About the Game

Kings love fast cars, crazy creations, and crashes. Let’s find out why!

Build cars with combustion or electric engines, or maybe both? You design the powertrain using axles, gears and suspensions to get the power from the engines through the wheels and onto the asphalt. Whether you build rear-wheel-drive, or power all 30 wheels of your speed machine, as long as you engineer a gear transmission, you are guaranteed to go!

Design and engineer your own car, truck, tank, plane or whatever you can think of in the easy-to-use build editor. Whether you have 4 wheels, 16 wheels, propellers, pistons, or 50 engines... vehicle construction is all yours!
Realistic or ridiculous – it’s up to you!

There’s a group of fancy royals convinced they have the best cars in the world, and who better than you to prove them wrong! Each monarch uses different building blocks to activate special mechanical features in their vehicles. Challenge them and beat their creations to unlock new engines, wheels and gears.

Take your top turbo-powered creations, start up a multiplayer server, and invite your friends to race around the island together in a variety of tracks and challenges!

Official update history
Good morning Screw Drivers
I have another small update for you, a mixture of bug fixes and some map editor improvements.
Here is the changelog of v1.1.23:
New Features
I added the king bug to the map editor (yes, really). Place it somewhere. It will start charging player cars passing by, and attack them. As bugs do.
You can now toggle inverting steering on suspensions. For this to work, you have to delete existing suspensions and place them again, so they get the new property. Then you can enable the steering inversion. Custom keybindings will come later probably.
You can now duplicate your selections in the map editor.
Snapping is now disabled by default and can/has to be toggled by holding the shift key.
The shift key also enables flying faster while holding it down.
If you delete custom maps, they are actually just renamed and excluded from the game. So accidentally deleted maps never actually get deleted.
Fixes
Fixed cars spawning under the map. The issue were unconnected powertrains while a shifter was present in the car. Fixed!
You can now bulid custom maps with only one starting grid position.
We had a bug, where custom maps were accidentally deleted by the game. Should be fixed.
Fixed a bunch of missing translations again (Mostly the on-screen messages)
Repairing and resetting didn't work in free drive in multiplayer. Should be fixed.
Some car calculations threw exceptions due to the wind resistance calculation. Should be fixed.
The tractor wheel needed the stunt wheel to unlock. Fixed that, it now needs the dirt wheel 3.
The poser spoiler was not included in the tech tree (I forgot that). Is now included.
Smoothed two or three terrain spikes on the Pulo9 Pangripta
Fixed a bug in the ID creation of the custom maps (Probably never occured, but still fixed)
Thank you, see you at gamescom or on the discord or on the multiplayer servers!
Simon
The map editor overhaul is here
The map editor got a decent quality of life update: you can now move and rotate everything you have already placed, snap elements onto each other, and test drive your map as a real race. On top of that there is a whole pile of multiplayer fixes.
New Features
Move and rotate placed elements. You can now properly select placed elements, and then translate, rotate them etc.
Snapping. Elements snap onto each other now, so ramps, platforms and bridges line up on their own. The scroll wheel (LB/RB on controller) cycles through the possible snapping points.
Multi selection. Select several elements at once, either by holding Shift or by dragging a rectangle over them. Moving, rotating and deleting then works on the whole selection.
19 new map editor elements: ramps, platforms, a triple and a quad jump, a start and goal line, towers, a tree, an arch, a bridge, scaffolding, a roof, a spinner and more.
Test map. The new button in the map editor menu drives your map as a real race, with checkpoints, laps and the race UI, and brings you back into the editor right where you left off.
Controls panel. A panel in the map editor lists every key and button it uses. F1 toggles it.
Deleting custom maps is possible again, right in the island menu of the map editor. For maps you are subscribed to on the Workshop, the button unsubscribes instead.
Improvements
Multiplayer: a race now starts as soon as everybody who is waiting in the garage is ready, instead of sitting out the rest of the countdown. The countdown itself is down from 2 minutes to 1 minute.
