About the Game

You’re A Small Fish In A Big Apocalypse.
Scavenge and fight for your next day alive under the shadow of gargantuan war machines. Enemies in the game can literally tower over the battlefield. To put it another way:

War. War Always Changes.
The battlefield is unpredictable thanks to The Forever Winter’s Dynamic Encounter system: enemies have their own goals and agendas, operating in coordinated groups, undertaking full-scale battles — and they’ll intelligently react to your actions. The battlefield you leave won’t be the same one you return to.
Only The Smart Survive - But Guns Help.
Use your wits, stealth, and skilled gunplay to make it out alive. Choose your path in the shadow of the two great superpowers, loot the dead, and make it out alive. While the warring factions may ignore you at first, the more disruptive you become to their goals, the more they'll seek to remove you from the equation.
A Grim Vision Of The Future.
Ecological collapse compounded by runaway technological advancement brought us here: a world choked by 40 years of industrial-scale violence between two military superpowers, unmerciful mass killing by AI automata, human-machine hybrids, and the bleak truth of human nature. There’s two sides to this war, and you’re not on either.

Hotfix 0.9.5.3 is now live.
Version 0.9.5.3 Hotfix
Hello Scavs!
This hotfix focuses on two specific changes.
Hope the week has been amazing so far! Stay frosty.
- Fundog Out
Changes / Update Details:
AI Hearing
AI now have less information about the exact location they hear if they aren’t already aware of the noise-maker. The further away the nose, the less specific the location knowledge.
Player Knockdown
Some enemy weaponry has been modified so they require multiple hits within a window of time to knock the player down.
Other weapons / impacts still can knock the player down instantly (usually the larger / more explosive attacks).
REMINDER:
Scavs can button mash to speed up the recovery from being knocked down. This does consume stamina (unless the Scav is Gunhead or has a stim active, in which case the button mash just works).
If a Scav is knocked down multiple times in a single mission a tool tip will appear on screen reminding them they can button mash. The button mash works regardless (the tool tip isn’t required for the mashing feature to be active).
Hotfix 0.9.5.2 is now live.
Version 0.9.5.2 Hotfix
Hello Scavs!
More quality feedback keeps coming in from many players. This hotfix addresses these specific issues. Stay frosty out there.
- Fundog Out
Changes / Update Details:
Network
Fixed an issue where selecting a host that displayed “-” for ping could potentially cause a crash or bad connection.
AI
Fixed issue where some vfx could potentially block AI vision in specific levels.
Fixed issue where mechs / mech weaponry could potentially become aware of the player prematurely.
Gunhead
Fixed an issue where Gunhead’s head could potentially gimbal lock; denying the player the correct shooting angles.
Hotfix 0.9.5.1 is now live.
Version 0.9.5.1 Hotfix
Hello Scavs!
Already got some good feedback from many players. As such, here is a quick day-of hotfix for today’s release.
- Fundog Out
Changes / Update Details:
WEAPONRY
Fix an issue where firing one weapon could cause many of the recoil systems in the other weapon to become disabled.
Fixed issue preventing the firing audio for the PM-9 from playing if the weapon is equipped with a suppressor.
AI
AI will now notice near-miss shots as well as damaging shots.
If the AI is looking at the player and the player shoots at them (but misses):
The AI will go from unaware to suspicious if unaware.
The AI will go from suspicious to agro if suspicious.
If the AI is not looking at the player and the player shoots at them (but misses):
They will go from unaware to suspicious UNLESS the weapon was suppressed.
Obviously, damaging shots will still make the AI agro.
Hotfix 0.9.4.2 is now live.
Version 0.9.4.2 Hotfix
Hello Scavs!
Here are some more adjustments and fixes for the latest update. Onwards to the next battle!
- Fundog Out
Changes / Update Details:
WEAPONRY
An improvement was made to make sure that all weapons have adjustments for height over bore. Note that the weapon’s accuracy and recoil still applies
The 3rd person crosshair will now consistently react appropriately to player shots / accuracy when fired by both server / solo players and clients in multiplayer
WEAPONRY STATS
A change was made to the DISPLAY of recoil and stability stats
This did NOT change the core effectiveness / capabilities of the weapons or the weapon customization components
This DID change how those numbers appear in the UI (and what those numbers are) to more accurately reflect the weapon’s effectiveness
This also addressed some issues where some customization items (such as foregrips and muzzle devices) were not showing correct numbers
ECONOMY
Every player will receive a one-time delivery of 3 construction drones from the Rat King when they next enter the innards
AI
Another code improvement was made to prevent choppers and / or drones calculating the distance to the ground before the terrain loads in
An adjustment was made to prevent an occasional issue where dead AI would potentially communicate awareness info they had to their still-living allies
A fix was implemented to prevent AI from communicating awareness of a player to their enemies
For example: if a Europan saw / heard / became aware of a player, it would occasionally communicate this info to Eurasians. That should no longer occur
Hi Scavs! Hotfix 0.9.4.1 is now live.
Version 0.9.4.1 Hotfix
Hello Scavs!
Thanks to everyone who has checked out the firearm update so far! This hotfix addresses some specific issues and concerns that we have seen. Also, if you love thermite (and who doesn’t?) this hotfix has a change you should appreciate as well.

