulty names so they fit correctly and no longer overlap on the level select screen (should be fixed for real this time).
Some highlights: We saw some issues with Hemlock we’d never seen before and your videos and clips are helping us track down the root causes. We watched people struggle with the meteors in Arora’s fight and realized we made a major oopsie there - that’s now resolved. People going crazy on custom challenges brought a whole list of issues to light that we’ve addressed.
This is just a start - we’ll continue to make improvements to the first time flow and make it smoother and easier to find the fun in Infinite Disco (in addition to everything on our roadmap). We are on a (brand new) mission to make this the most fun game you’ve ever played!
Gameplay:
- Possible fix for an issue where Hemlock sometimes wouldn’t correctly transition to his final boss phase (as well as added additional logging to help us debug this case)
- Possible fix where Hemlock could end up under the world if you hit him with a Drumstick Toss as he was transitioning to phase 3
- Arora's meteors are now more consistent when it comes to perfect dodging. Timing should be more generous and players will no longer get hit when they properly dodge
- Fixed a few rare cases where inputs would seem ignored (under the hood it was a problem with our gameplay system not finding a valid animation to play)
- Fixed a bug where the guards would not always play all the hit reactions they should during finishers
Custom Challenges:
- Fixed required ability names not always displaying when using the “Perform an ability a certain number of times” custom challenge objective
- Removed Leaderboards from custom challenges, these were not intended.
- Fixed enemies being able to spawn out of bounds during custom challenges
- Fixed an issue where Arora’s projectile attacks sometimes wouldn’t fire when spawned into a custom challenge
- Fixed an issue where enemies from a previous wave could re-appear during the next wave if one wave used a spawn pattern and the other did not
- Fixed custom challenges that use My Music not updating when their song is added/modified
General:
- Added an “Early Access” indicator element to the Main Menu UI
- Fans Per Second earned increased from 1 to 2 per second in Story and Infinite Disco to help players earn Fans faster
- Free Play is now the default tab when entering Infinite Disco
- Level Select now shows stars for completed levels and total challenge stars for Infinite Disco
- Boss remixes are now available in Free Play once unlocked in the Jukebox (after the record is purchased)
- Charlie’s Mixtape now plays by default in the Encore instead of being silent
- Infinite Disco - Added a warning text to let players know they need to set the tempo before the song can be saved, also added a requirement of setting a tempo/BPM value before saving, instead of prepopulating with default value of 120. Many players thought 120 was an auto-detected value. We do hope to get auto-detection in the future.
- Setting the Tempo in Advanced Editor now changes it in My Music when a song is initially added
- Fixed an issue where decimals weren’t working properly in My Music tempos
- Dialogue will no longer cut out music when set to 0 volume in Settings. The effect scales down with VO volume
- Added a new jingle sound for collectables
- Fixed a possible crash when launching for players using mods
- Fixed the slightly squashed visuals during the Hemlock Animated Boss transition
- Fixed delay in displaying leaderboards when gameplay is paused
- Fixed Infinite Disco arena reverting to the default arena sometimes
- Idol arenas now unlock in Infinite Disco immediately after the relevant challenges are completed, the player no longer has to exit and re-enter Infinite Disco in order for them to appear
- Fixed Drumsticks not displaying the correct material during gameplay
Localization:
- Fixed Ukrainian difficulty names so they fit correctly and no longer overlap on the level select screen
- Fixed “Wave Spawns” not being properly localized
- Fix a couple of cases where Japanese and Traditional Chinese characters appear as ?

So many playtests and patches, and so much feedback! From advanced beatmap UI polish to late night balance suggestions, you have already helped to shape this game so much.
But now it’s time to buckle up, because the road to 1.0 will be glorious.

Each season of patches is themed around a music festival, containing multiple update patches along the way. The Summer Flames Festival kicks everything off, with 3 major stops:
=====
May: HOTFIXXXS
=====
Update 1 – June
Our first update brings major additions to Infinite Disco and My Music. Highlights:
Custom Challenge Playlists linked to My Music
The return of Arena Swaps (new and improved)
Selectable Dances so you can customize your flow
New Arenas, Challenges, and Mods
And tons more
With every update, you can expect quality of life improvements asked for by you, as well as balance changes, ability improvements, narrative additions, and a list of additions too long to mention (honestly, I really can’t stop the team sometimes).
