About the Game
Build a medieval village within a completely interactively simulated world!
Townsmen VR leverages the exciting possibilities of virtual reality to enhance the classic city-building game further, offering entirely new gameplay experiences and interactive mechanics. The game combines elements of a God-game simulation and a classic building game with the interactive possibilities of VR controls. Whether viewed from a bird's-eye view or zoomed in close, you will always experience the action from the proper perspective.
Start with a small settlement and expand your might over a world of 13 different islands and archipelagos. Filled to the brim with exciting features, gizmos, and things to lay your virtual hands on. Build and upgrade more than 20 unique buildings. Immerse yourself in a thrilling story with many exciting quests, or play completely free in the sandbox mode with goals set by you. Hours of fun are guaranteed!
You are God!
As the population of your empire grows, so does the demand for food and goods. Production chains help you meet this need. When you build farms, you can grind the grain harvest there at the mill and bake delicious bread for your Townies from the flour. Your windmill won’t operate when the winds are calm? No worries, give those wings a push. Slap that lazy dude with a fish or help your citizens collect about 20 different raw materials. Do you want to see the world you helped create from the perspective of a townsman? Use your godly powers and scale yourself to experience your town at eye level with your townies.
A not-so-peaceful land
Farm animals, such as cows, sheep, and chickens, provide essential resources for food production. Your hunters will find rabbits and deer to stalk and hunt. You must be cautious of wild animals, such as wolves or bears, that you encounter. Seagulls are eager to steal your catch, while above the battlefields the crows caw, and high up in the sky, eagles fly free.
In time, you should begin to hire soldiers to defend your realm against intruders and enemy forces! Besides different types of soldiers, you can also make use of heavy artillery: A catapult can punch sensitive gaps in the enemy’s ranks! And should you run out of boulders, remember: everything you can lay your hands on can be used as ammo! However, the enemy kingdom is not the only problem your soldiers will face. Some islands are infested with sinister pirates who are after your precious resources!
Explore islands in new ways
Intuitive control of the environment allows you to move about – you can literally crawl over the island or adjust your viewpoint as you would position images on your smartphone. You’ll get accustomed to ruling your empire very fast.
Most of the islands you visit during the campaign can be unlocked for unrestricted play in the sandbox mode. You'll be able to choose whether you want to play completely without constraints, or give yourself a bit of excitement and accept the challenges you choose. Determine the number of townies you start the game with, defeat all opponents or fight against thieving pirates – the various settings offer you enough freedom for your personal gaming experience!

Steam Patch Notes
Official update history
- Fixed player position not always saving and loading correctly in Sandbox mode.
- Fixed enemy attacks in Sandbox mode not always working correctly.
Changes
- Fixed invisible Russian font.
- Fixed an issue where the "fat chicken" wasn't ever spawned from the henhouse.
we pushed a small update to help with a specific issue some players reported.
The game usually pauses when you take off the headset, displaying a "headset not mounted" message. But if for some reason that detection doesn't work correctly, the game can appear as always paused, preventing you from playing the game.
If you are experiencing this issue, you can now start the game with the launch option "-nopause" to deactivate the headset detection.
To add this launch option, right-click Townsmen VR in your library and click on "Properties...".
Under GENERAL add "-nopause" (without quotation marks) in the field labelled LAUNCH OPTIONS.
Hope that helps and thank you for playing! :)
Happy holidays!

Some people reported random crashes while playing the game. We weren’t able to reproduce these crashes on our testing machines, but thanks to your bug reports we could see that they were all connected to Unity’s multithreaded rendering.
Since then we have uploaded a beta branch with a build that doesn’t support multithreaded rendering. This version didn’t crash for anyone but of course the performance is worse.
In version 0.14 we now have officially updated to a newer version of Unity that should contain a fix for the multithreaded rendering issue. Please let us know if this fixes the crashes for you.
Other fixes in this version:
• Fixed a broken game state that appeared if you tried to hit Baron Melvin with lightning strikes.
• Fixed projectiles not working correctly anymore after you chose the “RESTART” option from the menu.
• Fixed an issue that appeared if you restarted the game while an enemy ship was at the island.
We are currently also working on the save system and random attacks, so we hope that we can have another update ready soon.
For feedback please visit the Steam forums!
• Added command line parameter –noaudioinput that allows you to deactivate microphone and voice recognition completely
• Fixed exception in SteamApi initialization
• Added graphics option to activate soft particles (default is now off)
• You can now feed the cat dead fish (although cats still won’t search for fish on their own)
• Fixed an issue where you got stuck in the tutorial if you burned down the woodcutter’s hut before being told how to construct new buildings
If you experience or have experienced crashes before:
• Don’t activate soft particles
• If it still crashes, switch to the beta channel
To subscribe to the beta channel, right click on the game in your steam library, select Properties->BETAS and choose the beta branch from the dropdown menu. This version needs more GPU power, but should be more stable.
As always please keep us updated in the forums of how the versions are working for you!
Thank you!
• Fixed some crashes
• Fixed an issue where building previews disappeared from the build menu (if you grabbed them while they were invisible)
• Fixed overlapping dialogs between Sir Clunkalot and Baron Melvin if you quickly hit the baron several times
• Fixed collider on landing stage
• Reduced the townsmen’s reaction to player speech
• Fixed Sir Clunkalot speeding up the windmill wings when talking
Please keep us updated in the forums if this patch fixes your problems or you stumble over new ones!
Thank you!
Update: Actually the patch didn't fix the crashes as we have hoped it would. We uploaded a badly optimized debug build in the beta channel that seems to fix the crashes. So everybody experiencing crashes please try that beta build as we are working to optimize it to bring it to the public.