Changes / Update Details:
Firearms
Fixed an issue where the damage statistic for weaponry would sometimes show an incorrect damage number
Adjusted wording for shotgun damage stat to “MAX Damage” (since it shows the point blank damage & changes depending on distance and number of hits per shot)
Fixed issue where silencers were not working properly for some weaponry (enemies would still react to shooting when they were equipped)
Adjusted firearm damage for many weapons to be closer to pre-update numbers based on feedback
All adjustments for this hotfix are damage buffs from previous release
Note we will continue to monitor feedback on firearm stats and will make additional adjustments in the future if warranted
Tunnel Vendors
In-tunnel vendors will now have thermite in their inventory (look in the large-items category)
Value of Thermite adjusted

Hello Scavs,
The next QOL update (0938) is now available!
Below is a list of everything that went into this release. The primary focus was on player movement, bug fixing, and general housekeeping.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Due to weapon functionality & inventory improvements / bug fixes: all weapon presets will be deleted when you launch this update. You will receive a pop-up notification in game (in the Innards) when this happens. This will not remove any of your items. It does require you to re-customize your weapons and re-save the presets.
The next push is gonna be a ton of weapon tuning, and some more targeted AI work after that. Mother courage quests will continue in June as well as something Burst related>>
Again, we can't stress this enough, thank you for supporting the artbook and the soundtrack! Because of you, we’re able to make some LP’s and we’ll bring the first batch to SDCC 2026>>
See you in the wastes!

IMPROVEMENTS / ADJUSTMENTS
Player Movement
Player Scavs are able to strafe / move left and right while sprinting.
Movement after a mantle, vault, or climb should feel much smoother.
The stamina cost for “button mashing” during knockdowns, vaults, and climbing has been reduced.
Camera Control
The player’s camera uses a new “free cam” mode, where camera rotation is detached from the Scav’s facing direction unless specific combat actions, such as attacking, require alignment.
This can be disabled in the options menu for players who prefer the previous camera system.
There are now options to change the default 3rd person FOV, the over-the-shoulder FOV, and the sprint FOV. Each of these can be tuned separately to a desired angle.
For this first pass, the range is +/- 10 degrees from default.
We will explore allowing more flexibility and the possibility of modifying other modes in the future.
Enemy Spawning
The factions can deploy a more varied roster of units and unit compositions, added to most regions to help break up repetition.
Additional spawn checks have been implemented to reduce cases where enemies spawn directly behind players. This will continue to be worked on in future updates.
A bug has been addressed where HKs could appear based on POTENTIAL damage inflicted by players instead of ACTUAL damage inflicted.
Weapon Functionality
Iron sight / ADS fixes have been made for the following weapons to provide the intended sight picture in ADS / first-person.
XM25 Grenade Launcher
GM6 Rifle
TKB-0146 Rifle
USP Pistol
SOG Pistol
C96 Pistol
Viper Pistol
Mateo Model J Pistol
G19 Pistol
MPL SMG
Spectre SMG
Many attachments have had their positions adjusted to be correct in specific weapon customization combinations.
Miscellaneous Improvements and Adjustments
A new customization option is available to manufacture and install: the Manufacture Booster
This decreases all ITEM manufacture times by ⅓
There is now an option to disable the 180 degree spin ability for those who do not like it / are accidentally triggering it when they don’t wish to.
Various music mix and trigger adjustments have been made.
Various SFX adjustments have been made.
In-world loot icons (attached to loot-able objects) have been adjusted to require the player to be closer for them to appear.
Loot crate placement and RNG appearance has been adjusted for regions.
Hitpoints have been adjusted for HK gunships, scramblers, crawlers, and enemy turret placements.
Many mech melee attacks / ground pound criteria have been adjusted for both damage and behavior, allowing mechs to better defend themselves against targets behind them.
Players now have more health when revived by another player.
Adjusted the timed extraction logic in Scrapyard Nexus to make enemy AI investigate as intended.
Stamina stims now last slightly longer once used.
Additional Bug Fixes
Several edge case crash bugs where going from a tunnel to a region and / or going from a region to a tunnel have been addressed.
Fixed an issue where some attachments for some weaponry could attach at the wrong location with specific customization combinations.
Some issues where playing multiplayer in poor network conditions could result in the clients not having a HUD or seeing “hello world” over their head have been addressed. This will continue to be worked on in future updates. We have seen it persist in very poor network conditions such as 250 ping or more.
A bug causing HK gunship lasers to not point in the right direction for clients in multiplayer environments has been fixed.
A rare issue where Opals could choose to spawn in an invalid area (causing them to instantly explode or disappear) has been addressed.
An issue where players would sometimes have to close and re-open the crafting menu to receive instantly available crafting items has been addressed.
Fixed an issue where weapon optics could sometimes be seen thru the player character wielding the weapon when in 3rd person mode.
Fixed an issue where weaponry lasers wouldn’t replicate (you can now see your ally lasers when they aim).
Fixed several assets in the tunnels that could block AI vision, causing them to act oddly or not react to visible threats.
Fixed an issue where some options wouldn’t properly reset to defaults.
Fixed an issue where a player could get stuck in the “donating water” interface in poor network conditions.
Fixed a couple of recipes that had incorrect tags (causing multiple items to appear to be manufacturing at once in the UI).