Repairing and resetting are now only possible while a multiplayer race is actually running. Before the start everybody stands on the same spot, and a repair shoved all the cars around you away.
Map editor elements now show their own name in the parts menu. Until now every single one of them was called "Angled beam".
Menus no longer keep a button preselected while you play with mouse and keyboard, so a menu key cannot click a button you never pointed at.
The V1 deco panels do not take up the space behind them anymore, so you can build parts right behind them.
Fixes
Fixed cars getting blasted apart when somebody changed cars while everyone was spawned in the same spot.
Fixed the wheels of other players' cars spinning around the wrong axis, and the wheels on one side of the car flipping over as soon as they were steered.
The engine sound of other players' cars was stepping along with the network packets. It follows the revs smoothly now.
Fixed the drivers license, the tutorials and the tech tree still being shown in multiplayer.
Fixed the daily best times button in the garage sitting on top of the chat.
Fixed only one of several spinners of a custom map being synced in multiplayer.
Fixed the settings of a checkpoint being lost when another element was selected right afterwards.
Fixed the properties panel staying open for elements that have no properties at all.
Fixed elements on a slope being tilted off it while they were rotated into place.
Fixed the invisible helper colliders of map elements getting in the way during a test drive.
Fixed scaled elements like the roof and the scaffolding snapping too close to their neighbour.
Thank you for all the reports and feedback as always. Wish you a happy week!
Simon
Good morning fellow Screw Drivers,
Over the last three days we uploaded two small updates, basically patches to fix some issues with the last big update. So these are the changes we made:
Fixed a bunch of bugs with chains. Now cars should not get errors or have floating chains, stop calculating etc. because of chains. There are probably still some bugs left, but I tried to fix a lot of them :)
The server browser crashesd all the time. It still does, but now it restarts automatically. So multiplayer and server browser should now be working.
In the multiplayer lobby, there was a lot of lagging happening. This should now also be fixed.
Fixed the general settings. There was a bug, so the settings did not apply. Should work again now. This also fixes the bug, where cars wouldn't automatically calculate in the garage anymore. Just make sure that you have turned that on in the settings, then it should automatically calculate your cars in the garage again ;)
Fixed the time of the Quantum Queen race. It was waaay too difficult, now it should be doable.
And we added a copy/paste function to the part properties. So now you can copy the settings from suspension from one to another, or copy the stepper motor configuration.
Added a temporary minimap to the Pulo Pangripta.
Improved multiplayer lags at the beginning of races.
That should be it for those last two small updates. Keep driving fast and safe!
Simon & Marc
we've prepared a small patch for the bugs we introduced with the latest v0.3.15.9 update.
So here is a small and sweet patch for v0.3.15.10:
Bug fixes
- Removed the camber from offroad suspensions again. We will postpone the whole balancing of suspensions until we have time to look at all suspensions at the same time.
- There was a bug, where it was possible to access some DLC building parts when being in creative mode.
- Not ignoring the steering angle limit is now the default setting. Before it was the other way around.
- Added a new area on the supersonic map where you can try to drive upside down on the ceiling.
- Tried to fix the bug, where the game crashes when quitting (Task failed successfully).
Have a great weekend,
Simon & Marc
It has been only a few days since we announced that we would move to Early Access on Steam as Screw Drivers, and you have already managed to break the main menu by uploading so many amazing creations to the Steam Workshop! This is so awesome, and we can't stop trying all of the new cars, low riders, Formula One cars, and so many crazy vehicles I cannot describe in words.
However, this forced us to fix some issues in the main menu. The sheer number of workshop vehicles caused the game to freeze for 6 seconds when starting.
So, here is the very short changelog of v0.2.14.10:
Bug Fixes
- Fixed, that the game freezes for a couple of seconds when entering the main menu.
- Fixed car calculation algorithm, which was faulty when placing the corner gears in some specific constellations.
Keep on being amazed while we work full throttle on the new version, which will be available in early access soon!
Please keep the feedback coming!