Update 2 – Midsummer
Midsummer turns up the heat with a major expansion to our rockstar wardrobe options, a wave of fresh memorabilia & collectibles, and a few summer surprises. We’re also planning to pair it with a mid-season balance and abilities pass based on your feedback.
Update 3 – Boss Idol Finale!
We finish out the summer with an XL patch dropping our first new Idol, along with everything you’d expect: full music video story level, new killer music, skills and signature ability, enemies, narrative, collectibles, fashion, and additions to the UGC tools.
Fall, Winter, & onto 1.0
Our Festivals will continue into the Autumn holiday season and through the depths of Winter, revealing new Idols as we go. With each festival we gain a clearer understanding of how close we truly are to 1.0.
We currently plan to launch 1.0 in 2027, with a massive launch patch focused on refreshing the experience for everyone, infusing the game with final secrets, and delivering the final narrative arc.
Along the Way…
Many Early Access features are bigger than any single patch, so let’s call them out:
New Idols / How Many Idols Are There? We haven’t confirmed the full roster of the band formerly known as Dead as Disco, but 4 of them are the Boss Idols available at early access launch.
Difficulty, Challenges, & End Game. These items will be added in pieces through many updates. New enemy variants, mods, enemy behavior, level patterns, and true hard mode are among the many pieces we will release over the course of early access. But the final end game battle against Harmony Corp (and true ending) will be saved for the 1.0 release.
Co-op Multiplayer. This is a big one, and we won’t release it until it's ready. Our Beat Kune Do gameplay introduces a lot of new multiplayer problems to solve. Our goal is to add even more spectacle without sacrificing the flow that makes the gameplay so special.
Even More Music Coming. More licensed music, more covers, more streamer safe originals – the hits just keep on coming! We have an incredible year of music lined up for you.
Skill & Abilities. We’re just getting started. In addition to the new skills and signature abilities introduced with every new Boss Idol, we’ll be revising and expanding the existing skill trees over early access. The skills have already benefited tremendously from player feedback, and we don’t plan to stop now.
Leaderboards. As we listen to feedback and tune the game, the competitive landscape will naturally change, so we will employ a “Leaderboard Seasons” strategy. The names of the winners of each season will be saved in the community (and hopefully the game one day) so they can be celebrated properly before resetting the Leaderboards for the new season of balance.
Narrative, VO, & The Encore. The game will have full VO, but currently VO is limited to the story levels and tutorial. VO will be added to The Encore – our dive bar and music club hub – over time. New narrative arcs will be added as each Idol is revealed, but the final story arc won’t land until 1.0.
Replay, Editing, and Photo Support. We want to give our creators the ultimate tools to capture every moment and angle of the violent kaleidoscope. Photo mode will arrive sooner than replay, because replay functionality is linked to many of the same issues as multiplayer and will take time.
Automatic BPM Detection for My Music. We’d love for you to pop in a new song and for combat to “just work”. We’re looking into solutions, but for now you’ll still need to manually calibrate the beats per minute when you add songs.
More Mod Support. We have been blown away by the modding of the demo, and will continue to keep the game moddable during Early Access. We are also looking into the best way to support mods more officially, whether through a third party integration like mod.io, or something in-house. For now, it’s safe to say that we can’t wait to see what you do with the game, and we look forward to providing even more.
Additional Accessibility & Calibration Settings. Due to the vibrant nature of the game, we need to pay special attention to accessibility to keep Dead as Disco enjoyable for as many folks as possible. We also have to do it for two genres that both demand a lot of accessibility and calibration options: rhythm & action. But the good news is that Early Access is the fastest way to get the feedback we need to improve our settings. (Special call out to those of you waiting patiently for on-press attack options – it’s on the list)
And So Much More...
Thank you again for all the support and feedback that got us here, and for all it will take to get us to 1.0. It’s going to be a year to remember.
See you on the dance floor!
-Will Cook
