SPORE™

SPORE is Maxis's 2008 evolutionary sandbox — Will Wright's ambitious, sometimes-uneven attempt to combine Civilization-scale strategy, RTS, monster-creator toy, and space-empire 4X into a single five-stage progression. You start as a microscopic single cell in a tide pool, evolve through Creature, Tribe, Civilization, and Space stages, with each stage playing as a different genre and feeding character/aesthetic data forward into the next.

The Space stage is what most players actually invested hundreds of hours into — once you reach the galactic scale, SPORE becomes a sandbox empire-builder where you terraform planets, recruit alien allies, fight off Grox raids, and slowly explore a procedurally generated galaxy of millions of star systems. The creature/vehicle/building creation tools were genuinely revolutionary and remain influential in modern game design.

Released as ElAmigos. 4.4 GB installed. Fully offline-playable, no EA / Origin account required. Single-player only — the original Sporepedia online sharing service was shut down by EA in 2017, so the cracked build is functionally complete in single-player and offers no missing features.
